《delivery girl》Ch.35

To say Namsoo was nervous about going to school the next day would be an understatement. He was positively terrified.
What was he supposed to say to Zack without getting in trouble with (Y/N)? He would have to suffer either way, he just had to choose the lesser evil. But that brought a new problem up. Was a beating from Zack better than facing whatever punishment (Y/N) had set out for him?
He decided he didn't want to find out.
After he had explained what had happened to Zack, leaving a couple of details out, there was silence. Zack looked torn and Daniel seemed shocked.
"... So they stole it all?"
Namsoo glanced at (Y/N) for the first time all day, and to his surprise he gave him a small smile and a wink.
'At least I'm not in trouble with (Y/N)... and she said she won't let Zack hit me... But will I have to pay it all back?'
While Zack was thinking of what he should do, (Y/N) came up and leaned on Daniel's desk.
"Go easy on him, poor kid must have thought he was gonna die." She said, quickly glancing at Namsoo, who nodded.
"You're right. I really should've gone..." Zack grumbled, scratching at the back of his head.
'Huh?'
"It's my fault."
'Zack!! I'm touched.'
"I hope you aren't lying to me."
'Yikes!!'
Suddenly, Yui came flouncing up to Zack's desk. "Zack, whatcha talking about?"
"Oh? Yui?"
"Politics." (Y/N) quickly replied, trying to ward her off. Yui pouted at her lie and waited for Zack's answer.
"Just this and that-"
"Hmm~ You said you still have their messenger contact?" Yui hummed thoughtfully, she had already been listening in on their conversation.
"Oh, yeah. It's still there."
"Wow! It was a girl?"
"No. I thought it was a girl but a bunch of guys showed up with her."
(Y/N) snorted, quickly covering it up with a cough making Daniel grin to himself.
"Now I know the whole story." Zack growled, narrowing his eyes at Namsoo.
'Yikes! I forgot!!' Namsoo nervously glanced at Zack.
"That fake phone is worth money. They'll max its use until it's reported." Yui explained.

"Ah!"
"Which means they might already have a new number." (Y/N) countered.
"Let's look up the number Namsoo used on Craigslist."
"Would you look at that! The last ad was from a couple of minutes ago." Yui exclaimed, giving (Y/N) a smug look.
"So that means that all of these items are fake? Those punks!"
"You could use your phone to pretend you're interested in buying them, Zack."
"That way I can meet these scam artists in person." Zack said with an evil grin.
"Zack, first change your profile picture pic and text them. If they think they're talking to a pushover like Namsoo, they'll come."
Namsoo huffed to himself. 'Do I really look like a pushover?'
"Nah, I think Zack looks enough like a pushover. He has the hair for it." (Y/N) teased.
"Hey!" Zack barked.
Yui snatched Zack's phone and brought up the camera. "Let's see... Any pushovers here... Hey Jiho, over here!"
"Huh?" Jiho mumbled, turning his head to look for who had called his name.
Yui snapped the picture. "Okay, thanks!"
"Nice! If they see that baby face they'll fall for it 100%!"
"Haha, you're right!"
Namsoo blankly watched the group chatter. 'I'm not sure what's going on, but I feel very unpleasant.'
'Jiho...' Daniel looked over at his friend.
"Now we have to message them as if we're buyers?" Zack asked, tapping away at his phone.
"Yep. And say you have to meet in person."
"Oh! They replied. They wanna meet at Gian Station".
"Huh? They told me Gian Station was a halfway meetup?!"
"Are you really surprised that the scammers lied to you?" (Y/N) asked dryly.
"They must live around Gian Station but lie about it. It's a common trick."
Namsoo gulped.
"Hey, Yui. How do you know about all of this?" Daniel asked.
"Oh! My ex was a scammer too so I saw it a lot."
'Oh... that guy...'
"Without Zack, he'd still be around~"
Zack sent her a warning look, 'Hey! Hey! Hey!' He glanced over to Mira, who was trying to pretend she wasn't listening.

"You just watched your boyfriend do that?"
"Uh... well..." Yui began to blush. "I was scared of him, cuz he's the cool guy at school... And he was the only one I had."
Namsoo huffed, 'She knew it was wrong and still let it happen.' He opened his mouth to speak.
"But-!"
(Y/N) silenced him with a sharp look before giving a reply of her own. "I can respect that."
Yui sent her a thankful look. 'I guess she can be okay sometimes...'
Zack stood up. "Well, I guess we should get going." His three followers did the same.
'Wow, scary... if they go all together, there'll definitely be a fight.' Daniel thought to himself.
"What're you doing?" Doo asked Daniel. "Let's go, we'll eat first."
Daniel gaped at them.
"Ah! I was just packing things!" Daniel explained, standing up at quickly as he could.
"Haha, so slow."
"Hey, relax. I can go alone." Zack said with a frown.
"I'll go too." (Y/N) said, standing up as well.
Zack clamped his mouth shut and looked at the girl with a surprised expression.
"It's a rough area." one of Zack's followers said, trying to deter (Y/N).
"This is a dangerous job for men."
"(Y/N)..." Daniel started, 'They're right, I don't want her to get hurt.'
"Do any of you even know how to get to Gian Station?" (Y/N) asked plainly.
The boys went silent for a minute. 'Shit, she's right.'
"We can use GPS." Zack argued.
"I do deliveries in that area all the time, so I know it well." (Y/N) said, her backpack already on her shoulders and she was walking to the door.
She turned around in the doorway and gave them an expectant look.
"What are you guys waiting for?" she asked.
"You can choose what we eat, haha."
"I'll pay for you!"
Jay rested his chin the palm of his hand as he listened to the rowdy group leave the classroom.

Outside Jace and Vasco were watering the small garden that was by their department.
"Vasco. What seeds did you plant?" Jace asked.
"Fruits. I brought them cuz they're tasty. We'll share them after our harvest."
Jace was touched, 'Vasco!'
"Vasco! What kind of fruit?"
"Durian, they call it the king of fruits. And mango, (Y/N) said it was her favorite. I'll make sure she saves some for you, Jace."
'Vasco! Tropical fruits can't be grown in Korea! Let's not tell him...' Jace thought, not wanting to hurt his friend's feelings.
Vasco perked up when he heard a group approaching from behind.
"Daniel! Where ya headed?"
Zack's three goons stopped when they heard Vasco's voice.
(Y/N) peeked her head out from where she was standing behind Daniel. "Hi Vasco."
"(Y/N)! You're here too!"
"Huh? Vasco?" Daniel said aloud. He proceeded to explain where they were going.
"Was that kid badly hurt?" Vasco asked.
"Yeah, it's sad..."
"Bastards. Let's go together."
"What? Vasco? Then you should go with our guys." Jace said, dropping his hose.
"No... Just relax and plant the seeds. I'll be back soon. Be nice to each other while I'm gone."
Zack thought for a moment before speaking up. "Hey, you guys stay here too. We'll go with Daniel."
"Yeah... okay."
"No reason for us to go."
"Let's grab a bite."
'What?! Why?' "No! Shouldn't we all go?" Daniel asked, shocked.
"With too many, it'll be tricky."
(Y/N) was upset for a different reason.
"I thought I was getting free lunch." She grumbled.
"Go on a date with me and I'll get you all of the food you want." Crimson chin offered.
"Guess I'll starve." (Y/N) said with a shrug.
"You pay for the subway ride." Vasco said, getting into line with the other three.
"Both of you are so damn cheap! You don't even have to come!" Zack argued.
"Let's just go together..." Daniel said, trying to keep the peace.
Back in the classroom, Yui threw her arm over Namsoo's shoulders.
"Hey, show me. We're gonna follow." 'Zack...'
"What? No way in hell!" Namsoo refused.
"What? I'm going too! Gotta buy something at the stationary store in that area!" Mira quickly explained, gathering her things so she could go.
In the school parking lot, one could hear an engine revving.
Jay swung his leg over his motorcycle and used his teeth to pull his leather glove down his wrist.

The friends found themselves home in the real world, exactly as they'd been the night they were taken, as if no time had passed... except only three came back. Hi there! This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time. Also, the updates will be sporadic at best since I can only write when I'm free which is, unfortunately, rare.
