《Set Apart》Chapter 19~

I hate Saturday's. For the average person, Saturday's are supposed to be the one day you can stay up late and sleep in without worrying about school. For me, they are the nights when the boys like to go out on dates and i'm stuck home alone by myself. Cory and Shawn used to trade weekends to see which one of them would spend time with me. But ever since Cory and Topanga got together I see Cory less, I don't blame him though. As for Shawn he's just been weird lately. We don't really get one on one time anymore, he's always on dates with girls he talks to for no longer than a week. It's the damn testosterone.

As of right now i'm sitting in my room bored out of my mind. My dad and step mom took a vacation because their anniversary is tomorrow and they wanted to go get their vows renewed at the place they got married. As for my sister she's out with some of her friends right now. It's honestly upsetting me how my 11 year old sister has Saturday plans and I don't. You know what? I've had it, I need to get out of this house.

I grab my keys from my desk, my black jean jacket with my wallet in it, and head outside. It's only 3 pm so maybe i'll go get a coffee. I've been meaning to try this cute little place that just opened up by my house. I walked for about 10 minutes before I walked in and went to the counter to order. I'm not really paying attention to my surroundings right now because i'm trying to look at the menu to see what I want.

"I can take the next customer in line."

I pulled out my wallet and walked to the counter. I made eye contact with the cashier. Holy mother of sweet baby Jesus he was . "Umm." Cristina play it cool. "Can I have a large regular black coffee?" I couldn't help but smile when I looked at him.

"Black? You've been drinking coffee for a while huh."

"Yeah how'd you know?"

"It may sound lame but you can actually tell a lot about a person by their go to coffee order."

"You're right it does sound lame." He laughs and I am trying so hard to keep my cool right now while looking at his cute little dimples.

"What's your name?" He asks me.

"I'm Cristina." I smile at him.

"Tell you what Cristina, I happen to think you're really cute and my shift ends in about 10 minutes, so maybe you wouldn't mind waiting so we could go somewhere together?"

"Hmm, let me think about this, this weird psychic guy that i've never met before is asking me on a date and I don't even know his name yet..."

"I'm Derek"

"Seems legit, i'm in."

I went over to Cory's house to see if he had gotten back from his date with Topanga yet. When I opened the door I saw them on the couch kissing. They hadn't noticed me yet so I quietly closed the door and snuck behind the couch while they were still going at it. I crouched down for about 10 seconds before I jumped up and screamed.

"BAHHHHHHHH!"

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Topanga bit Cory's lip and he screamed. I couldn't stop laughing.

"Shawn what the hell?!" Topanga slapped me on the arm three times but I was still laughing so I didn't care.

"YOU GUYS SHOULD'VE SEEN YOUR FACES!" I hear Cory growl at me and look over to see him giving me the death stare.

Topanga recollects herself and turns to Cory. "I should probably go now but i'm so sorry I bit your lip." She goes to touch it and he winces.

"It's okay Topanga you didn't mean to." He looks over at me. "It was him." He points at me and lowers his voice a few octaves. I'm still chuckling.

"Bye Cory."

"Bye Topanga." Topanga shuts the door behind her and Cory turns to me. "Well now that the wife is gone how did your date go?"

"Eh, it was okay." I looked down and played with the ends of my sleeves. I was wearing the leather jacket Cris got me. I always felt nice when I wore it.

"Shawn are you alright?"

"Yeah why?" I faked a smile.

"You've been acting a bit off lately and Cristina and I have been meaning to talk to you about it."

My eyes widen. "Wait what does she think is going on?" I ask worried.

"Well neither of us know but we just know you're going through something." He sits down and the couch and I sit next to him. "Is everything alright at Turner's?"

"Yeah we're better than ever."

"Than what's the problem Shawn? And how come you went on a date today? Normally when i'm busy on a Saturday you spend it with Cris. What happened?" He sat down on the couch.

"I just made plans alright. And nothing is the problem Cory i'm perfectly fine."

"Shawn, I know you better than that. And if you're not telling me or Cris whats it is, its gotta be something big that has to do with all of us. I'm not here to judge you Shawn, i'm your best friend you can tell me anything."

He puts his hands over his face. "I've started having feelings for Cris." He said softly, making sure not to make eye contact with me.

I stayed silent for a moment. I couldn't believe it. "What kind of feelings?"

"I don't know. All of them?"

"Like the me and Topanga feelings?" I said curiously as I stood up.

"I don't know Cory. I-I just don't know what to do or how to act when i'm around her anymore." He runs his hands through his hair in frustration while sitting on the couch.

"When did this start?"

"My birthday." He looks at me. "After the party, she took me to her house because she had a second gift. She said she couldn't show me unless we went over. So we went over and went up to her room. She had her piano set up by her bed and she played me a song that she wrote for me. It was this beautiful song about best friends and sticking with each other through everything...and after it was done, I looked at her and—"

"and what?"

"and all the sudden I saw her with a completely different set of eyes. In that moment, she made me feel a type of happiness that i've never felt before. I wanna be around her and think about her all the time. When i'm not I feel empty." He slumped backwards onto the couch and looked up at the ceiling. I could tell that that was really hard for him to say.

"Cory can I ask you something?"

"Of course."

"Did what I just describe, sound like what you feel for Topanga?"

I froze. "You want the truth or you want a lie?"

"Lie."

"That's not how I feel about Topanga at ALL!" I smiled hoping to bring his mood up but it didn't work.

He looked me straight in the eye. "Truth."

"Then what you just described was pretty on the nose there Shawn." I sat back down next to him and he deeply exhaled.

"Cor i've never felt this way about anyone before."

"Not even me?" I put my hands to my chest and pouted.

Shawn chuckled. "Cor i'm serious though. What do I do from here?"

"Well you can tell her you like her." He rolled his eyes.

"I can't do that."

"Well why not?"

"You know why not, it's the same thing I told Turner, I don't want to ruin what we have when she doesn't feel the same way." He stood up frustrated.

"Wait you told Turner before you told ?!" I stood up mad but then calmed myself down to help him. "Wait, i'm calm now." I took a deep breath and he turned back to face me. "Shawn, in all the years that we have known Cristina, whats the one thing we know she admires most about a person?"

"Humor?" He asked.

"Guess again." I raised my eyebrows at him because I knew he knew the answer.

"Honesty." He looked down for a few seconds and looked back up at me.

"Nothing will change if she doesn't like you back Shawn. We are too good of friends to let that happen. The only thing that could change us is if you never let those emotions out and keep secrets from her." He knew I was right, I could see it in his facial expression.

He sat back down on the couch and put his hands over his face. We stayed silent for about a minute before he spoke up again.

"So how do I do this?"
