《On Set》15

Chris parked the car alongside the curb. This was good bye. My stomach felt empty, and my heart felt shallow and weak. It felt like it was paper thin, barely hanging on. I didn't know what to say. I'll see you, soon? Couldn't promise that. Good-bye? That was too little, it wasn't enough. Until next time? How old was I? Hasta Luego? Does he speak Spanish?
This time the silence was sickening. It wasn't comfortable at all. I sat frozen in the car, staring straight ahead, while he stared at me.
"We'll figure this out okay?" He promised taking my hand.
"I know." I sighed turning to him. Either way we'll figure out what we're supposed to be.
I leaned forward and set a hand on his cheek. "Bye Chris," was all I could say. It wasn't enough, but that's all I could give. He leaned foreword and gave me the sweetest kiss, which I happily returned.
"I'll see you soon." Chris said.
"Yeah, of course." I replied hopping out of the car. I grabbed my stuff and waved goodbye. He didn't drive away until I was inside the airport.
It had been about a month since I last saw Chris. No, I hadn't told Whitney, or Crystal. I don't know why, part of me wanted to spill it all. I wanted to tell them, how good it felt to be kissed by him, and to kiss him. I wanted to talk about his favorite show, his weird favorite foods, and all his weird, funny quirks. I wanted to talk about how much I missed him, and how scared I was. I guess I just wanted to keep this a secret a little longer, to enjoy the sweetness and beauty of it all just a little longer.
I had been putting in hours, after hours, on my latest projects with Sony. I had meetings, and training sessions I had attended and ran though out the last couple weeks. Since I had gotten back, I worked everyday. I talked to Chris when I could, sometimes it was late at night and I was up all night, or sometimes we just talked to each other on the car ride to work.
"You look like you haven't slept in over thirty years." Whitney commented as I dragged my sorry ass to work.
"At least the bags under my eyes, match my shirt."
"You need to take a vacation."
"Next week," I promised her that last week too.
"How about this weekend."
"Don't tempt me, the big Sony meeting is on Monday anyway."

"Leave today and come back on Sunday!"
"Yeah, that'll be a hell no."
"Come on you know you want to go, you know you do" Whitney teased bringing a smile to my face.
"Yeah, I do want to go. But I can't just go and do whatever I want, whenever I want. That is not how the world works."
"Can I take the next few days off, and be back on Monday?"
"What? Sure, I guess...why did you ask that now?"
"To show you how easy it was to leave work."
"I'm the boss though, I need to be here!"
"Do you Lucy? Do you really need to be here?"
"Yes! Whitney! You're killing me!"
"I know, but I was serious about those days off, you think you could survive?"
"I'll be fine, have fun doing whatever you're up to."
"I usually bring the fun along with me." Whitney said, and don't I know it.
The week went by slowly and stressfully . I had three sets to build and design. The designs were due Monday with concept art. Needless to say, I was pushing my design team. My name was set as the head designer since I started all the rough drafts, and over saw each change. Sunday rolled around and I sat in my office preparing the presentation.
Monday swung by, and the meeting was a success. Sony liked the design ideas and concepts. They wanted to start building immediately, and I told them to give me two and a half weeks to have what they needed. I gave some crew members a notice about the set, and I set up their travel tickets to Europe, where they were filming. In about a week I had the materials we needed ready to be delivered on time. It took some arm twisting to get what we needed, but I ended up on top. We were still editing drafts, but they were pretty much ready. In fourteen days I had a full crew, and supplies ready for Europe.
"Whitney, I'm taking off for a long weekend. Call me if I'm needed." I called out walking out of the office Thursday.
"Finally!" She yelled victorious. "Where ya headed?"
"Cleveland of all places. Gonna say hi to my family."
"Hmm, wasn't Chris down there too?!"
"So what if he happens to be there?"
"So what huh," she repeated catching my smile and returning it.
"Give him a big kiss for me!" She called out after me. I stuffed clothes and everything I could possibly need in a suitcase and went to sleep excited. I woke up bright and early and got on my flight home.

When I landed, I took a cab to his hotel and dropped my stuff there. Chris was on set working, they only had a couple days left here. When I left, they would take their show on the road to LA. I walked on set and wondered towards the action of it all. My heart was beating out of my chest I was so excited. I was grossly excited, but also slightly worried he wasn't as excited to see me. Thankfully nothing had changed or shifted in our relationship, but what if this was more one sided? I folded my arms and awkwardly made my way towards the actors. I stood there by his chair scanning the room for him. He was in a big red, white and blue outfit so how could I not see him? The crowd shifted and turned and I saw him. He was laughing with Sebastian, he seemed unaware of the world around him. You know how you always just seem to know when someone is looking at you, well I guess Chris felt that. He eyes fell on me and he smiled widely. He said something to Sebastian before walking my way. I tried to keep my cool and just smile at him. I wanted to run and tackle him like those Nicholas Spark movies. Instead I planted my feet and took a breath.
Once he reached me, he said nothing, but crashed our lips together. It felt good to be in his embrace again and to feel his soft lips against mine.
"I missed you."
"I missed you too, Chris." I told him before stealing a quick kiss. He held me by my waist and kept me close for another minute or two. His forehead touched mine and we just smiled to each other. It just felt good to be with him. Everything seemed simple. It was calming, I was happy, a little less stressed. I was so happy when I was with him.
"Ohh Chris' girl is back in town." A loud voice boomed making us laugh. I peeked over Chris' shoulder seeing Mackie and Sebastian walk up.
"You guys gonna make out behind my trailer again?" Mackie asked making me blush. "Because you can only do that if I join"
"Eww" I said scrunching my nose.
"I was joking, what kind of person do you think I am?!"
"Well I thought you were a normal person, but...I've just been proven wrong." I joked teasing him. Sebastian just laughed and Mackie grinned at me.
"I'm going to let you have that one."
"Why would you assume you have the upper hand here?"
"Oh my god." Sebastian said laughing
"Hey, Seb do me a favor and shut the hell up. Oh my god Lucy, you've melted Captain Tiny Ass into puppy eyes. Do you not see the way that man is dooling?!" Mackie pointed out Chris who turned before I saw him. He was laughing and blushing at the same time. Pretty soon they were pulled back to work and I left to attend to some of my own.
It was dark when Chris made it back to the hotel. We had room service and watched The Pursuit of Happiness. I loved that movie.
"Isn't amazing, you mean that much to someone?" I commented to Chris as we watched little Jaden Smith snuggle his Captain America doll. Chris had an arm wrapped around me as he sat on the couch.
"Yeah it is. But it's scary you know? I don't want to come short of being that hero."
"I don't think you do. But whenever you think something like that just remember the best we can ever do is our best. You can only be the best you. So if you're doing the best you can, then you're the best Captain America there is."
"But what if there's someone better."
"There's always someone better, but did they get the job? No. They are irrelevant, the only person you can worry about is you."
"When did you get so wise?"
"Maybe I'm 100 years old?"
"You look pretty good then."
"You think?"
"Yeah I do." He told me kissing me.
"Are you going to eat that?" I asked pointing at his potato chips.
"No, you can have them." He chuckled pushing them my way. It was late when we finally went to bed. I took off my sweatshirt and snuggled into the bed with Chris.
"You have a tattoo?" He asked surprised touching my back loosely covered by a tank top. I felt his hand skim the top of my back.
"Got a couple." I mumbled into the pillow.
"Can I see them?"
"Later. I tell you about them later. One's got a long story with it." I didn't really feel like sharing it with him either.
"Okay, I'll hold you to it."
"Night"
"Good night Lucy"
