yeah, why?
I have something cool to show you
I wondered what it might be. I was interrupted from my texts when Sarah tapped me on the shoulder.
For some reason, I turned my phone off quickly, as if I had to hide Clay and I's conversation. I'm not sure why it felt that way.
"Let's go!" She exclaimed excitedly. I smiled slightly and nodded, following her out to a cafe she said she liked.
We went inside, and she ordered some kind of iced latte. I just got some water, and we sat down awkwardly across from her at a small table.
"So, George. Where are you from?" She asked.
"Uh, London. I moved here when I was ten," I replied, sipping my iced water.
"Oh, cool! Did you like London better?"
I shrugged. "It was a while ago, but I like the weather here better. Back home, it was raining half the time."
She nodded. "So, have you had a girlfriend before?"
I choked on my water. Jeez, she was straightforward. I hesitated to answer, seeing the direction the conversation was headed.
I told myself I shouldn't lead her on, it would just be cruel. So I took a deep breath.
"Um, actually, I just wanted to say. I'd like to get to know you more, but not in a....romantic way? I'm sorry if I made you think otherwise, I just wanted to be polite.."
She seemed a little disappointed, but her smile came right back. "That's okay! To be honest, I'm actually in an exchange program. I'm leaving in two weeks for France, and I just wanted to take a shot at asking you out," she laughed a little. "Plus, my grandma is constantly nagging me to at least try, and I think she'd be happy knowing I made an effort."

I laughed, relieved. "Oh, thank god. I really didn't want to break your heart or anything..."
She waved her hand. "It's all good. Don't think that you owe me anything, just because my grandma helps you out."
We talked for about another hour, and I was surprised that she was super talkative and optimistic, even after I turned her down. We chatted about France, her program, the bakery, all sorts of random stuff. By the end of it, I felt light, like a weight was lifted off my chest.
"Thanks for inviting me," I said, as we walked back to the bakery. "That was great."
"You're real nice, George," she said. "It's a shame your parents, you know..."
She turned suddenly. "Oh my gosh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean t-"
I hushed her. "It's fine, I don't mind. It's been a couple years since then, I'm desensitized."
She laughed shyly. "I see, sorry again. I just wanted to say the worse things always seem to come to the best people."
I froze as I saw Clay standing in the bakery, chatting with Louise. Louise saw me and waved, and Clay saw me standing with Sarah.
Oh god, this was awkward.

8 98Humanity Extinguished
I had the same nightmare again. The loss of my first life continues to haunt me, but now it aches like an old wound. A more grievous injury to my psyche was the losses yet to come and the inevitable hellscape I would return to again and again. Reincarnation is my curse. The lives themselves weren't all that bad. Losing people you cared about hurt and all, but even that pain was preferable to experiencing the nothingness between lives for months at a time. It was enough to drive anyone mad. Now I have to focus on breaking this horrible cycle. Thankfully I have all the time in the world. Trace is an average man driven by extraordinary circumstances in an indifferent and cruel world. His reincarnations give him a few key advantages but also take a heavy toll on him. He lives in a world where magic is uncommon and underpowered compared to the limitless physical adaptations you can acquire by getting your hands a little bloody. This story is one of hardship and terrible lows, but also monumental achievements and grand heights. The main character has flaws. While some of these flaws will fade with time, others will worsen. Thank you for taking the time to read my synopsis. I plan to release 2-3 chapters a week. 8 140Intercessor
"In my defense, I hadn't actually been trying to get hit by a truck." Artemis wakes up alone in a giant futuristic facility with no hint of where she is, how she got here, or what this means. Yet within two weeks, she is shot at with all the guns, a voice is beginning to speak in her head, and she is tormented by a seemingly sentient and possibly trollish space Roomba. Her only hope is Scarlet, another girl who is a complete stranger and almost shot her in the head. Oh, and she has fox ears and a tail. That is possibly worth mentioning. Artemis is not a nerd. She has never heard of the isekai genre, she can't fight worth a damn, and the blue-collar skills she learned at her community college are absolutely useless in a universe where technology is often indistinguishable from magic. She only has one thing going for her: A mysterious ability to interface with highly advanced technology left behind by the Antecessors, the long lost precursor civilization with technology that no one has been able to adequately replicate. Finding herself in a universe where civilizations are locked in an interstellar Cold War, where societies are so stratified that the aristocracy commands fleets of starships while slaves wash clothes with their hands, Artemis decides to run away from it all. She has a ship. She'll find a crew. She'll find a way to make a living at the fringes of civilization, learn how to cope with danger, and survive the affections of a universe where everyone is a cute girl with animal ears and tails. Welcome to Intercessor. AKA Kemonomimi Yuri Space Fantasy. Commissioned by Shaderic. Please leave your sense of shame at the door.
