《Before I Go ✔️》Chapter 32 | Before I Fall

I pull my bike up to the house and lock it onto a nearby post. I was going to spend my night alone until Peyton texted me telling me Gavin was at this party and that he wasn't acting himself.

I decided to ride my bike all the way here so here I am. I walk into the party before someone jumps in front of me. "You're here!" Peyton squeals and pulls me through the crowd of people. "Guys look my best friend is here."

I look at the couch Peyton's facing and see Carver and Beckham sitting down. I wave at them and then Peyton takes a seat on Beckham's lap.

"Want to go get a drink with me?" Carver asks once Beckham and Peyton begin making out beside him. I laugh and nod my head. "Who brought you to the party?" Carver adds.

"I road my bike here." I say and just saying that out loud makes me sound like a loser.

Carver laughs. "That's a great idea, saves gas."

I nod my head and we turn into a larger room. We stand beside a white table that has lots of alcohol on it, most of it was gone by now which meant most of the people in here were gone by now. "Look there's Gavin." Carver points in the direction and I see him standing with Georgia.

What? I stay calm because I don't want to cause a scene not like last time, besides he could just be telling her to leave him alone.

"For you."

I take the cup from Carver and put it to my lips. I knew all of this alcohol consumption was horrible for me yet here I am doing it anyway?

I turn to look back at Gavin and see Georgia had finally walked away. I start making my way over to him and I know he sees me he just chooses not to and walks away. I stop in my place and feel my heart sink into my chest.

"He's been acting weird all night." Carver says from behind me. "Should we go back to the couch?"

I nod my head and follow Carver. The couch is now full of couples sucking each others faces. Carver starts talking to someone so I walk away and find Ash talking to Zach. I step back and crash into a group of people who exchange dirty looks at me.

"Alex." I hear Ash call out.

I quicken my pace to get away from him.

"Alex." Now I hear Zach calling after me.

A couple turns the corner and block me from going any further, I let out a sigh I needed to get away from all these people. I try to find the exit until I'm face to face with Zach.

"Where are you going?"

I gulp down the lump in my throat. "I was looking for a bathroom."

"There's one upstairs." Zach says. "I can show you where it is?"

I can't stop staring at the dark ring around his eye. Zach turns away because I think he realizes I'm staring and leads the way for me. I feel weird following him upstairs but I do anyway because I wanted to find a bathroom so I could GPS my way back home and then leave this place.

We walk up the narrow staircase and I suddenly slip on the alcohol spilt on the top step, I fall forward bumping my head on a drawer in the hallway. Zach quickly picks me up and his eyes look into mine. "Are you okay?"

I nod and put my hand to my head and feel a throbbing pain. "Great."

Zach helps me up and we enter a bedroom. He sits me on the bed and tells me he'll get me some ice for my head but before he can leave a tall figure barges through the door and frightens the both of us. "What the hell are you doing up here with her!"

Gavin's eyes exchange glances between us and then he rushes over to me. "What happened?"

"I fell." I say wincing as I uncover the bump forming on my head. The line in the middle of Gavin's forehead softens as he looks at me and seems relieved now. "You were avoiding me."

"No, I mean yes okay I was, but I'm here now." He puts his hands on the sides of my face.

"You're only here because Zach brought me into this room and you were worried something was going to happen, I thought we went over this?" I let out grabbing onto his hands I remove them from my face.

"I know we did."

"I saw you with her and I didn't question you about it? Can't you trust me?" I ask him. I just needed him to trust me.

"I do trust you it's him I don't trust." Gavin says he looks at Zach who's standing in the room. I feel like he's still here because he's worried Gavin will do something stupid.

"What's going on in here?" Beckham enters the doorway with Peyton and Carver. "Everyone's talking about some rematch downstairs." Beckham closes the door behind him and locks it.

"Can't you all just fucking leave?" Gavin groans as Peyton walks over to me.

"Are you okay?"

I nod my head.

"No what the hells going on here? The two of you haven't fought like this in years?" Beckham asks them. "Not since-" My eyes look up at the four boys standing around and Beckham doesn't finish his sentence.

"Not since who?" I say sitting up from the bed.

"Nobody." Gavin's voice is harsh.

"Nobody?" Zach laughs.

"Not since Mia." Beckham sighs and looks down like he's ashamed he said it.

I feel the tension in this room grow.

"Mia?" I mutter. "Who's Mia?"

"Why don't you have Gavin tell you?" Zach says before he leaves the room.

Beckham never looks up from the ground and I'm afraid it's because he doesn't want to look at Gavin.

"Wait are you two?" Carver looks at Gavin and I. "Together now?"

I feel my heart sink in further this time I think it's gone for good. Gavin lied to me, he's been lying to me this entire time. As much as I hate to say it Ash was right.

"Wait you guys didn't know?" Peyton asks them. Beckham and Carver shake their heads. "But I told you Beckham?"

"Gavin doesn't date anyone I thought you meant they were just messing around? I didn't think it was this deep?"

"Do you want us to take you home?" Peyton asks me.

"I'll take her home." Gavin tells her.

"No." I sigh. "I'll go with Peyton."

A part of me wanted to stay so I could sort this out with Gavin but the other part of me wanted to go home and sort this all out tomorrow when I wasn't buzzed or at a party. Gavin opens his mouth to say something as I head for the door but he closes it and I walk out.

I sit in the backseat of Beckham's car beside Carver and nobody says a single word.

"You can hang with us if you want?" Beckham asks. "We're all heading to my house, I could drop you off later?"

Peyton shifts her whole body to look at me and smiles.

I shrug my shoulders and nod my head. I had a feeling if I go back home Gavin will try to come over and talk to me. I think we both needed some space away from each other.

I smile at the way Beckham grabs Peyton's hand and kisses it. Gavin didn't tell them about us? Beckham wasn't ashamed of Peyton, then again she didn't have cancer and she wasn't a loser like me.

I feel Carver grab my hand and he grins at me. "I saw you looking at them." He whispers and I laugh, I think it was cute that he was trying to make me feel better.

Beckham pulls into his house and we get out. We walk in and the house is completely dark and quiet. I follow them down in a basement that has Christmas and neon lights inside. It also has a couch and a couple bean bags. My eyes continue to wander around the room, there's also a TV and a pool table.

"This is nice." I say before collapsing on the couch.

"Do you want anything to drink?" Beckham calls out.

"Something for my head maybe." I say. Beckham nods his head and hands me a cold soda can. I gently place it on my head and wince. Peyton sits beside me with Beckham and Carver takes a seat on one of the bean bag chairs.

"So your the girl Gavin keeps ditching us for?" Carver laughs and pops open a soda. "The one they found skinny dipping in Shadow Lake with him?"

I roll my eyes. "We weren't skinny dipping."

"How'd you get Gavin to babysit you?" Carver adds and he sinks into his chair when Beckham shoots him a glare. "Sorry."

I shake my head. "No I actually-"

I feel my head throb again, I didn't want to hide it anymore.

"I have cancer."

The soda in Carvers mouth quickly shoots out of his nose and Beckham's eyes widen.

"What!"

I nod. "I have a type of blood cancer so my mom got Gavin to babysit me, he didn't know until about a week ago when I told him the truth."

"Shit I'm sorry." Beckham tells me. "Damn you have cancer and Gavin still acts like a dick? I'm sorry but my best friend has some issues to work on."

I let out a loose laugh.

"Well your secrets safe with us." Carver tells me. Gavin really did have great friends in his life. I'd expect them to be total assholes like him but they're actually pretty decent.

We spend the rest of the time talking about my cancer because Beckham and Carver seem to have and endless amount of questions. I think I'm finally ready to go home when I start yawning.

We get back into Beckham's car and arrive shortly after. We pull up to the front of my house and I see Gavin's car parked in his driveway.

"Thanks for the ride." I wave to them and close the door behind me. As I approach my steps I see my bike on my porch, I forgot I had left it back at the party. I laugh when I realize the lock that kept it from getting stolen was broken off.

Gavin must have done that, he's the only person who knows I have and ugly blue bike. I pull out the key I left for myself under a rock in a flower pot and enter my house.

I sigh once I enter, I look in the living room to find Peter snoring on the couch. I quietly head upstairs and almost yell when I see Gavin sitting at the edge of my bed.

"You broke into my room?" I say, I quickly close the door and lock it. "Get out."

"No I couldn't sleep and I think we need to talk."

"You think?" I laugh and take off my jacket. "I'm tired so could you please leave me alone?"

"Wait, I need to get everything off my chest, starting with Mia."
