《The Last Set || Sugawara x Reader ||》Milk

You wake up to the sound of birds chirping. Your head was resting on something hard. You realized you slept on your study table working all night on that report.
When did I fall asleep?
For the first time, this was one of those rare nights that you could stay asleep. A relay of events played in your head. Suga. Hugging. Meeting dad...
What a strange dream.
You grab your phone near your uncapped pen and look at the time.
0730. Wow, I actually woke up early.
You groggily get up from your desk and notice the report is not quiet finished. You quickly scribble down more information and then stand up to get ready for the day. Your mom was fast asleep, tired from her night shift, so you didn't want to wake her. You leave her a text before leaving out the door. You didn't have time to eat breakfast again because of the report. As you were about to leave, you notice someone waiting for you.
You close the front gate and there was Suga, holding sweet buns and two cartons of milk.
"Ohayō" he greeted you
"Ohayō? Suga, what are you doing here?" you replied.
"Well, I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I tried texting you but I realize I don't have your number. And um, you did just faint yesterday and I felt bad that you were up late finishing the report. I-I got you some breakfast." He gestured holding up the food.
IT WASN'T A DREAM?!
He places the sweet bun into your hands and gestures you to eat it. Red bean, huh, it's like he knew.
"Wha- why aren't you at school already?"
He looks down at his wrist watch.
"We still have time. Haha, what's the rush?"
"Do you live close by?"
"Oh, I live near the train station."
That's on the other side of town?!
"Well, we better start walking. Here, I got you some milk." You take it and puncture the box with the plastic straw. You take a sip and start walking to your right before Suga says,
"Um (F/N), it's this way." He points towards the opposite direction. Embarrassed you quickly respond with,
"Psh, I already knew that." you roll your eyes and he smirks at you. You pull out your Airpods and he stares at them.
"Want to listen?"
He takes the left Airpod and you blast some music. You continue,
"I listen to music a lot because it helps drown out the loud sounds. Plus, I really like music while I'm walking"
You start playing 'Lost in Love' by Air Supply. Embarrassed by the song you grab your phone and before you could change it, you both say simultaneously,
Advertisement
"This is my parent's anniversary song."
Looking at each other blushing, you both let out a laugh.
"I guess we have something in common, huh?" he said with a straw still in his mouth.
I guess we do.
"Anyway, I'm curious. What's going on between Kageyama, you and Mika?" He says while taking a bite of his sweet bun.
"Hah, now that is another long story."
"Ah (F/N), you and your long stories."
"Character development is what I call it" you giggle
"Well then what happens in this story"
"Well, Kageyama is sorta my..."
He waits in anticipation, it looks like he couldn't hold it in.
"Your...." he says longing with curiosity.
"My ex-crush. Er kinda?"
"Kags. What's wrong with you?"
Kageyama was kicking the vending machine. He was pretty frustrated as he repeatedly kicked it wearing his black volleyball shoes. He let out small grunts as he tried to get his stuck milk carton out.
"I. just. want. my. milk!" he angrily kicked at the machine.
"Dude, if you just wanted milk you can just do this." You hit the machine in the right spot and a big 'clunk' lets out the carton of milk. Written all over Kageyama's face was pure awe. You handed it to him and smile.
"Here. And stop your whining." He quickly takes it and mutters,
"Thanks, I guess."
Kageyama always drank milk after all his practices, it was like an unspoken tradition to him. It was of course a hot summer day. Kageyama and you always practiced volleyball together. Oh and of course Mika was there. She didn't like it when you were left alone with a boy, especially Kageyama.
"Over here!" you yell at Kageyama. He tosses you a set and you slam it on the other side. Mika just missed the ball by a second.
"Ooof I almost got that one! My turn next!" Mika said with excitement.
It went on like this. Sun shining on all your faces as you baked in the sun. Everyone getting tanned and ready to take on any volleyball tournament. Kageyama would always tease you about how short you were, but Mika would make Kageyama pay for his harsh words. You enjoyed this. Kageyama was always so mean to other people, but when it came to you, he was...different. As you all became accustomed to each other, you really like your small friend group. You all practiced so hard together, well you used to, until you disappeared on the day of the accident.
"Where is she?" Kageyama demanded. He looked up at Mika and she spat,
"How should I know you idiot."
"It's so unlike her to not be at practice. She's supposed to be helping me. My tournament is soon."

"Would you shut up. I'm sure she's dealing with something important right now."
"K. Fine. Whatever. But you better not be lying to me about where she is." He pointed a mean finger at Mika and she swats it away with disgust.
"Why you so concerned ha? It's not like she's your girlfriend or anything."
He blushed furiously and snapped at Mika,
"Get lost. It's not like that."
"Sure it is Kags. I know you like her."
As days went on Kageyama thought you were avoiding him. He thought you hated him. He eventually found out that you weren't even enrolled in school anymore. He thought you quit volleyball for good to spite him. After Mika found out about the accident, she had to keep the accident a secret because you begged her not to tell Kageyama. Kageyama sensed that Mika was lying to him and went berserk,
"Stop lying to me! You know where she is and you're not telling me." He pushed Mika against one of the shoe lockers.
"I don't know where she is! I told you a million times!" Mika shoved Kageyama back with great force into the opposite locker.
This broke out into a huge fight that they were not on longer speaking terms. Mika has been watching his volleyball games secretly and apparently he's called 'The King of the Court' because of his tyrant attitude. He was so pent up with anger he took it out on his team. Mika also mentioned that his anger caused him to be benched and you worried about him ever since.
That must've killed him.
"Well hello my two love birds!!!" Two arms were suddenly wrapped around you and Suga. You look up to see it was Mika.
"Mika!"
"Yes hello, that's me." She gave a devilish smirk as she pulled you and Suga closer together, knocking your heads together.
"Ow. Mika how long were you standing there?" you say rubbing your forehead.
"Long enough." She turns to Suga and says cheerfully,
"In short, I hate Kags."
"Um, I still don't get why?" He questioned
"Because I despise all men and their very existence."
"Ah, makes sense now." Suga said sarcastically. You then explain,
"She hates Kags because of what happened in middle school. Kageyama was getting all worked up thinking that I quit volleyball because of him. Mika had to keep my secret and well, she just hates men in general."
"Ah, now that makes sense." he said letting out a laugh.
"You told Suga about everything (F/N)?" Mika asked you with a concerned face. You nod at her and say,
"Yeah I trust Suga." You glance sideways to see his face getting pink. You ponder on the though of Kageyama and say,
"Now that I think about it, I feel bad for Kageyama. I should've at least left him a voice mail when I was at the hospital"
"Well, well. When (F/N) was in the hospital, she could not stop talking about Kageyama would she?" Mika teased while pinching your cheeks. Your face began to feel hotter as you say quickly,
"Well, we were all close friends in middle school. So of course I was worried." Suga was silent as they all walked to school. As you finally reach the school, Suga then asked Mika,
"So what class do you have today?"
"Oh I have biology with you guys today."
"Right, I guess we still have to hand in the chemistry report first don't we Suga?"
"Oh, yeah, right... let's drop it off first and head over to class?" He doesn't seem as energetic as he was earlier.
"Okay. We'll see you there Mika!" you wave bye to your best friend.
"Kaaay, see you guys in a bit!" Mika runs to up the stairs, leaving you and Suga alone. It was strange seeing him silent for this long. You give the report to him and say,
"I've stapled it together so the pages wouldn't get lost. I hope that's okay."
"Nope, that's perfectly fine." he said in a solemn voice. He takes the report and slides it in the slot of the professor's door.
"Suga."
"Yes (F/N)?"
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"Oh, it's nothing you just seemed bothered by something."
You both silently go to your biology class as Mika is waving you down to sit next to her. As Suga takes a seat in front of you, you notice there was a boy sitting next to him. He turns around and greats you.
"Oh hello (F/N), I didn't know you'd be in this class. How are you feeling by the way?"
"Hey Daichi! I'm feeling much better now, thanks for asking."
I swear, I don't know why Daichi sounds so familiar to me.
"Oh and Mika's here too?" he flashes a bright smile at Mika.
"Sup Daichi." She greeted him with a peace sign.
Thats right! Kiyoko used to--
"Morning class! Lets take out our textbooks while I prepare for attendance shall we?" the teacher announced. Daichi continues to have a conversation with Suga as you stare at Daichi trying to figure it out...
OMG NO. THIS IS DAICHI?
Mika catches you staring intensely at Daichi. She elbows you in the arm and whispers,
"Dude, what is it?" You whisper into her ear and say,
"Daichi used to date my sister."

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
