"How was that Mr. Terrence?" I asked my boss. The band and I were currently rehearsing our set for this Friday.

"That was perfect Cristina. I have to get going, but I trust you guys will finish up rehearsing while i'm gone."

"Don't worry. We'll run through the setlist one more time and we'll pack up for the day." I assure him.

"Okay then. See you guys tomorrow." He waves goodbye as he goes out the door.

Just as he goes out I see someone out of the corner of my eye come in. It was Derek. My smile fell as I saw him walking towards me.

"Hey guys can we take five before running it again?" I ask the band.

They all nod and I hop off the stage. Derek walks up to me slowly looking guilty with his hands in his pockets.

"Hey." He says. I don't say anything and just cross my arms while glaring at him. "You look good."

"Well apparently not as good as the girl you were making out with in the booth last week."

"Listen I know you won't believe me when I say this, but i'm saying it anyway. I miss you. And I know you miss me too."

"You're right, I don't believe you. So don't flatter yourself."

"I won't if you start being honest with yourself and admit you wanna get back together with me."

I roll my eyes at the complete ridiculousness of his statement.

"You want honesty? Fine here it is. I don't miss you. After I saw you kissing that girl, do you know what my first thought was? I thought 'how could I be so stupid?' As in, how could I be so stupid to let somebody who was practically a stranger to me, make me look like an idiot? An idiot for not knowing, for trusting you, for letting you waste my time. You wanna know what I didn't think? I didn't say to myself, 'damn I really liked him' or 'how could he do this to me'? It took you cheating for me to realize that I don't really care about you. We were nice acquaintances who made out occasionally and nothing more. You embarrass me Derek. You embarrass me because you made me feel stupid. You embarrassed me when I defended you to my mom and my friends, only for you to BETRAY me. I had to ask Shawn to be my date to my mom's birthday when you couldn't anymore because you decided to swallow another girls tongue AT MY WORKPLACE!"

"Wait you're taking Shawn as your date?"

"Is that seriously all that you got from what I just said?" He chuckles at my comment. "What's so funny?"

"I see it now."

"See what?"

"Why you won't take me back."

"Yeah well you wanted honesty, so I gave it to you."

"That wasn't honest."

"Excuse me?"

"That all may be true. but you won't take me back because of something else."

"You mean the fact that you swabbed another girls mouth with your tongue and have the audacity to call me dishonest?"

"You like him."

"Who him?"

"Shawn."

I was taken aback by the name that just came out of his mouth. I stopped for a second to gather my thoughts.

"Ah, silence. So i'm right then."

"No. You cheated, accused me of lying, and then said you think I have feelings for my best friend of 10 years. Excuse me if it takes me a minute to process the idiocy of it all."

"You asked to take HIM of all people to your mom's party."

"And? He's my best friend and he offered."

"Ooooh, he offered. Plot twist."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I crossed my arms.

"It means he likes you."

I scoff. "You will just say anything to make it look like this breakup is my fault won't you?"

"I cheated and I get that it hurt you. But you and your 'friend' already got back at me so i'm assuming you not wanting to get back together with me has something to do with him."

"Or I figured out that liars and manipulators aren't my type." I smiled sarcastically

"You know I never said anything because I knew you'd never be unfaithful to me—"

"Funny how that apparently wasn't a mutual agreement."

"...but I never really liked how close you were with Shawn."

"Ooh he's a liar, cheater, AND the jealous type too. I never knew how complex you were Derek."

"Oh please you two were both always at each other's back and call."

"You're delusional. We've been best friends since we were five, of course we are gonna hang out a lot."

"You never hung out with Cory as much as you did with Shawn."

"Cory has a girlfriend in case you forgot. And unlike you he's loyal and likes to spend time with her."

"You ever notice how Shawn is known around school for being a ladies man."

"I'm not blind derek. And you're kinda proving my point here."

"Really? Then how come he never had a date or let any other girl interfere when you wanted to spend time with him." I don't say anything and he smiles. "Be honest. Has he ever canceled on you or rescheduled plans with you because he had a date?"

"Yes actually."

"Okay, how about after you started dating me?" Once again I don't respond. "Yeah I thought so."

"So what? It's just a coincidence."

"It wasn't just that."

"Then what else was it?"

"You remember on our first date, when you were telling me about your friends, and how you talked about them so endearingly?"

"Duh, they're my friends of course I think highly of them."

"Yeah, you talked about Topanga and how independent she was. You told me about Cory and how corky he was. But then you told me about Shawn. From the moment you said his name I had a feeling he'd be trouble for me. The way you looked when you talked about him was different than the others."

"Give me a break." I sit down in a nearby booth and he sits across from me, continuing this insane conversation.

"You may think i'm making this up, but on scouts honor i'm telling the truth."

"Cheaters have no honor."

"Maybe not. But i'm not blind. I saw the way your face lit up when you talked about him. He wasn't just one trait to you. He was loyal, funny, adventurous, creative."

"So I talked up my best friend, big deal."

"Hey i'm just saying what I noticed."

"Well you need to get your eyes checked. Either that or you're talking out of your ass here to try and save what you think we had."

"You were honest with me so i'm gonna help you be honest with yourself. You like Shawn, and he likes you."

"Yeah and i'm the secret love child of the royal family in Britain. Shhh don't tell my parents."

"You act like i'm joking but I know what I saw and I know you." I roll my eyes "Hey, I do. I may have cheated, but that doesn't mean that I never cared about you. I paid attention to you. And I always felt that you and Shawn were closer than you let on. and if you weren't then you wanted to be."

"I'm going back to rehearsals Derek. I think i've surpassed my bullshit limit for the week. If you want to spring for the unlimited plan you'll have to call the company and purchase it for only 200 bucks a month."

"Fine. Joke all you want, but from here you're either going to run to Shawn or come back to me and you know it."

"What I do know is that this conversation is over and you can go back to your warm lipped friend knowing she has my sloppy seconds. Not that you were much to begin with."

Before I turn around to walk away I see his face turn beet red and I can't help but smile.

"Fine! Go be with the trailer trash! See if I care!" I turn back around, walk up to him and look him right in the eyes.

"He may have been raised in a trailer, but he's not the one who's takes the title as trash in my book."

He turns around quickly and takes off out of the door.

Our bassist Ben came up to me. "Are you okay?"

"Well I just told off my ex..." I look over and smile at him.

"So I've never felt better."
