《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Nineteen

After about forty minutes later, I pulled up to Lee's place, hopping out of the taxi and heading up the steps of the building. I stood outside his front door willing myself to finally raise my hand and knock on the door, but I hesitated. Would he really be happy to see me, or had he just asked me to come to be nice? That little voice whispered in the back of my mind.

You can do this, Simone, I told myself, bringing my hand up against the door. Within six seconds, the door was opening and there Lee stood, staring back at me with a small smile on his lips. His black hair laid messily across his forehead. He was wearing a plain white t-shirt and a pair of gray joggers. Summer was situated against his chest, her dark brown eyes staring back at me curiously.

I waved. "Uh, hey, I hope it's fine that I decided to come. I know it's last minute and all," I trailed off when he shook his head, opening the door wider for me so that I could step in.

"I'm glad you decided to come." He said, moving away from the door, "Come on in and make yourself comfortable. I'll take your jacket for you," He said, taking my jacket from me and hanging it up on the rack beside the door, closing the door behind us. "You can sit your things over there on that shelf," He pointed to an empty shelf, "I ordered some pizza, it got here about ten minutes before you did, so it should still be hot." He began saying, "Oh, and I made some cookies too if you want some." He added, as I stood there in the center of his living room, watching him try to do a million things at once.

I stopped him. "Hey, I can hold Summer for a second so you can finish getting everything ready." I offered. He gave me a look of appreciation as he handed Summer over to me.

"Thanks," He replied, "I'm usually not all over the place. I guess i'm just nervous." He grinned, causing my heart to skip a beat. "I'm going to go and get some plates and get the cookies out of the oven. I also have Summer's favorite movie in the DVD player. So when I get back, i'll play it."

I sat down against the tan couch, holding summer against me as I raised an eyebrow at him. "Summer's favorite DVD or Lee's?" I asked knowingly..

He smiled. "Lee's." He confirmed. "I hope you like dumb dumb and dumber. I always try to play something to remind Summer of her father whenever she's stuck with me."

I laughed. "You're too much." I couldn't help but say as he walked out of sight and headed into the kitchen. I looked down at Summer. She had her little fists balled up against her chest, light patches of brown curls covered her head and those dark brown eyes stared back at me. She was basically a really pretty baby doll that didn't seem real. "You're such a cutie pie." I whispered, and her little lips moved into what seemed like a tiny smirk. I laughed, "and you know it," I said, "of course you do." I shook my head, poking her little nose, watching as she scrunched it up as if trying to get me to stop. I held my hand up in surrender. "Okay, I'll leave the little princess alone." I amended.

"She likes you." Lee commented as he walked back into the living room, a box of pizza in one hand and a plate of cookies sitting right on top of the box. He sat the box down on the small table before us and reached for Summer, taking her from my hands. "Let me put her in her crib for a little bit so we can eat real quick." He said walking over to the crib that was beside the couch and laying her down, before moving back to the couch and handing me a plate. I put two slices on my plate and a cookie and Lee did the same.

He grabbed the remote control, pressing play. I took a bite of my cheese pizza. "Have you always had that crib, or did you go out and buy it for Summer today?"

Lee sat the remote down on the table and leaned back against the couch with his food. "No, i've had it for a while now. Since I usually keep Summer a lot, I figured it would be smart to just go out and buy a crib that I can take around with me in case I ever have to watch her again. As you can see, I think i've made a good investment."

"And Thomas's wife said you didn't like kids." I teased.

Lee grabbed another slice of pizza. "I like kids, babies just make me a little nervous," he admitted, "They're so..fragile." he said, glancing at me momentarily, "But i'm sure that when I have my own kids, i'll feel differently about the whole baby stage," He finished before adding, "Probably."

I coughed a little. "You want kids?" I asked surprised.

He nodded. "Yeah, you don't?" He questioned seriously, still not taking his eyes from me.

"Oh, no, I do want kids," I replied, feeling my cheeks heat up, "I mean, I want them when I finally meet the man that i'm supposed to be married to that is." I quickly rushed out, making sure to clear up the fact that Lee wouldn't be that man.

Lee watched me for a few seconds before finishing his pizza and setting his empty plate down onto the table. He kept his gaze locked with the television before him as he spoke quietly. "That's good then, I'm sure your kids will be cute."

I felt the need to say yours too, but decided against it and finished my food before setting my plate next to his. After a couple of minutes of sitting in silence watching the movie, I felt my legs begin to grow stiff. I guess Lee picked up on it because he turned to me.

"You can stretch your feet out on the couch," he said, "I don't mind."

I glanced at him. The couch wasn't small, but it also wasn't that big. If I did stretch my feet out I would most likely be kicking him. I shook my head. "No, it's fine. I don't want to take up too much of the couch."

Lee gave me a look. "I don't mind, really."

I gave up and decided to curl my feet up on the couch, although, I still felt as if I was taking over more room then I should. A moment later I felt Lee's warm hands against my ankles as he softly tugged at my legs.

"Hey, what?" I started, when he pulled my legs so that they were laying across his legs.

He noticed the apprehension on my face. "I know what you're going to say, but don't you feel less bunched up over there now."

I wanted to argue, but I didn't. "You're right."

"I know." He smiled, "I like this though. It feels nice."

"Do you say that to all the women you spend time around?" I said before I could stop myself.

He grinned. "No, only the one I proposed to." He said, shutting me up, and I couldn't help the giddy feeling that went through my body at his words. "Now relax." He ordered, and I did as I turned my attention back to the tv, watching the colors flick across the screen.

"You're enjoying this." I said quietly after a moment.

Lee took no time in replying as his warm hands rested against my bare ankles. "I am." He replied, "plus you're warm." He added.

I bit the side of my lip. "Lee..what are we doing exactly." I questioned.

"Well, we're watching a movie."

I rolled my eyes. "I know that, but I'm talking about this." I motioned to us, "I know we agreed on just hanging out because that's what I wanted, but this just feels a little too..intimate."

"I won't take back what I said when we where in the women's bathroom of your job. Not being together may be what you want," he said softly, "but just because I agreed with it, it still doesn't mean that that's what I want." He said turning his attention to me. "Can't we just give us a try? No engagement, nothing crazy, just two people getting to know one another on a deeper level and seeing where it goes after that. What's stopping you? Do you not feel the least bit attracted to me?" He questioned.

I opened my mouth and closed it before opening it again. "I'm scared." I said, the words sounding foreign on my lips.

He watched me as if trying to figure something out. "It's because I'm famous, isn't it." He stated, not really having to ask.

I closed my eyes briefly and nodded. "I just feel like once you have to go back on tour and get back to your life you're just gonna brush me off like I was nothing, and I don't want to be hurt," I replied, "heck, I don't even know you, and I already feel too emotionally involved with you!" I exclaimed frustratedly.

I pushed myself up from the couch, slipping my shoes on and grabbing my jacket. This was crazy. I kept telling myself as I stayed in the process of trying to get myself together so that I could leave. As I reached the door knob, Lee's hand grasped my arm softly, turning me back to him.

"Look, you can be honest with me without fearing what I'll think. I'm just as emotionally involved as you. I can't explain it, but I know that you're who I want. Call me crazy, but when you know, you know." He told me. I could feel my heart beating inside my chest almost as if it was ready to jump out. This was crazy, my mind shouted again, you guys don't even know each other enough to even have feelings for one another, much less know that you're soulmates! Lee raised his other hand to my cheek, rubbing his thumb softly against my skin. "I know you're trying to figure everything out in that head of yours. I can see the confusion in your eyes." He said, removing his hand from my face and leaving me cold. "Let me go and get Summer and I'll drive you home, okay?"

I swallowed hardly, not knowing what else to say. Too scared that if I opened my mouth, I might not be able to take back the words that came out - whether or not it was a good or bad thing, I didn't know. I looked back into his eyes, my heart louder than my mind at the moment. "Okay."
