《Before I Go ✔️》Chapter 34 | Before I Go To Breakfast

I get off of the bed and feel Gavin's eyes watch me as I stumble around the room to find my clothes. I grab my underwear and put them on after putting on Gavin's black t shirt. His heavenly scent was still lingering behind in it. I turn around and grab my notebook that is still laying in my empty trash bin. I dust it off and crawl onto the bed I sit facing Gavin and he looks at me with curious eyes.
"I want to show you this." I stare down at the book in my hands, I'm hesitant to show him because I've never showed anyone my drawings before. "It's what I use to draw in."
I hand it to him and he takes it in his hands before he lifts its open. "You did these?" His eyes don't leave the book and then I see his Adam's apple bob once he reaches the drawings I have of him.
"Yes, I hope this isn't weird, you just seemed perfect to draw." I say hoping he won't think I'm and actually crazy person. "You had these emotions that I wasn't able to capture with anyone else.
"There amazing." Gavin smiles. "I didn't think you knew much about art."
I laugh and brush back a loose strand of hair. "Art was the only thing keeping me sane well until you came along." I nudge him and he laughs lightly. "Do you draw?"
I can't help but remember all the books and that notebook I saw in his room last week.
"I used to, not so much anymore." Gavin tells me closing the book he hands it back to me. "It's nothing compared to yours I mean do you plan on doing that after high school?"
I shrug. "I haven't really thought about what I'm going to do."
"Who's your favorite artist?"
"Frida Kahlo, her portraits inspired me to try and make my own unique art, her style was so unique and it always seemed to represent her culture and-" I stop myself from rambling on. "What about you?"
"Edvard Munch no doubt about that. His art captured the real feelings of living people around him the suffering and love."
So he does know about art.
I take the notebook and put it back on my nightstand before Gavin pulls me into his arms once again.
"I never told anyone about us because I didn't want them to think I was just using you like I used Mia. It's different this time, really different." Gavin says.
"No more secrets." I say. "Do you promise me?"
Gavin nods his head. "No more secrets."
I feel guilty as I remember I should tell him about my surgery and that I need a donor but I didn't want to ruin this moment, so I don't. "Why do you go to Mabel's Diner when your unhappy?" I ask running my fingers through his hair.
"My dad used to take me there all the time when I was a kid. It was before he started beating on my mom and before he started beating on me. I guess it just reminds me of a happier time, a time when I had a family I was proud of."

I hug him feeling the pain he doesn't feel, Gavin was so emotionless. After all he's endured he became so heartless and cold.
"Sorry, you just looked like you really needed a hug." I say to him. "Maybe we can have breakfast there tomorrow, I can invite my mom and your mom and then I can take you to my appointment, that is if you want to go."
Gavin's lips curve up into a smile. "I can't remember the last time I had breakfast with my mom, but I'll do it for you."
I rest my head back on his chest and prepare for a good nights sleep. "Goodnight, I love you."
"I love you."
Once I close my eyes I feel exhaustion take over my body and shortly after I fall asleep.
"I'll meet you at Mabel's in thirty minutes." I tell Gavin. He finally nods his head and leaves my room so I can get ready. I asked my mother if she wanted to join us and she seemed surprised I even thought to invite her in the first place.
I know, this was bizarre for me too. I just wanted to do something nice for Gavin and getting are families together seemed to be a good start. Especially now that we've gotten very close and we're together, Gavin hasn't told Sarah about us and I think this is the perfect time to tell her.
I put on some black leggings and a sweatshirt after I take and shower. I also brush out my hair and put on some shoes before I meet my mom downstairs. She looks somewhat casual, wearing black dress pants and a black coat, I want to make a joke out of it but I hold back from asking her if she's attending breakfast or a funeral.
I get a text from Gavin saying he's already on his way over so I hurry my mother up and we both leave in her car. Although it was a bit cold outside the sun was out which made the outside weather bearable.
"Peter wanted to join us."
I snort as we make our way down the road. "I'll believe that when I see pigs fly."
"He's trying Alex." My mom says.
"Trying to be a worthless piece of-" I let out a dramatic sigh when my mother snaps her head to look at me.
"Maybe, you can invite Gavin over tonight and I'll prepare a dinner for us."
The idea already sounds horrible, I can see Peter saying something stupid and then Gavin would snap at him and then they'd end up fighting it out in the front yard. No thanks.
"No." I laugh out loud at the mention.
"Can I tell you something?" My mother pulls into Mabels and parks.
I shrug.
"It'll never be the right time to tell you this... but Sarah and I... we were never going to business meetings... we were meeting up and have dinner because we really enjoyed each other's company." I see a smile form. "We thought if you and Gavin got close it would be simple for us, so we could tell you. But now you two are in love and it's beautiful but it's made me realize Sarah and I are better off as friends."

"What? You and Sarah were a thing? How did I not catch that?" I sound surprised.
"No it's better that you didn't because we stopped talking after Peter showed up. God the names he would call me if he found out."
"Fuck him." I curse. "You deserve to be happy mom."
"I know but you deserve it more." She smiles again. "Now let's go eat."
We both enter the warm space and I notice Gavin sitting in one of the booths. I realize he already looks annoyed with his mother who's sitting beside him. Sarah's face lights up as she sees me she pushes Gavin to step out of the booth and pulls me into her arms.
It hurts me but I don't say anything.
"I'm so glad we're doing this." She says. "Gavin never invites me anywhere I was so surprised."
"You can stop now." I hear Gavin tell her, she simply nods her head and sits back down. Gavin gestures for my mom to sit beside Sarah so she does and I take my seat in the booth first before Gavin slides in beside me.
A woman greets us and takes are order of pancakes, eggs, bacon, hash browns and orange juice as our drinks.
"You two seem pleasantly happy this morning?" Sarah laughs softly and images of last night flash through my mind I don't realize I'm biting my lip until I snap out of it.
"Actually we're together now." Gavin speaks for me and Sarah lets out a large gasp. "It's only been a week."
Only a week? Geez.
"Is this a joke?" Sarah asks, her expression quickly changes and she looks happy and sad all at once.
I shake my head and a smile grows on her face.
"I'm so glad you guys finally made a decision, isn't that great Heather?"
My mother smiles and nods her head at the both of us. If only they knew the struggles it took to get to this point.
"You better not hurt her you hear me?" Sarah scolds Gavin who rolls his eyes in reply to her.
The same woman as before hands us each a glass of orange juice. I wait for my mom to complain about it not being organic but to my surprise she doesn't.
"Gavin you should join us for dinner tonight, Alex's father has been waiting to meet you."
I almost choke on my orange juice, I look up at her but she doesn't dare look at me. She did that on purpose.
"No, that's not a good idea." I say shaking my head at her.
"Why not?" She snaps at me.
"You know exactly why." I snap back.
"I'd love to go." Gavin replies.
I bite the insides of my cheek so I won't start arguing with Gavin in front of Sarah. I turn my head to look out the large window beside are table and think about a scenario that doesn't end with Peter making are family look like a total joke.
There are none.
Sarah and my mom start talking about something and I feel Gavin grab my hand from underneath the table. "I only said I would go to stop you two from bickering about it." Gavin whispers to me. "I won't go if you don't want me too."
"I do want you to go, Peter just loves to provoke people I'm afraid you'll end up doing something you'll regret." I say.
"I promise I won't." He kisses my head and we both hear are parents gush.
"Young love." Sarah sighs like she's remembering her own experiences.
Gavin looks at me and I roll my eyes before he pulls me closer into him. Our food finally arrives and I grab what I can and I start eating. My doctors have been taking away certain medications and adding new ones so it's caused my appetite to suddenly grow.
Gavin and I finish and we wait for our parents because they've been talking this whole time they forgot to eat.
"What do you plan on doing after high school?" Sarah asks me.
"I'm not sure." I answer honestly. "The cancers put a halt on any sorta plans."
Sarah nods in understanding. "Gavin's waiting on his football scholarship. This Friday the day of Halloween is the big game."
I don't say anything, Gavin didn't tell her?
"Actually-"
"Yeah Gavin told me all about it." I nod my head at her. "I'm sure he'll have no trouble getting it."
I squeeze Gavin's hand tighter, I don't feel bad lying to her. This wasn't the time or place to tell her Gavin turned down the scholarship and quit the team.
My mother and Sarah split the bill and we finish up before leaving the diner. My mother and I wait in the car at the cancer center for Gavin to arrive, I was nervous to show him inside there, I was nervous for what the doctors were going to tell me today.
Gavin's mustang pulls up beside are car and we both get out. "You okay?" He asks looking down at me.
I nod my head and he grabs my hand and we make are way into the building. There are a lot of people here today eyes follow us as we enter the lobby and take are seats. Gavin asks if I'm okay again and I tell him I am.
A girl sitting in the row in front of us is watching us so Gavin waves at her and I can see her blush before she hides behind her magazine.
"Does everyone have cancer in here?" Gavin whispers to me.
"Most of them." I tell him.
Gavin looks back up and I can tell he's looking at the other patients around us that look a lot sicker than me, those who are going under chemo have no hair while others are carrying oxygen tanks. "Are you okay?" I ask him this time.
"I'm fine." He smirks at me.
"Alex Eastwood."
