《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Sixteen

🤦🏽♀️🤣
I threw off the second shirt I had put on that night, groaning loudly as I rummaged through my dressers, trying to find something, anything, that would make me look like I had at least tried to look decent for tonight. I don't know why in the world I was freaking out. It most definitely wasn't a date, or at least that's what I had been trying to tell myself for the past week.
"Oh my goodness," I sighed, shutting my dresser drawers and walking over to my closet, and swinging the door open. I had to have something in here worth wearing. As I continued to look, my eyes stopped on a sheer, pink long sleeve shirt that had tiny hints of glitter splattered all over. It was cute, and wouldn't draw too much attention to me, but it would definitely bring out the color of my dark hair. I grabbed the shirt and threw it on before walking over to my mirror and expecting myself.
My hair lay against my shoulders, the black locks contrasting against the pale pink of the shirt. I wore a pair of dark blue jeans, and slipped on some brown sandals. When I was finished taking in my reflection, I clapped my hands together, pleased with myself. Victoria would be proud, I thought for the first time in forever, as I applied a little bit of lip gloss, and grabbed my purse.
I glanced down at my phone to see that it was a quarter 'til seven. Lee had offered to pick me up from my apartment, and I had agreed.
I walked out of my room and sat down on my couch as I waited for him to arrive. I knew he wouldn't be much longer since he had texted me thirty minutes earlier, saying that he was on his way.
Less than ten minutes later, there was a knock at my door.
"Hey," Lee answered as soon as I opened the door. He was wearing a pair of jeans with a black jacket, his red baseball cap over his head. "You look beautiful."
If I wasn't holding onto the door with a death grip, I probably would've fallen out there. "Thank you. You don't look bad yourself." I replied, opening the door wider for him to come in. "Do you want to sit down for a second?" I offered.
The corner of his lip quirked upwards. "Tempting, but I'll have to take a rain check." His eyes fell on me, making me feel slightly insecure, as if he was trying to read me before he smiled. "Come on, I have somewhere special I want to take you." He held out his hand expectantly and I just stared down at it.
He chuckled. "I won't bite."
I reluctantly placed my hand in his and followed him out the door, locking it behind me.
"So where are we going?" I asked a little nervously as he settled into the car and started it. He held up a finger as to tell me, not yet.
"Like I said, it's a surprise." He turned on the radio and began driving out of the parking lot. "Just sit back and enjoy the ride."
***
About twenty minutes later we pulled up to a large stadium builing. The lights were off, and there were no other cars in the large parking lot but us.
"Um, what are we doing here?" I asked a little worriedly, watching as he turned off the car and chuckled.
"We're going in the stadium."

I pointed out the window. "I see that, but no one's here. It's closed." I replied, causing him to laugh again. He shook his head and got out of the car before coming around and opening my door.
"Well, come on then." He urged.
We walked up the stairs of the stadium, before stopping at the door. I gave him a look and he only smiled, pulling out a pair of keys before sticking it into the door and turning the knob.
I frowned. "How in the world did you even get those?"
He smiled. "I'm famous, remember, people will pretty much let me do anything." He said, leading the way inside. Once we reached the front he prompted me to take a seat as he climed up on the stage.
I couldn't help but laugh, "Seriously, what are we doing here, Lee? Are you going to play me a song?" I picked, knowing that he was really good on the drums.
Lee shook his head, a calm look passing over his face as he picked up an object from the back of the stage, before bringing it into the light. It was a mic. He tapped it twice before walking to stand on the edge of the stage so that he was directly in front of me. "No, I'm not going to play you a song, I'm going to sing you one." He replied. My heart began beating hardly within my chest and I couldn't help but feel giddy, but also embarrassed. "Don't worry, it's not about you, or anything crazy. It's just a song that my band mate has been working on for awhile and it's been stuck in my head, and I figured I'd let you hear it. You won't tell anyone will you?"
I shook my head, excitement bubbling within me. "I wouldn't tell a soul." I confirmed, before adding, "But I didn't know you could sing." I said honestly.
He smiled. "A lot of people don't. I prefer to stick with the drums, I'm better at it." He laughed, "So don't judge me too hard okay?"
"Okay." I replied, not sure what to expect. I was a little nervous, but also filled with anticipation. I had never had a man sing for me before, much less a famous rockstar.
I sat a little straighter in my chair as he began to hum a little before the words finally left his mouth. I sat there watching as he sung to me, a slight smile hovering on his lips as he stared down at my surprised face. If there was one thing about Lee that I hadn't known already, it was that this man was full of surprises.
He wasn't quiet, well, okay, he was still quiet, but he was much more outspoken than I had originally thought he was. He was funny, entertaining, and could actually hold a conversation that didn't revolve around higher intellectual things that everyone thought he would be more interested in. Beneath the whole quiet, intelligent, rockstar thing he had going on - He was just him - Lee.
As he lowered the mic, he winked an eye in my direction. "Did I blow your mind?" He asked, grinning, obviously already knowing the answer.
I felt my heart do that stupid flip again and I wanted to tell it to sit down in there, but instead I opened my mouth. "I could've probably did better." I teased, watching as a look of surprise graced his features.
"You sing?" He asked curiously.

I shrugged. "That, among many other things you still don't know about me."
Lee sat the mic back on the stand, walking over to the edge of the stage and sitting down before me, his legs dangling off the side. "Like what?"
"Everything." I chuckled. "You know absolutely nothing about me, and I know pretty much nothing about you as well."
He smiled. "You know who I am. The internet tells all."
I shook my head at his comment. "Not it doesn't. You're way different than the man that media tries to make you seem like. You're a lot more warm in person. On the internet, reporters make you seem like you're cold and detached from the rest of your band mates and fans. They say that they've never seen you actually smile or even greet a fan after a show."
He raised a brow, "Really?" He said, "Would you think of me differently if it was true, you know, about everything people say I am and why I don't interact with my fans like the rest of the band does?"
I started to say something when it died in my throat. Lee was staring at me with a serious look on his face as if he was waiting for the correct response and I wasn't sure that I had one. I swallowed hardly. "At first I probably would've thought differently, but now that I'm sorta getting to know you, I figure that you have a good reason on why you distance yourself from the public eye a lot of times." I replied, "but why do you do it? Your fans love you."
He sighed. "They don't love me. They love the idea of me. I appreciate every single one of them, don't get me wrong," he said slowly, his eyes connecting with mine, "It's just that I don't want to give so much of myself to people that can't give me anything back in return. I feel like I'm a vessel that's constantly being poured out of, but no one's ever pouring back into me, if you get what I mean. It's nice sometimes to have people think that you're amazing, but when they don't really know the real you, and only the stage you, then they get disappointed..and I," He took a moment, sighing before he continued, "I hate trying to live up to other people's expectations. I'm just me. Nothing more. Nothing less. The reporters, my fans, everyone, wants me to be something I'm not. I don't care much for all the publicity. Never have, never will."
"You're so much different than how I thought you would be." I said simply.
"Is that a good or bad thing?"
"I'm still deciding, but I'm leaning more towards good." I said finally, "So tell me a little about yourself."
"What do you want to know that you don't already know?"
"What is your family like? Do you have any brothers or sisters?"
"I'm sure you can find that information online." He said easily.
I rolled my eyes, leaning forward in my chair a bit. "Yeah, but I want to hear it from you."
Lee actually scratched the side of his head. Obviously not expecting me to actually want to talk about him and his life. "Well, my parents are a bit..eccentric to say the least, but they're very lovable people. They've both lived in China for pretty much all of their lives, they were born and raised there and never sought our anything different. They're able to come out and see me at least a few times a year; although, I usually fly out there and stay awhile when we aren't touring." He continued, "and as for siblings, I'm the only child. After my parents had me, they really didn't see the need to have another child." He said, "Plus, my mother vowed to never go through the pain of birthing another child ever again." He laughed, "I guess one time was traumatizing enough. I have a cousin named, Shi, though. She's about two years older than me, and pretty much the closest thing I have to a sister. What about you? What are your parents like? Do you have any siblings?
I tapped my fingers against the arm rest of the chair I was currently sitting in, pondering over my thoughts before I spoke. "My parents live a state over, so literally less than three hours away. They were paranoid for the longest when I moved out this way for a job after I finished college, which was about a year now, they're still very much paranoid, but they make sure to give me my space. Although, nine times out of ten, they will unexpectedly pop up to check on me. My mom's a nurse and my dad's a real estate agent. They are probably the two most odd people you'll ever meet, but they're a lot of fun to be around." I told him, "I have an older brother. His name is Nathaniel, but he hates it, so we just call him Nate for short. He lives in New Jersey now for a job he recently got. We still talk over the phone every now and then, but he's usually always working."
"How old is he?" Lee questioned.
"He's twenty eight." I replied, "and I'm only twenty three."
Lee grinned. "So you're what, a year younger than me?" He asked, "I'm twenty four."
I nodded. "Yeah, I knew that already."
He laughed. "The internet?"
"Yep." I nodded laughing along with him. "I really hope you don't think I'm a creep, searching you online and all. It's just that before all of this happened, I was a crazed fan, still am, it just feels weird now because you ah-you know."
"Bought you an engagement ring?" He finished for me.
I sighed. "Yeah, that." I patted the side of my leg. "About that ring."
He held a hand up. "We already talked about this. I would feel a lot better if you just kept it. It doesn't have to mean anything."
I held my hands up in surrender. "You're right. You're right." I agreed, "I'm gonna stop freaking out on you right now."
Lee chuckled. "You're not freaking out on me." He assured me, silence settling between us once again. Lee's dark eyes continued to watch me intently as his lips formed into a line. "Do you want to know something?" He said after awhile, snapping me out of my trance.
"What?" I asked, expecting him to tell me more about his life and his family, but he didn't. He shrugged and smiled.
"I'm having fun."
I eyed him. "Really?"
"Yes, it's nice to just relax and enjoy another persons company." He replied, "We should hang out more often."
My hands grew sweaty. "Uh, yeah. If I get another day off of work and have some free time I'll let you know."
Lee grinned. "Promise?"
I rolled my eyes, even though my heart was thundering inside of my chest like crazy. "Promise." I looked at my phone. "Well, it's only seven thirty, do you have anything else planned for our hangout tonight?" I asked wanting to change the subject.
A twinkle passed over Lee's eyes as he hopped down from the stage and walked over to me. "Yeah, I thought we could grab something to eat and you could probably show me around town. What do you say?"
I stood up. "That sounds good."
He automatically slipped his large hand into mine before I could even comprehend what was happening, and pulled me along side him. "Well, let's hurry, the night isn't getting any younger." He said, his warm hand covering mine, the contact sending my heart and mind into total overdrive as we walked out into the cool night air.
Yeah, I thought, just being friends wasn't going to last long at all. Especially not with the way that this man made me feel just by holding my hand.
I was a goner.
