《The Last Set || Sugawara x Reader ||》All The Damn Corridors
Advertisement
You were running up the stairs in search of Takeda-senpai's office. Apparently he was the faculty advisor of the volleyball club. You've never met him before, but you've heard great things about him. According to Suga, he doesn't know a single thing about volleyball, but he's been their number one support since they lost Ukai and Kiyoko. You've heard that coach Ukai had a major heart attack from constant stress that he was hospitalized the same year of your accident.
Where is this teacher's office!?
You felt like your were making several laps around the school. You still weren't the best at directions and you can't believe Daichi gave you this responsibility. Mika was already in the gym prepping the nets as she was the referee. You were on towel duty and errands. You and Mika rock paper scissored for the jobs. And sadly you lost. After running around all these stupid corridors you try to recall Daichi's instructions,
Take a left up the corridor, there you will find the green door and it will be next to the one with the flower pots.
UGH, DAICHI WHICH CORRIDOR?!
You were getting frustrated as you take another left down the hall. The hallways seemed endless when all of a sudden you look up. 'Faculty's Office' the sign read.
Finally!!
You wipe the sweat off your brow and just in time, Takeda-senpai opened the door to greet you.
"Why hello Shimizu-san! Welcome to my office! Come in!"
He seems so young for a teacher. He's barely taller than me and he has such a youthful face. He could honestly be mistaken for a student.
You come inside without saying a word. You were still breathless from running the multiple corridors. Takeda-senpai took a seat at his desk and pulled out a chair for you. He offered you some water as he can tell you were exhausted.
"I can't thank you enough for doing this, Shimizu-san. The team really needs this" He poured you a glass and you take it in your hand.
"It's no problem really. You can just call me (F/N)." You say waving your hand while drinking your water.
"Oh alright, (F/N) it is. Your last name sounds so familiar. Are you related to anyone I know?"
"Um, well Kiyoko is my sister." you say shyly looking down at the water in your cup.
"No wonder you look so familiar." He pulled out his computer and opened up the 'volleyball club' folder. He then clicked a few other things and there was Kiyoko's profile. She was smiling at the camera with her volleyball club uniform on. She looks so young here. He looked at you and then back at the computer screen.
"Wow, it's like seeing twins. I really thought I was tripping out for a second. You play volleyball as well, I assume?" He said gleefully.
You fidget in your seat clearly uncomfortable at the situation. Takeda-senpai didn't notice as he continued to click a few more things on his computer.
"We thought Kiyoko went to a boarding school abroad or moved away. She didn't leave a word for us, but now that you're here it's nice that you're taking over your sis-."
You suddenly get up from your chair, startling the teacher. He looked up at you in fear that he offended you. You gently place the cup on the table and say,

"Sorry Takeda-senpai. I came here to pick up a box that Daichi-san told me to get." You look down at your shoes, embarrassed by your sudden reaction.
"Oh yes, sorry. I don't want to take up too much of your time" he apologized. He got up and retrieved a key from his desk. He then walked to the nearest closet and opened it with the key. It creaked a little showing its age. The teacher bent down and heaved this huge box, it seemed quite heavy for him. He places it on the nearby table and gestures you to come see.
"I don't know about you, but I always get excited by this time of the year." He gestures at the box and it read 'Karasuno Volleyball Uniforms'.
"Thank you, Takeda-senpai." You say bowing a bit.
"Nono, thank you (F/N). I'm glad you've joined the team!" He smiled kindly at you. You retrieve the box and lift it with all your might. It was kinda heavy for you, but you didn't want senpai to see you struggling with it. You nod goodbye as he helps you open the door.
Team. Am I considered part of the team?
"Bye Takeda-senpai! Hope to see you down at the gym sometime!"
"I'll swing by soon!" He said waving you goodbye and closing the door.
Man, that was awkward.
As you try to make your way back to the gym, the package was getting heavier overtime. Your right arm was giving in as you realize you haven't done anything super physical in a long time. Feeling your right arm go numb you accidentally drop the box, creating a loud noise in the quiet hallways. As you bend down to pick it up, a pair of feet greeted you. You glance upwards and there was a giant person standing above you.
HOLY CRAP HE'S HUGE
You tremble in fear as the giant bent over and met you face to face.
"Um, ello. Would you like some help?"
"Ah, er... yes please?" you mumble. You look towards the giant and he's wearing a Karasuno Uniform.
HE'S A STUDENT?!
He picks up the package with ease and places it over his shoulder. He looked down and greeted you with a smile. His brown hair was tied up in a man bun.
He picked it up like it was nothing!!
"Thank you!" you say quickly bowing your head multiple times out of nervousness. He let out a small chuckle and said,
"My name is Asahi Azumane. What's yours?"
"S-shimizu (F/N)" you say swallowing your words
"Nice to meet you Shimizu-san. Where are you headed?" he bowed still holding the package.
"To the gym. It's for the volleyball club." you say in a small voice. He suddenly dropped the package as if it was full of spiders. His face turned pale and the package made a huge 'THUD' towards the ground. You were in disbelief as the box dented from the impact.
Did I say something wrong?!
You turn to the fellow giant as he looks at you with fear in his eyes.
"D-did you say volleyball club" the giant man stuttered.
"Yesss?"
"Oh ah um." He looked around the hallway, as if looking for a way to escape.
"It's okay, you don't have to help me." You bend down to pick up the box again, but you were struggling to get a hold of it.

"No, it's okay I'll help you drop it off and I'll leave right after." He takes hold of it again and props it back on his shoulder.
What is with this guy? He turned into a baby when all I said was 'volleyball club'.
Both of you start awkwardly walking down the corridor and make small talk.
"So, what's the big deal with you and volleyball club, huh?" You look up at him and his face froze.
"N-nothing. Just know a few people from there. That's all." He said trembling. You knew he was lying, it's one of your hidden talents actually. You could read people easily because of your observant behaviour. This big guy's weakness is the volleyball club, how strange.
You finally reach the gym and before you open the doors Asahi drops the package at your feet and books it to the side of the gym where no one can see him.
What a strange man.
Opening the doors you were greeted with the sound of volleyballs being thrown sporadically and the smell of sweat. You look towards Asahi and he's crouched down near the gym windows. You let out a sigh and say,
"The view is much better from the inside you know?" You point at the inside of the gym. As you point at the gym, a person blocked your view. It was a smaller boy with spiky hair. He was barely taller than you and he reminded you of Hinata.
"ASAHIIII!!!" the boy yelled glaring at the giant hiding in the corner. The boy jumped out of the gym door and with a huge leap he toppled over the giant. The small boy grabbed Asahi by the collar of his shirt while the giant was lying there, stunned to the floor.
"ARE YOU COMING BACK? I DON'T WANT TO PLAY WITHOUT YOU HERE!!!" the boy screamed at the giant's face.
Who is this kid? Did I seriously miss that much?
You were about to enter the gym but all the commotion outside made the rest of the boys gather by the door. Just as you were about to lift the box, Suga came and lifted it for you.
"It's okay (F/N), let me help you." he smiled at you and at the corner of your eye Kageyama was staring at you two. You turned to him but he looked away with his arm crossed.
"Nishinoya, please get off me." Asahi begged the small boy.
"NO! NOT UNTIL YOU ADMIT YOU'RE COMING BACK TO THE TEAM." He hollered.
Nishinoya. Hm, what does he have with Asahi?
Daichi came outside and picked up Nishinoya like a rag doll. Nishinoya started to kick at the air and whine at Daichi's grip.
Hehe, he's so cute.
"C'monnnn Daichi, you need Asahi! You need your ACE!!!" Nishinoya pointed at the giant still on the ground.
ACE?!! Asahi is the ACE?!
"Let's be like mature adults and talk to him. Like how normal people do." Daichi lectured. Nishinoya gave out a small huff as Daichi set him down on the gym floor. Daichi turned around to face Asahi,
"You know, you can come and watch the 3-on-3 today. Maybe it'll change your mind."
Daichi walked back inside to set up for the game and the whole team admired their captain as they followed his lead. Nishinoya wouldn't budge as he stood in front of the door, waiting for Asahi to come inside. He realized you were still there standing by the steps. He suddenly had big bright eyes as he grabbed both of your hands and brought it to his face.
"Why hello there... My name is Nishinoya Yu. Nice to meet you beautiful." He leans forward bringing his lips to your hands. Before you could react he was hit on the head and he collapsed to the floor.
"Don't touch her you perv." the boy dusted off his hands in disgust.
"Kageyama." you say looking up into his dark eyes. He turns around quickly, avoiding your gaze and joins the rest of the team for warm up. Asahi crept up behind you and nervously asked,
"S-so should I come inside and watch?" just as he said that Nishinoya sprung alive from the floor and grabbed Asahi by the arm.
"Sit beside me you big doofus." Nishinoya dragged Asahi to the benches in a rush leaving you on the outside.
Seriously, what did I miss?! Breaking your thoughts Mika yells from inside the gym,
"Let's go! I already set up the nets!" Mika gives you a big wave from the referee spot. She sat on the high chair and was even wearing a referee outfit to match.
Where did she even get that?
You shake your head while laughing at your best friend. Entering the gym, you take your spot near the score board. You look around as everyone is prepared for the game. There was so much tension in the air, it felt just like old times in middle school.
They all seem so serious, like they're playing a real game.
You flip the score boards to '0' on both sides and Mika blows on her whistle loudly.
"OKAY EVERYONE LETS GET TO IT! ON ONE SIDE IT IS TANAKA, KAGEYAMA AND HINATA. ON THE OPPOSING SIDE WE HAVE YAMAGUCHI, TSUKISHIMA AND DAICHI!"
Where did she even get the megaphone?
You face palm yourself because Mika was being so extra. You let out a small giggle and sigh at your best friend. Nishinoya was practically jumping out of his seat and Asahi was trembling with fear beside him. Suga came to you and sat on the other side of the score board. You turn to him and asked,
"So, what's the deal with those two? And who came up with the 3 on 3 idea?" you tilt your chin to Asahi and Nishinoya.
"Well, they used to play for us, but a few complications came up. And for the 3-on-3, it was actually Kageyama and Hinata who initiated. Daichi agreed and said if they lose, Kageyama can't be a setter for the team."
He's risking that much?! But he'd die if he wasn't a setter.
You look intently at Kageyama, this time he didn't look away. His face screamed pure determination, reminding you of the times you'd watch him practice in middle school. Before you could let out another word Mika yells through her megaphone,
"LET THE PRACTICE GAME BEGIN!!!"
