《Balance》Chapter 14 ~ Divergent

"Layla, can you put these in the dishwasher please!" I shout down the counter putting dirty milkshake glasses into a wet dishwasher tray.
"Sure, are you off now?" She says walking out of the kitchen with a plate of fries, it's been a very slow morning.
"Yeah, I'm just finishing-" I turn around to tidy the counter area when I jump out of my skin. Blaze is leaning on it, chin resting on his tattooed knuckles. He smirks slightly, asserting his dominance like a peacock, you know, when they flap all their feathers out.
"You have really got to stop sneaking up on me, one day I'm going to have a heart attack." He lets out a low chuckle that seeps right through me, making my stomach go all fuzzy.
"It's not my fault you're so jumpy." He says, his eyes following me as a grab some dirty plates.
"Not too... uh sounds... rude but what are you... doing here?" I look around to see if the others are here but its still as empty as it was when I started my shift this morning.
"Well Vixxie sent me to come get food and since I was coming here I figured I'd pick you up too. Wouldn't want you going to the wrong address..." He raises a brow, I know I'm never going to live this down, he probably thinks I'm even weirder than I am lying about where I live.
"Oh... okay.... Thanks, let me put your order in and then I'll go grab my stuff." I pull out my notepad from my front pocket when the kitchen door swings open again,
"UGH! My feet are fucking killing me, how do you deal with these sodding boots- oh hottie alert." Layla rushes over to the counter, "Who's this hunk Atty and is he in college?" She twiddles her hair around her finger gazing seductively at Blaze. That's one of the things I love about her, she's so upfront, doesn't bounce around the bullshit.
"Layla this is Blaze my... friend from school..." I tell her, as she grins widely sucking on her lip. Are we friends? We run in the same circle right so does that constitute as friends? Better than saying someone who saw me fall on my ass on the first day of senior year, right?
"Oof, one of Atty's friends! Finally... wait I know you... you were here that night, with the fight." He nods slowly.
"Anyway, I'm just going to put his order in and I'll be off," I tell her turning to Blaze, flipping my pad open.
He reels off his order of half a cow in burger form, "And whatever you want obviously- Bradys paying." He says handing over a wad of twenties.

I put the order sheet on the pass for the kitchen and go back to where Blaze has sat himself down in one of the stools.
"Are we friends now?." Blaze questions with a smirk as we walk out to his mustang, hands full of bagged food, grease stains lining the bottom of the brown bags.
"Huh," I look at him, puzzled, before sliding into the passenger's side of the car, careful I don't flash anyone in my skirt.
"Yeah, you told your friend back there I was your 'friend from school." He chews on his minty gum as the car starts up, my face blushing... I mean I guess he's my friend, I don't know, I just didn't know what to say.
"I uh... well- I just... it was..."
"Chill Blondie I was pulling your leg, I 'spose being Bradys friend kind of makes you mine." He looks over briefly with a small smile once he's pulled out of the parking lot.
I...uh... thanks? I think that's a good thing right?
Standing in front of Vixxies door I feel even more of a midget than I am, the house is massive, I'm not sure what her parents do but she could be a figging princess to warrant living in a house like this, she may even be a fellow Kardashian for all I know.
"Foods here and it bought Atlas!" Rutherford opens the door with an attempt of humour and snatches the bags from our hands. We follow the 'oos', 'ahhs' and 'I'm starvings' into a hall like living room that overlooks an outside pool and yards of the green backyard. A chandelier drapes from the ceiling and illuminates the L-shaped couch everyone's spread out along. The black flat screen on the wall must be the only non-white thing in the room except a few greys and white trinkets sat by a stack of coffee table magazines.
"Come sit guys!" Vixxie says patting a bit of couch for us as we walk in. I plop down next to Vixxie, Blaze following in beside me.
"What are we watching?" I ask staring at the Netflix home screen on the flatscreen.
"Honestly we can't decide, it's half and half at the moment, you're the decider," Carrie says pushing a fry into her mouth.
"Alright... choices?"
"Divergent or Venom," Ethan says, subtly putting his arm around Carrie.
"Oh, Divergent obviously..." I say picking up a takeaway cup. Most of the guys let out a groan but the girls giggle and squeal beside me.
"And why might that be...?" Rutherford raises a brow with a smirk.
"Theo James... Duh?!" I say giggling.
"What is the thing with him? Like all girls are obsessed with him! Emily made me watch all three of the films in one night just because of him!" Rutheford moans clamping his hands over his face, talking about his girlfriend. I've never met her but apparently, she hangs about with Hannahs clique, she seems nice from the way Rutherford talks about her.

"He's a gorgeous, sexy Brit," Carrie says matter of factly.
"I'm gay and even I can appreciate the fineness of this man." Vixxie chuckles.
"He's so hot, it's unfair." I fan my face between giggles.
"You're hornier that us Jeezusss." Ethan jokes.
"The shy ones are always the freakiest." Blaze leans forward and whispers in my ear, goosebumps aline my skin and butterfly's swarm in the stomach.
Holy shit. I-
My cheeks heat like a volcano and I find myself spluttering as I reach for the remote to turn the film on before I get anymore flustered.
"You alright Blondie?" Blaze smirks at my spluttering, "Don't choke now... unless that's what you're into." His voice lowers for the second half of the sentence and I freeze, my cheeks now turning beetroot.
I don't understand how this man can make words so... sexual. It's just... He blows hot and cold constantly, I don't understand, but when it's hot... it's hot.
Halfway through the film, the boys are actually getting into it and it's hilarious to watch, every time Eric or Peter steps on the screen they boo or make snide comments, I even heard Blaze make a few noises to join in.
"What faction would you guys be if you got to pick?" Brady asks from the cushion bed he's made on the floor, "I think I would be Candour, I don't have much of a filter so honesty and truth come naturally or Dauntless because- have you seen these guns." He kisses his biceps, making me giggle, the boy indeed has no filter... and big 'guns'.
"Yeah I agree, I think I would be too- Candour not Dauntless, I don't give a shit what I say or who I say it too," Vixxie adds, that's true as well but that's what makes her, her and I wouldn't change it at all I think it's great. I do wonder how she'll get on with Connor and that trait though, I feel awful she even has to do the sodding project with him.
" I think I'd be Amity, I like to live peacefully, just planting my crops and you can make cute clothes out of the rags and weird materials they have," Carrie says looking like she's imagining this hard.
"I'd be Dauntless obviously." Ethan nods his head stoically.
"Me too." Rutherford agrees, making us laugh. They'd be the most obvious to put themselves forward.
"Blaze is defiantly Dauntless. The leather and badass attitude. You're a total Four." Brady nods from the floor and we all agree, whilst I think Dauntless is a perfect match I think he does have qualities of all of them- he's truthful, intelligent and even kind when he wants to be.
"What about you At?" Carrie asks.
I've thought about this a lot and I never think I belong to a category, ironic I know.
"She's defiantly the divergent one here. She's a bit of everything." Ethan says and everyone seems to agree. I shrug, maybe I do have a bit of each inside me.
"Except honesty." Blaze whispers in my ear, "Whereabouts do you live again?"
"You'll have to inject me with truth serum to find out," I whisper back challengingly, referencing to Insurgent, the second film.
"I'm wrecked," V says sitting next to me on the bleachers, Carrie's been working us hard this week and it's only Monday. She's given us five minutes for a quick rehydration break, or as V calls it- 'Five minutes for the cheer-bitches to gawk at the footballers'. The names genius give her that and when I look behind me, she's right. All the girls are watching and we soon find ourselves jumping on the staring bandwagon.
Immediately I'm drawn to Blaze who's running down the field, ball clutched between his hands. His biceps flex, showing the ink through the white jersey. Coach blows the whistle and the boys start moving back to the centre, I watch as Blaze removes his helmet, his eyes already looking at me.
How long has he known I've been watching him?!
He winks slightly and drops his helmet to the floor.
"It was nothing Vixxie. He just dropped me home Vixxie." V mocks beside me, "That was not a 'just dropped me home wink', that was a panty-dropping, holy shit that's a hot wink." She says dramatically. I blush.
"Calm down, he really did just drop me home that night. The only other time we've been together is when he picked me up on Saturday and I sit next to him in a few classes. Chill girl."
"I'll chill when my Blatlas ship has well and truly sailed," She squints her eyes in a plotting notion.
"You're crazy." I shove her lightly with a giggle and make my way off the bleachers.
Blatlas. Ridiculous.
I route around in my gym bag shoving my water bottle back in when I see my phone has an unread text from an odd number, not in my phonebook.
