《Walking a fine line✔️》4. Darth Vader

"Is it time?" June whispered down to me over the side of the bunk bed. Even though it was too dark to see her face, I could hear the excitement in her voice.

My watch lit up in the darkness and I peered at its hands.

Midnight.

"It's time," I replied.

As quietly as we could, we grabbed our stuff and snuck out of the dorm room. Once into the corridor June turned on her phone torch, lighting up the deserted corridor.

"Kinda spooky," June laughed as we started walking. "I wonder if there's any ghosts here that we should look out for."

"I'd say we're the ones people should be looking out for tonight." I felt around in my pocket. The fake tattoos were there. "Which tower did you say Oscar was in?"

"Aila texted me North so we have to hope she's correct."

I grinned. "Time for the North Tower to experience the wrath of revenge seeking ghosts."

"Oscar's going to regret freezing my shoes last term," June said.

I snickered and promptly got elbowed by June. "You have to admit it was funny seeing your shoes in an ice block."

"It wasn't fun having to play the final against Beckfall in a pair of shoes two sizes too big for me thanks to him."

"And that my friend, is why we are now pranking him back." I smiled. "You know what we need right now? We need the Marauder's Map."

"I solemnly swear we are completely up to mischief." June laughed and I groaned at her quote butchering.

After unpacking earlier and having a school meeting, we'd spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the school and its grounds with Ruben and Noah. Our venturing had paid off and thankfully after a few minutes we managed to reach the door to the North Tower boy's dormitory without getting caught or lost. The night patrol was surprisingly slack for one which you'd expect would be at its top game due to the many teenager inhabitants.

We came to a halt and June asked, "Remember the plan?"

I nodded. "Of course."

June turned the torch light down to its lowest brightness and silently opened the door. The room was almost identical to our own with bunk beds lining the walls and a few cupboards and a table at the far end. A bathroom was attached to the side and its glowing green door sign gave off just enough light for us to see without the torch.

I stood by the door, letting June walk down the room looking for Oscar. Unnecessary movement led to a higher chance of waking up one of the boys. My eyes suddenly widened as I realised that I recognised the boy lightly snoring in the bottom bunk closest to the door.

Noah.

I waved to get June's attention and she paused. I pointed at Noah and her eyebrows lifted.

"Show we wake him up?" I mouthed. Having an accomplice inside the room would be even better.

June gave me a thumbs up and watched as I tapped him on the shoulder.

"Noah," I whispered as he began to stir.

"Rory?" he asked, rubbing his eyes.

"Shhhh. We don't want anyone else to wake up. June's here too."

He sat up and ran a hand through his short brown hair. "What are you guys doing?"

I pulled out the fake Star Wars tattoos and handed him one. His eyebrows raised at the sight of the dancing stormtroopers.

"Do you have an Oscar in your dorm?" I asked.

Noah began to smile. "You guys aren't..."

"Oh yes we are," I replied. "And now so are you."

"Hey Rory," June hissed quietly. "Come here, not only have I found Oscar but in the next bed over is your favourite person."

Noah and I walked over to June in the middle of the room and there asleep in the bed in front of her was a guy who I assumed was Oscar, and in the bed beside him was Shoulder-basher, tousled dark hair framing his handsome face.

I looked up at June and saw her expression matching my own. We now had a second victim.

"What do you two have against Beckfall's hockey team?" Noah whispered.

"Meet Shoulder-basher and Iceman," June said with a wave at the sleeping boys. "Our nemeses."

"Got it."

"May the force be with you both," I said and then quickly and quietly the three of us began applying the numerous Star Wars tattoos to the sleeping boys.

Shoulder-basher slept topless on his stomach, his toned back exposed to me. After five, nerve wracking minutes of wondering if I'd wake him up, I finally stood back up and admired my work. Stormtroopers now danced on his shoulder blades, Jabba the Hutt lay sprawled out on his spine, and Darth Vader blew a kiss from the side of his arm. I'd taken particular pleasure peeling that last one off, maybe Shoulder-basher would learn not to walk into people in the hallways.

"These two are masterpieces," June whispered.

"And they'll stay masterpieces for at least a week," I said, reading the back of the tattoo packet.

"Remind me not to get on either of your bad sides."

"Don't get on either of our bad sides," I echoed playfully. "Now onto phase two."

"Phase two?"

June whipped the speaker out of her hoodie pocket. "Phase two."

I turned to Noah. "We apologise in advance."

"Do you by any chance have headphones that you can wear tonight?" June asked, slipping the speaker into one of the cupboards.

"I do."

"Good. Prepare yourself for one of the most iconic soundtracks of all time to go off every hour," I said. We'd downloaded an app that not only connected our phones to the speaker from a distance, but could also turn it on even if the boys turned it off.

Noah shook his head silently laughing. "They're going to hate you."

June bumped his shoulder. "Who says they'll find out it's us."

I glanced at my watch. "Guys, we have ten minutes to get into position. Goodnight Noah, June and I are going to hide outside then run back to our dorm."

"See you in the morning," June said.

We snuck outside, leaving Noah rummaging around for his head phones. Once the door was safely shut I high fived June.

"Could that have gone any better?" She laughed quietly.

"And we now know Noah is down for pranks!" I exclaimed.

We waited in the hallway for a few minutes and then suddenly, it began. The Imperial March blasted out of the speaker quickly followed by the yelps of surprised boys.

"Someone turn that thing off!" one voice cried.

"Where is it even coming from?" another replied.

There were a few more clunks as the guys tried to find the speaker and then finally the sound was turned off.

"Dude you have Darth Vader on your arm."

My eyes widened and June's grip tightened. Both of us trying our hardest to stifle our laughs.

"What! Who did this?" I heard Shoulder-basher say.

"Well it wasn't me bro, somebody got me too, I have Yoda on my ribs." That must be Oscar speaking. "Now people will think we're nerds."

"Whoever did this will pay." Shoulder-basher growled.

"I was asleep!"

"Me too."

"Dude, I don't think it was anybody here."

"Then who did it?"

I turned to June. "I think it's time for us to leave."

She nodded. "I agree."

And thank goodness we did leave them, for the moment we got round the corner, we heard their door open and voices enter the corridor.

"Run!" June mouthed and we did.

By the time we made it back to our own dorm my lungs were crying out in misery while June looked barely flushed.

"That... was... brilliant," I said through gasping breaths.

June climbed up into her bed. "Operation Skyhook completed without a hitch."

"We nailed it. Now it's time to sleep, I'm exhausted." I said, getting into my own. "Sweet dreams."

"But not for them." I felt our bunk bed shake as June laughed.
