"How long do you think it'll take to get all your nerd books into boxes?" Chris not so casually questioned as he stood in my room looking at my bookshelf. This was one of his not so subtle hints about him wanting me to move to LA. The bookshelf he was looking at was actually the size of the wall and it was all filled. It had books, movies, pictures, candles, binders anything you could think of was on the shelf. I stood on the other side of the room fixing my dress. I smoothed down the black dress in the mirror. I put on my nice earrings and checked my make up.
"Not yet." I told him kissing his cheek. I walked downstairs and he followed me. I grabbed my purse and we walked out the door. We were running late thanks to yours truly. We were supposed to meet Chris' family for dinner. Like his whole family. I was a little intimidated. I've only had short conversations with them individually. I've never talked to them all in one place or for so long. But I was never one to back down from a challenge.
I was worried I had dressed up a bit to much. My dress was casual enough to be for everyday use but it was also dressy enough for a dinner with clients. It had sleeves and a v-neckline. The skirt of the dress wasn't tight, it flared out a bit. I wanted to look good, I wanted his family to like me. I know how important it was to Chris that we got along. I wanted to be someone he was proud of. I picked at the end of the dress in the car just for a distraction.
We parked at the fancy restaurant and Chris ran to the other side of the car just to get my car door. He opened it and smiled at me.
"You look beautiful Lucy." He complimented me taking my hand and kissing it. How did I get stuck with such a man? I was sure my face is red and I'm sure Chris was wallowing in his pride. He took my hand and I followed him into the restaurant. I took a deep breath before entering and walked in like I owned the place.
"You don't look to bad yourself Chris. I like the tie."
"Well you should because you picked it out."
His family was seated all ready but I was thankful their faces were still stuffed into the menu. That meant we weren't that late. They all stood and hugged Chris. His brother Scott shook my hand along with his sister Carly and Shana. His mom took me in for a nice hug. His dad shook my hand and we all took a seat. The waiter asked what I wanted and I almost answered a bottle of wine, but I went with water instead.
The conversation started slowly. Chris was the subject of the conversation so all I had to do was to play the supportive girlfriend, which I could play. His family already knew my job somewhat. But they asked about it anyway in search of a good conversation. And I tried to give them just that. I told them about Danny and how he thought the national mall was an actual mall. The story got some laughs, which made me feel good. My nervousness seemed to slowly wash away with time. I slowly became more myself as dinner went on.

I started to some crazy travel stories I had, when Carly mentioned that she had found bed bugs in her hotel one night. I told her about the time I found them in Germany, but couldn't explain to the hotel manager, so I had to catch one. Chris' father, Chris and I had a nice conversation about politics, and the crazy election going on. With Shana and Scott I spit out some random movie and music trivia I knew.
By the end of the night I had surprisingly charmed my way into the family. I got multiple hugs before leaving the restaurant. Chris beamed at me as we walked back to his car. I took a deep breath into his car and took down my hair and took off my shoes.
"Well I think that was a success! I think they like me."
"I think they love you"
"Well that's good, I was nervous"
"What do you want to do for the next hour or so?" I asked Chris. He had a flight home in four hours.
"Oh I don't know? Want some ice cream?"
"Is that even a question?" We stopped at Cold Stone for awhile. I walked into the store barefoot, since we were the only ones in the store. I ordered my usual order; vanilla chocolate chip cookie dough. We sat outside on the curb.
"Remind me why we can't sit on the seats inside?" Chris asked me
"It's to cold in there. I would freeze to death."
"I didn't think it was that cold."
"You're a mini heater Chris. Like you are so hot you warm up a room."
"Why thank you." Chris said wiggling his eyebrow. I gave him a small shove and rolled my eyes.
"So where are you going this week?" Chris asked me. He was playing with his ice cream more than eating it.
"Oklahoma. You know where I want to go?"
"Last I heard it was Cambodia."
"Prince Edward Island."
"Where's that?"
"Canada?"
"Why do you want to go there?"
"Last week I got the itch to re-read one of my favorite book series, Anne of Green Gables. The book takes place there, and it just sounds so beautiful."
"Maybe we'll go someday."
"How about two months from now?"
"I have the a premiere in two months. Speaking of that, will you be my date?"
"Whoa. Like red carpet premiere?"
"There will be a red carpet."
"That means I have to dress up..."
"You're dressed up now"
"And it's uncomfortable."
"You don't have to dress up, I don't care"
"No! I don't want to look stupid! You'll be looking good and I'll be looking stupid. It's fine I'll just buy a new dress. I need one anyway."
"So that's a yes?"
"Yes, it's a yes." The idea of bright lights, and pictures, and important people made my stomach queasy. I did not want to go in the slightest, but I could tell Chris wanted me to go. I think if it came down to it, I would jump off a cliff for the man. So, wearing a dress, make up and heels while getting my picture taken hundreds of times was something I could do.

We finished up our ice cream and talked some more about whatever came to our heads. I drove Chris to the airport and gave him a big good bye kiss.
"I'll see you in a couple weeks." I promised him and he nodded smiling at me.
"I'll miss you." He told me making me blush. He looked at me taking in the fact he can make me blush with only a couple words.
"Bye Chris."
"Bye sweetheart. I love you."
"Love ya too." I said giving him a kiss on the cheek. He existed the car and made his way through the automatic doors that sallowed him.
I had been to LA a couple times since that night. Whitney and I had been working on opening another Jones Studio in LA. She was really surprised and excited that I wanted to do this. She gushed about how much this will mean to Chris, and how big step of a step it was. I knew it was, but I wasn't scared. I didn't feel the need to even give this a second thought. I knew my place was with him. I offered the opportunity to a couple of my employees to see if they wanted to make the big move with me. As I expected, only a few thought about going. I ended up having to put out applications for every position.
"You're going to have to find a new me!" Whitney cried getting a little misty at the idea of us not seeing each other everyday. Shiny tears appeared in her big brown eyes.
"You're going to have to find a new you too!" I told her.
"I'm going to miss you" Whitney said.
"I'm going to miss you too." I hugged her tightly.
"But I think you're doing the right thing."
"Me too. I think he's the one, Whit."
"I knew it! I knew it! Trevor owes me $20! " She shouted standing up and pointing at me. I laughed at her and the idea of not seeing her resonated deep inside of me. I will miss her so much.
By the end of the month I fly to LA to visit Chris. It was a bit of a surprise, I never told him I was coming down this week.
"Chris!" I called from standing in the doorway.
"In here!" He answered from his office. I walked to the door way not bothering to close the front door. I stood in the door way of his office.
"What are you doing here?" He asked smiling at me. He had a script in his hand that he was reading.
"I thought I'd surprise you. I want to show you something." I told him nodding my head towards the door.
"Am I going to like this surprise?" He asked getting up from his chair. He sweetly kissed my forehead when he walked past me.
"Well we're going to have to drive there."
"Okay" he agreed skeptically. He gave me a quick kiss and we headed out to the car. I pull out of the long drive way and hit the highway. We passed a couple exit signs and headed deeper into LA. We were about twenty minutes from his house when I pulled up to an office building that was at least twenty stories high.
"What are we doing here?"
"You'll see." He followed me into the elevator of the building. I pressed the number nine. My heart hammered as the elevator doors closed.
"You're taking me to get my taxes done?" He squinted reading the directory.
"No silly" I replied and the elevator doors opened and we were faced with a huge empty floor. It was extremely bare with white walls, and large windows that show the LA city. A few cubicles were left and some random paper.
"Like it!?" I asked smiling at him.
"Sure? It's nice, for uhhh..."
"Jones' Studio in LA. I'm opening a permanent office here Chris. This is my floor." I looked at him to gauge his reaction. His head snapped my way and his smile took up his whole face.
"No it's not!" He yelled excitedly. He looked like a little kid that just got told they are going to Disney.
"Yeah, how do you like the idea of me moving to LA?" I asked smiling with him.
"I love the idea. Wish I thought of it." He shouted making me laugh. He pulled me close by the waist until he was hugging my body. He took his finger and lifted my chin up and met my lips with his. He held me in his arms kissing me senseless.
"I love you so much Luce. Thank you." he said kissing my forehead.
"You're worth it" I whispered so quietly I didn't think he heard until I saw the smile on his face.
