《The Last Set || Sugawara x Reader ||》Clipped Crows

You stare at your best friend and you're super grateful you both entered Karasuno Highschool together. It's too bad you only have one class with her. You would've given up your advanced classes to be with Mika but you were just determined to get to college as fast as possible.
As your best friend sits beside you under the tree, you notice Mika's eyelashes were long, coated with mascara. You always envy Mika, but in an admiration kind of way. Mika was always class president and she was involved in several club activities. You characterized her as extroverted and you swear she could hold a conversation with anyone. Also, she's a badass who learned Judo since she was three and could practically take down any guy. It was kinda scary, but that's what you loved about Mika. She was fearless. She was practically your opposite but the one thing you both have in common was that you were both wing spikers back in middle school. She was left wing and you were the right. People called you guys 'the ying and yang' of the team. Both so different but you complement each other. This is why a lot of guys liked Mika. And you mean A LOT.
You glance upwards towards the leaves ruffling in the breeze. You grin, closing your eyes and leaning back your head on the tree trunk. You reminisce at the time in middle school you'd see a different boy almost every week, across the fence, asking Mika to date him. Another poor soul you though then. And every time a guy would come by her front doorstep, her raging brother would come stomping outside and drag the loser by the collar, throwing him out into the street. He enjoyed taking out the trash. Her brother was always overprotective of her, even till now. But recently he hasn't been around. You wonder why.

"Mitsuki-san" you say grabbing her attention. You never really call her by her surname unless it was serious.
Her head perked up from her half-eaten bento. "Wazup"
"Your brother, he's in a different school right?"
"Yeah" she says slurping up her yakisoba. "Why?"
"Even if he's in a different school, does he um... still live with you?" You stutter wondering if you overstepped. Mika usually didn't like talking about her family, but you knew she adored her brother.
"Yeah... he's living with Iwaizumi-san" she paused and took big gulps from her milk carton. She vacuumed the life out of the milk carton as the walls sunk inward, deforming it.
Oh right, she doesn't address him as 'Dad' anymore. He seemed to have lost that privilege.
"He's only there temporarily because Aobajohsai High is closer to where da-- I mean, Iwaizumi-san lives. I mean he's that good at volleyball, it was an obvious choice to go to that school. I've been giving him the cold shoulder lately because he's been using the 'Iwaizumi' surname at school." she said shaking her head.
I just realized 'Mitsuki' is her mother's last name. I was so used to calling her that after her parents divorced. She would practically punch people if she was addressed by 'Iwaizumi'. You shiver at the thought.
"He would've come to Karasuno if they weren't known as the 'clipped crows'." she said making air quotations when she said clipped crows.
"'Clipped Crows'?" you questioned.
I knew Karasuno was struggling but not this badly.
"Ya, you didn't know?" she said packing up her lunch box and letting out a relieved sigh. "Yum, that was good." She patted her belly, settling down the beast within her.
Man Mika eats a lot, maybe that's why she's so tall.

You spoke too soon as she rummages through her school bag pulling out a sweet bun. You stare at her astonished and she catches you staring.
"Wams sum?" She muffled, pulling out another bun from her bag and tossing it to you.
"Wait, so our volleyball team sucks here?" you say bluntly, taking a bite of the bun. Hmm, red bean my favourite.
"YUP. Unfortunately." Mika takes yet another big bite and gulfs it down.
"Can I ask you for a favour Mika" you say finishing the last bite of the bun. Gosh, when was the last time I ate?
"Nope." she lets out an evil laugh.
"HEY, I'm serious!" you laugh back punching her in the arm. She punches you back with twice the force. Ah that's going to leave a bruise. You rub your arm, trying to relieve the sore spot.
"Okay fineeee, what is it?" she asks curiously.
"Can you come with me after school to see the volleyball club?" you ask shyly fidgeting your fingers. It has been a long time since you've been involved with the sport or anything school related. Wake-up, school, work, home, sleep, & repeat is your usual rhythm. Mika makes a shocked face as she drops the remains of her bun on her lap. Her jaw drops to the floor.
"B-but you said it yourself? The team sucks!" she spattered out her words. It looked like you killed her. Mika suddenly took hold of both your shoulders and shook you violently.
"(F/N)!!! You finally want to join a club? You're going back to volleyball?!" she shouts still shaking your shoulders. I think I take back what I just said... Your head bobbing back and forth as you're tossed like a ragged doll.
"Heyyy let me finish!!" you exclaim trying to remove her firm hands. She stops shaking you and stops to look at you, her eyes bright as ever. You dust off your shoulders and take a deep breath.
"Even if they're called the 'clipped crows' now, that doesn't mean they can't change..." You hesitate to tell her the real reason why you have to go to that stupid club. You didn't want to break your best friend's spirits. You just want that fricken report. Stupid Suga.
"AH (F/N)! I'm so proud of you getting out of comfort zone! I really wanted to join something together since I only see you for one class!" you see happy tears in the corners of your best friend's face. Her smile was the widest it's ever been.
Crap. I'm lying to my best friend on the first day of school. Does bad luck just follow me everywhere, I swear.
The reason why Mika was so happy was that she knew it was hard for you to involve yourself in anything ever since that incident... She looks into your (e/c) eyes desperate to find the energetic middle school (F/N). She keeps looking for the old me, she's honestly wasting her time. But I'd never say that to her out loud. She'd kick the crap out of me.
Suddenly, the bell alarmed and swarms of students trickled inside the school. The last class of the day has finally come. You sigh to yourself. I am exhausted.
"I'm so happy (F/N)! We could practice spiking just like old tiiimesss!" Mika said in a sing-song tone while skipping back into the school.
Yup, just like old times.
