《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Twelve

One hour passed by, then two, then four and Lee still hadn't called back. I knew it was a lot to expect from him since we hardly knew each other, but since he had said he would call back, I couldn't help but lay in bed awake, waiting for my phone to light up.

I watched as the clock turned twelve and decided that it was time to go to sleep. He had most likely forgotten. I couldn't really blame him though, he didn't owe me anything.

I turned off my lamp and curled up beneath the covers, letting sleep overtake me.

Two hours later my phone began to light up, buzzing against my nightstand. I tiredly slapped around until I had grabbed my phone, bringing it to my face.

"Hello?" I said tiredly, wiping my eyes with the back of my hands. Who in their right mind could be calling this early?

A throat cleared, before that familiar voice came through the receiver. "Hey, I know it's late, but I said I would call."

I reached for my lamp, turning the light on. "Oh, it's fine. I was up working on something." I lied, happy that he had called me back.

Lee chuckled softly. "Seriously, you're up at two in the morning working on something?" He asked, "I find that hard to believe."

"Okay, you got me, I was dead asleep." I yawned.

"I figured as much. I'll let you get back to bed then. Night."

I rubbed my eyes again, tiredness overcoming me. "Night." I replied tiredly, the sound of the call disconnecting as my head hit the soft pillow behind me.

When I woke up that morning, I grabbed my phone to turn off my alarm clock. As I tapped on the black screen, a message popped up from a number that wasn't saved in my phone.

I reached for the blank piece of paper on my nightstand and then looked back at the message. It was from Lee.

I quickly opened the message, hesitating. This wasn't a date, he just wanted me to show him somewhere decent to eat, I told myself.

My fingers hovered over the keyboard of my phone as I began to type.

I typed, before erasing it and writing.

I sent, setting my phone back down on the night stand and pushing myself up from my bed. Not even a second later my phone buzzed. I picked it up and read the message that popped onto my screen.

I sat my phone back on my nightstand, before slipping out of bed and walking over to my floor length mirror. I noted my slightly frizzy hair sticking up in every direction, and the slight bags under my eyes, not hidingthe sleep that had settled in the corners of my eyes. I ran a hand over my face, letting out a groan as I re-evaluated my reflection.

What in the world was I doing? I wanted to shake the girl on the other side of the mirror. Since when did I listen to Victoria? Had I lost my ever lasting mind? Why did I even call Lee in the first place and why had I accepted to eat lunch with him? I wanted to scream as the string of endless questions raced through my mind. A second went by before that annoying voice in the back of my head made its appearance.

It's because he's hot. He's a hot rockstar and when will this sort of thing ever happen again? The voice chided. I groaned again, this time even louder as my alarm clock cut through my thoughts, reminding me that it was now eleven forty.

I glanced down at my pajamas and back to my unkept hair. I had less than two hours to get ready before meeting, Lee and I had absolutely no idea what I was going to wear.

This is why I don't go on dates. It's not a date, remember. The voice reminded.

"Oh, shut up." I said to myself.

I had to get ready, and standing around arguing with myself wasn't going to solve anything.

I headed towards my dresser and pulled out a floral print maxi dress, looking it up and down before shoving it back into the bottom of my dresser. I didn't need to look cute, this wasn't a date, I kept reminding myself as I settled on a pair of blue jeans and a light pink blouse.

After struggling on my hair for ten minutes, I decided to just put it up in a bun. When the clocked turned twelve, I grabbed my purse and headed out of the door.
