"Baicheng, have you decided your move?" Fei Qianchi asked. Sitting under the sky, covered by the pavilion, a game of Go was situated. Fei Qianchi could feel the slight breeze pushing past them.
Baicheng smiled, his red eyes glinting as he finally picked up a black stone and placed it on the board. "You're getting better at this, it won't take long until you surpass me." He shook his head lightly.
Fei Qianchi chuckled as he heard this. "It's because you've been teaching me. After being beaten by you for so long, it's only a wonder if I didn't pick up something from you." Then his hand moved to place a white stone onto the board without a second to spare.
Baicheng looked at the board, his mind in deep thoughts. He knitted his brows, his attention on the board. "You're learning even faster than what I had thought. If I knew you would be putting me in such situations, I would've kept some secrets to myself." He chuckled as he finally put down the black stone after a while of debating.
Hearing this, Fei Qianchi merely rolled his eyes. "As if you would do that. You were the one who taught me all your tricks." Go was never his strength. Zhu Longwang had always defeated him easily. Baicheng was also good, but the man carefully taught him. Now, Fei Qianchi could rival him, sometimes even winning in a game.
Fei Qianchi looked at Baicheng. Today, the man was in one of his more serious moods. It was as if the man had two personalities. One would be more carefree and uncaring, the other more serious. Fei Qianchi didn't mind, nor did he probe. He understood that some things were better left unsaid and so he didn't bring this up.
As Baicheng furrowed his brows slightly, the man clenched a black stone in his hand, thinking about were to put it.
Fei Qianchi smiled at this. As he looked at Baicheng, he noticed that the man's eyes were suddenly flickering. They switched from a red to a blue shade, and seeing this, he was also a bit startled. Fei Qianchi froze for a second. It didn't take long for the man's eyes to finally return to a solid red but Fei Qianchi was still a bit shocked.
"Qianchi?" Baicheng furrowed his brows as he looked at Fei Qianchi.
Fei Qianchi immediately stopped thinking about it. "Oh, sorry, I blanked out for a moment." He stared down at the board, picking a white stone in his hand. He held the stone for a moment, as if thinking about where to place it.
"Hey, are you alright?" Baicheng's hand reached forward upon Fei Qianchi's head, brushing away the hair that fell over. His brows were furrowed.
Fei Qianchi leaned into Baicheng's hand. He didn't know why. The longer he spent with Baicheng, it was as if a part of him was being healed. There was this part of him that now ached whenever he was gone from Baicheng for too long. It sometimes caused him to be in a bad mood. Because of this, Fei Qianchi stuck to Baicheng's side almost all the time now.
Fei Qianchi could feel himself calming, the slight ache in his head disappearing as Baicheng placed his hand over his head. "I'm fine, I just haven't been feeling well. With you here, I feel much better." Fei Qianchi mustered a smile as he looked at Baicheng.
With this, Baicheng's lips slowly lifted. "Let's go into your room. I'll pass you some energy and see what's wrong with you. Lately, you've been pale."

Fei Qianchi didn't fight as Baicheng said this. He grasped out, holding onto Baicheng's hand. The man simply let Fei Qianchi hold him as they walked back to Fei Qianchi's bedroom chamber.
Fei Qianchi was feeling better. This morning, Fei Qianchi had visited Zhu Longwang for a short while. After that, he had been feeling groggy and tired, but as soon as Baicheng arrived, he began to feel better.
As Fei Qianchi sat on the bed, Baicheng was behind him. With two palms placed upon Fei Qianchi's back, he could feel the energy being transferred into his body. It was comforting, so comforting that it made it hard to keep his eyes open.
Fei Qianchi tried to keep himself awake, but his eyes slowly dropped and closed.
"Wake up, Qianchi!"
Chen Daming's voice was loud, rushed as if something was wrong.
Fei Qianchi could barely hear his voice, but even as he heard it, it was as if he couldn't understand it.
"Hurry... stop... before... seal... up..."
Then, Chen Daming's voice was no longer heard.
"Qianchi."
A new voice called for him. This voice was much smoother, almost enchanting to listen to.
"Qianchi, listen to me... be careful of Zhu Longwang. No matter what, do not believe him."
Fei Qianchi didn't know why but the voice pulled at his heart. Wait... he was supposed to remember something. What was it? His mind felt blank. Wasn't there something that he should remember?
There was a loud pulse in his heart. Something was crawling in, spreading across his whole body. Fei Qianchi felt a burst of energy explode in him, a strong force that sent shivers down his body.
"Qianchi... careful!"
Fei Qianchi was lost in his state of unconsciousness. All around him, a raging fire spread.
As his blue eyes snapped open, Fei Qianchi's mood was noticeably colder. The man looked around, a bit confused.
"Baicheng?" His voice was warmer. Fei Qianchi turned to the man behind him.
"Qianchi, are you alright?" Baicheng asked. The man's eyes held visible worry in them.
Fei Qianchi's eyes flickered, blinking. Something felt odd... it was as if something was missing from his heart. There was an empty feeling that existed, as if something had been forcefully taken away from him.
"I... did something happen?" Fei Qianchi asked after a short second. He didn't know. His brows furrowed as he tried to find out what was wrong.
"I don't know. I was passing some energy into you and then your core suddenly became chaotic. It was like something exploded." Baicheng slowly explained.
Hearing this, Fei Qianchi suddenly smiled. This smile was more warm than before, his eyes were no longer so clouded.
Baicheng now filled a big part of his heart. It was normal for his mood to fluctuate if Baicheng was not by him.
Fei Qianchi reached for Baicheng's hand, "I'm alright. I... I don't remember what happened exactly. I just remember your voice before I woke up."
Baicheng frowned, narrowing his eyes. "Are you sure you're alright? If not, let me go get Longwang."
Just as he stood up, Fei Qianchi stopped him, grasping onto his wrist. "No, it's fine, I'm alright." Fei Qianchi felt weird. There was a voice that continued to whisper, telling him to not trust Zhu Longwang. His head ached.
Baicheng bit his lips, sitting on the bed next to Fei Qianchi. He pushed the man down, making him lay down on the bed.
Fei Qianchi let Baicheng do as he wanted. The man then put a hand onto his head, gently massaging his temple. Fei Qianchi closed his eyes. He could feel his heartbeat running faster.

"Baicheng, what do you think about us?" Fei Qianchi asked. He honestly didn't know why he suddenly asked this. There was this sudden nagging voice in his head, telling him to pour all his emotions onto Baicheng.
The man's fingers stopped for a moment before a chuckle escaped his mouth, "Why the sudden question?"
Fei Qianchi didn't know. He didn't even know. Something felt out of place. It was like something had been wiped away from his memories. Fei Qianchi couldn't remember it, something just felt wrong.
"I want to know how you feel towards me." Fei Qianchi spoke up after a moment. Was this his feelings? Fei Qianchi felt a bit strange. This emotion felt like it was engulfing him. It felt as if it was possessing him.
"You love him, Baicheng is the man that you love most."
There it was! That voice rung in his head again. It was a smooth and intoxicating voice, compelling. Fei Qianchi didn't know why he let his guard down at once.
"Listen to me, beware of Zhu Longwang, beware of everyone."
This voice made Fei Qianchi relax at once. As if a spell had been placed upon him, Fei Qianchi trusted this voice.
"My feelings? I love you too, just like how you love me." Baicheng replied.
His voice snapped Fei Qianchi from his train of thoughts. Hearing this, a string of energy within him pulsed. Voice? Wasn't there something that he was forgetting? Fei Qianchi felt lost...
"I'm waiting for the day that we stand across from one another and look into each other's eyes. Everything will come out then."
Listening to these words, Fei Qianchi felt himself blank out. His heart pulsed, even as he remained confused. Oh... right, Baicheng was his lover...
"Me too," A smile emerged on his face, even with his eyes closed. Fei Qianchi let down his guard at once.
Baicheng was his lover. This was the man that he loved most, the man who saved and took care of him. It was only normal for him to say this. Right?
Something was missing. But soon, Fei Qianchi could no longer remember.
"I love you," Fei Qianchi whispered.
"I know." Baicheng echoed.
Fei Qianchi finally relaxed.
"It's alright, I will help you. I will lead you from here on."
-
When Fei Qianchi opened his eyes, he saw Zhu Longwang sitting on a chair, looking through a book.
His guard suddenly went up. That voice had told him to be wary of Zhu Longwang.
"Where is Baicheng?" Fei Qianchi asked as he furrowed his brows, blue eyes holding a tint of worry. His long white hair fell over his shoulders, looking around.
Zhu Longwang furrowed his brows, looking at Fei Qianchi. "What happened? You've never been like this. Even without Baicheng by you, you still carried on your everyday life." He put the book down.
Hearing this, Fei Qianchi furrowed his brows. Really? But from his memories, he recalled being by Baicheng almost everyday. He was sure of this. Was Zhu Longwang trying to fool him?
"He's lying."
Hearing this voice again, Fei Qianchi stared a bit longer at Zhu Longwang.
"Really?" Fei Qianchi replied, his eyes growing narrow.
Zhu Longwang tilted his head, his cold expression marred with worry. "Qianchi, are you alright? Shouldn't you know this better than anyone else?"
Fei Qianchi was sure that his memories were correct. If so, why was Zhu Longwang talking differently? But he didn't bring this matter up anymore, not knowing what to believe.
"Did he go somewhere?" Fei Qianchi asked again. He leaned against the wooden frame of his bed, folding his hands over his blanket. His expression seemed a bit colder.
"He went to go grab some clothes. He said that he would stay and watch over you." After this, Zhu Longwang stopped. "You've been acting weird lately, Qianchi."
Hearing this, Fei Qianchi didn't respond. Was he acting weird? It certainly didn't feel like so. This felt normal. Wasn't this how he normally acted?
"I... I've just been feeling under the weather." Fei Qianchi didn't talk about what he was personally going through.
Fei Qianchi looked up at Zhu Longwang. The man opened his mouth, as if he was going to say something but then he closed his mouth again. The man seemed to have something to say but he didn't end up saying anything.
"Why did you come?" Fei Qianchi asked after a moment. For some reason, his head was beginning to hurt again. He wanted Baicheng to come back sooner. He didn't know why but something felt uncomfortable with Zhu Longwang being here.
"Baicheng told me to come watch you while he was gone. He didn't say much about your situation so I came first." Zhu Longwang explained. He didn't say much, he didn't even look up as he reopened his book and continued to read.
Fei Qianchi didn't know why but he felt like the man was ignoring him. He didn't say anything more and what was left was an awkward silence that lingered.
"Qianchi, are you awake already?" Walking in, Baicheng had a light smile on his face, his red eyes filled with a light.
Seeing this, Fei Qianchi's mood lifted. He didn't know why. Now that Baicheng was here, his mood obviously got better.
"You're back!" Fei Qianchi's face lit up. He was about to sit up but Baicheng sent him a look, raising his brows.
"Lay down, you gave me a fright when you fainted." Baicheng rushed forward and pushed him back onto the bed.
Fei Qianchi obediently laid on the bed.
Baicheng turned to Zhu Longwang, "Thank you for coming here. I'm sure that you had your own matters to take of too so I appreciate the fact that you came."
There was a troublesome light in the way his eyes shone. But Baicheng's smile was bright, red eyes holding no malice within them.
Fei Qianchi watched the man, his headache beginning to subside. He didn't feel any more pain and it made his mood lighter. But still, his brows were a bit furrowed. Something felt as if it was missing but he had no recollection of what it could possibly be.
"No, it is something that I should do. After all, I am his good friend." Saying this, there was a reluctant light in Zhu Longwang's eyes.
"I heard that Qianchi would be going to Buwang Prefecture with you. It seems like you will be setting out soon then." Baicheng brought up as he sat down on the bed, pulling the blanket over Fei Qianchi. His eyes held no traces of any emotions, the smile on his face masked up everything.
Hearing this, Fei Qianchi furrowed his brows even more. Another mission? How come he wasn't told of this?
"Stop furrowing your brows," Baicheng called out as he reached to smooth Fei Qianchi's brows.
Fei Qianchi noticed that the man was more carefree today. His mood was obviously brighter.
"The Sect Leader issued this notice not too long ago. I wasn't able to tell Qianchi yet." Zhu Longwang put the book back into his storage ring, looking up with a cold pair of eyes. His face was as beautiful as before, albeit, a bit of haggardness was seen in his eyes
"It seems like you will have to leave soon," Baicheng said as he turned to Fei Qianchi.
Fei Qianchi nodded his head, "I'll be alright. After all, I'm going to break out of Golden Immortal soon. I haven't gone to Buwang Prefecture before." Fei Qianchi didn't mind. After all, it wasn't like he was seriously ill. Now that he was an immortal, although he wasn't omnipotent, he could still live a long life.
Maybe this was time to give him a breather. After all, although Fei Qianchi loved Baicheng, he didn't want to be by his side too often. Although it felt normal, he also knew that something was strange about him at the moment.
"Sleep for a bit. I'll talk to Longwang first." Baicheng patted Fei Qianchi's chest.
Fei Qianchi looked at Zhu Longwang who didn't have a change in his expression. Finally, he nodded as he closed his eyes.
He could still hear Baicheng and Zhu Longwang's voices overlapping over one another's.
Although he wanted to stay awake, something was closing off his consciousness.
Fei Qianchi opened his eyes. There was a flowing waterfall by his side. The sound of water falling was loud as Fei Qianchi looked around. There was a slight frown on his face but he walked towards the waterfall, to where a cave was located.
"You don't want to go there."
A voice came from behind him. Fei Qianchi turned back, his body taunt.
Before him, there was a beautiful youth. Dressed in a crimson robe, he had delicate brows, beautiful peach blossom eyes, with deep red lips. The man's skin was very pale, even paler with the red cloth up against his skin. His hair was a very light shade of brown, flowing down his back. The man was not too tall, at least not as tall as Fei Qianchi, but he was above the average height. His body was lean and slender, almost delicate. Seeing him, one could tell that he was a devastating beauty. He was not Zhu Longwang's cold beauty, he was a bright and flaming beauty that could enchant thousands.
"Who are you?" Fei Qianchi asked, he stepped back. Just as he expected to reach the water, the scenery changed. Fei Qianchi found himself sitting down on a chair, a cup of tea in his hand.
The man sat opposite of him, his red lips held in a curve. "I thought you would want to see me. After all, you will need to trust me in the future." His eyes were yellow, a glowing yellow that made his appearance even more attracting.
"You... are you the voice in my head?" Fei Qianchi hesitantly asked. He did not drink the cup of tea that was in his hand, placing it back down onto the table.
The man smiled, his long lashes covering his eyes. "I am. Although, this isn't my real form."
Hearing this, the frown on Fei Qianchi's lips deepened.
Was this an illusion?
"It is not an illusion. This is just the spirit world." The man answered, holding a glimmer of light in his eyes.
Fei Qianchi grew more flustered. This wasn't an illusion but the spirit world. Even so, how could he trust this man?
"I won't do anything to you. I just wanted you to see who is talking to you." The man replied to Fei Qianchi's thoughts once more.
"You can hear my thoughts." Fei Qianchi finally concluded. He didn't know if he should panic or not, but he was calm. Nothing would come out of impulsiveness.
"Of course, I reside within you. I live within you."
Fei Qianchi didn't believe these words so easily. Something was strange. He furrowed his brows. "No, something is missing and you aren't telling me."
The man cocked a brow. "Is that what you think? Truth be told, something was tampering with both your emotions and your thoughts. I fixed it. I haven't gotten rid of it just yet, I merely sealed it for the time being."
Fei Qianchi didn't trust the man. But his eyes closed, feeling a stabbing pain in his head. He grabbed his head.
"If you don't trust me, you will continue to harm yourself." The man explained, seeing that Fei Qianchi was in pain.
"What do you mean?" Fei Qianchi asked, opening his eyes with a harsh light in them.
"I don't have much time. This is all I can tell you. I'm sending you back now."
The man stood up, making a hand seal with his hand.
"Wait-"
Fei Qianchi couldn't say anything as a whirlpool formed under his feet.
"Remember, don't trust Zhu Longwang."

8 53NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
