《Walking a fine line✔️》13. A tiny ass cupboard

For the second night in a row, I found myself hiding behind a bush outside. It was about 10:40pm and June and I were on the mission to retrieve my bra off the statue.
"Does this remind you of the Hunger Games?" June asked quietly.
I took my gaze away from the fountain in front of us and glanced at her. "What?"
"The cornucopia scene."
I took in the two boys hiding behind one of the buses on the opposite side of the fountain. "Yes. Yes it does," I replied.
June fidgeted. "I can't believe Griffin sent two randos to do his dirty business."
"Right!" My phone vibrated and I unlocked it to see what Noah had just texted me.
Ahhh. We should be able to handle him I think. Thanks though.
I turned off my phone. "We have a slight problem."
June tapped my shoulder. "Bigger than the one happening right now?"
I looked over the bush and my eyes widened at the sight of a man now walking across the driveway towards the fountain. "Oh no."
"He's the school's cleaner." June whispered. "I guess the school finally had enough of your bra decorating their star fountain."
"I guess so."
We stayed silent as the cleaner climbed up onto the fountain and took down the bra with a shake of his head. He then began walking back to the building. "Stupid children," he muttered as he passed our hiding spot.
We waited a few minutes and then the two guys emerged from behind the bus and followed the cleaner inside.
"The one positive that came out of this is that we don't have the chance to find out what Griffin was planning to do to us out here." I stood up. "Let's follow them."
June and I slipped into the school through the door and began following the guys at a distance with our torches pointed firmly at the ground. "How on earth are we gonna get the bra back?" June asked. "The cleaner's most likely going to put it in the cleaning cupboard which is always locked."
I raised my eyebrows. "How do you know that?"
"I was looking for a mop earlier."
We made it down a few dark corridors then rounded the corner only to be suddenly blinded by a torch light turning on. "Jackson thought he saw you two in the bushes." There before us was Griffin and the other two guys standing in the middle of a corridor crossroads. Griffin smirked and continued shining his torch in my face. "I knew you'd try and get your bra back."

"I will get it back," I corrected him, shielding my eyes.
Griffin slowly smiled. "Of cour—"
The sound of a door closing echoed down the corridor to our right.
"Did you hear that?" One of the guys said suddenly.
June rolled her eyes. "You'd have to be deaf not too."
"Torches off," I hissed and a few seconds later we were standing in darkness. I strained my ears trying to work out what the person was doing.
Footsteps. And by their increasing loudness they were coming straight towards us.
Jackson and the other guy looked at each other then bolted back the way we came without saying a word.
Griffin frowned. "Not sure about you two but I don't want to get stuck outside or caught. A prank is not worth getting sent home."
I made eye contact with June and we silently agreed that we too were not going back outside.
"Let's go." I whispered and the two of us started running down the corridor to our right.
"You're going the wrong way princess," Griffin called quietly after us.
"Ignore him," June said. "He'll just be trying to get us in trouble."
We continued down the corridor and for a moment I thought we'd made it. That was until we rounded a corner and came to a dead end with only a locked classroom.
June cursed. "Shit. We have to turn around."
This time we sprinted back down the corridor, pausing only to glance around corners for any teachers. We made it back to where Griffin had left us without getting caught, then headed down the corridor that Griffin had taken.
A light was on in one of the classrooms as we passed it and I briefly glimpsed a few teachers sitting around talking. Of course it was just our luck to be out on one of the nights the teachers decided to hang with one another.
"Faster," I gasped as we heard the teachers beginning to get up.
"We need to split up," June breathed as our corridor met a flight of stairs.
"Agreed." If June and I ran the same way it would be more likely for us to both be caught. "See you back at the dorm."
We split directions, June went up the stairs and I continued down the corridor, thankfully lit by fire exit signs. I made it round a few more corridors then suddenly heard my name being whispered. I came to a halt and spun round to see Griffin standing behind me. I almost jumped out of my skin. "How did you get there?" I hissed.

"In here," he said, gesturing to a cupboard that blended so well with the shadows on the wall that I'd missed seeing it.
Griffin jumped in and I hesitated for half a second before darting into the cupboard after him, closing the door quietly behind me. I felt warm arms enclosing around me and I froze. "Hello princess." His voice appeared by my ear sending an unwanted shiver down my body.
I spun around using annoyance to cover up my nervousness. "You had to pick a tiny ass cupboard didn't you—" Suddenly he pressed a hand over my mouth, silencing me. My eyes widened as I realised there were footsteps and quiet voices coming down the corridor towards our spot.
"I'm sure I heard running footsteps past the classroom a minute ago," a teacher says right outside the cupboard.
"Are you sure Gladys? I didn't see anything. Maybe it was the cleaner?" another replies.
I held my breath as the voices continued past.
Griffin slowly dropped his hand to his side and we waited in utter silence, ears straining to hear the people.
My heart skipped a beat.
Thoughts about being sent home were terrifying enough and being pressed up against Griffin's toned body wasn't making it any easier to relax. Eventually the footsteps couldn't be heard and after a minute or so I reached for the door handle, planning to open it.
Suddenly I felt Griffin's warm hand stopping mine. "What?" I whispered.
"You're about to make a rookie mistake. You have to wait at least five minutes to be sure that they've actually gone."
"Says who?"
"Says me. I'm guessing this is your first time in a cupboard?" He continued in a low voice. "You know, when two people come together like this it often leads to—"
I smacked his chest. "Absolutely not."
I felt him shrug. "Maybe next time then."
"I'm not planning to make this a recurring situation," I said flatly.
"No?" Griffin's voice dropped. "I wouldn't mind being in here with you again."
My pulse quickened but I refused to let him see the effect that he was having on my traitorous body.
He is a player, I reminded myself, an arrogant person who means nothing to you.
"Why people would ever choose to sleep with someone as vexatious as you is beyond my imagination," I scoffed.
"Careful." I didn't have to look up to know that he was smirking. "It's a fine line between love and hate."
I ignored him.
"I'm opening it." My hand went for the door handle again. "I'd rather risk being caught by teachers than being stuck in here with you any longer."
Without waiting a second longer I opened the door and to my relief, saw no one in the corridor. Griffin followed me out of the cupboard and I was relieved to find it was still dark enough out here to hide my blush from him.
"That was a close one," I breathed, then caught sight of his smug expression. "Yeah, yeah, you were right about the directions." I sighed.
He laughed. "You're welcome. Come on, let's try to get back to our dorms without getting caught."
At least he decided to avoid saying, I told you so.
We walked back in silence. Griffin led the way and I was too worn out to question his directions and besides, he'd already shown he knew his way around before. We ended up coming to a halt outside my dorm room and I turned to look at him. Shadows danced across his face, accentuating his jawline. "So you can be a gentleman," I said playfully.
"Sometimes, though I'm not sure it's gentlemanly to be holding a lady's bra hostage," he replied, pulling out an all too familiar princess bra from his hoodie pocket.
I took it from him. "You... how did you get it back?"
He leaned past me and quietly opened my dorm door. "Sweet dreams princess."
