《Midnight Falls》Chapter Fifty Seven

"h, right, I need to tell you something. I need to tell you something," Noah keeps repeating the same sentence over and over in excitement. I'm currently facetiming him since it has been awhile since I last contacted him.
"Just tell me already!" I practically scream at him.
"Alright, alright," then he takes a deep breath. "I got in Sapienza!"
"No way!" I tell him with wide eyes.
"Hell yeah!" He exclaims. "The tuition fees were a bitch but I already paid them. Kinda took me awhile to get all of that money."
"I am proud of you, ugly," I say, placing my hand on my chest.
"Thanks, loser," he grins. "What about you?"
"I got in Melbourne," I reply, smiling.
"Holy damn, you're coming here!"
"Yes! It will be so amazing to go home again," I grin.
"Is Luke going with you?" He questions, pulling out a bag of crisps. No surprise there, Noah is always eating.
"He is. I'm so excited for him to see where I grew up," I smile widely.
"Aww. You guys are so adorable, it's sickening. Please stop talking," he grimaces and I roll my eyes at him. My phone starts ringing and I look at the caller ID to see it's Luke.
"Speak of the devil," I pick up the phone. "I will talk to you later, ugly."
"You're ugly," he mumbles, eating the crisps and disconnecting the call.
"Hey," I answer the phone.
"Hey, Cherries," Luke says in his usual happy voice whenever I call him, but this time is different. It seems like he's forcing the happy voice.
"What's up?"
"Can you come over? I need to tell you something," he asks.
"Yeah, sure. Give me five minutes," I answer, getting off of the bed and placing my laptop on the desk.
"Alright. See you. Bye," he says.
"Bye," I say in a sing-song voice, then I hang up.
I look at myself in the mirror. I'm wearing one of Luke's shirts that I borrowed (not stole, I totally didn't steal. I just borrowed it...never to return it again. Totally not stealing) and a pair of shorts since I realized that Luke's clothes aren't oversized on me so I have to wear something underneath.
I decide to wear a pair of sweatpants instead of the shorts since I wasn't about to go in the streets for two seconds with exposed thighs. Pretty reasonable. After I finish putting on my pants, I grab my phone and go downstairs.
"Where are you going?" Cameron asks, walking out of the kitchen.
"To Luke's," I reply.
"Why?"
"He wants to talk about something."
"Sounds like a code name for sex," he comments.
"It's not a code for that. We just started dating. Nothing's going to happen now. We are just going to talk," I explain to him.
"I don't know, pretty sure it sounds like a code for sex," he insists.
"It's not a code for doing it. We just started dating for God's sake. I wouldn't even do anything," I tell him.
He stares at me for awhile before he sighs. "Fine."
"Thank you." Just as I'm about to turn around and leave, Josh comes downstairs.
"Whoa, whoa, where are you going?" He questions.
"Luke's," I reply drily.
"Why?"
"He wants to talk about something."
"Sounds like a code name for sex," he says.

"I know right, totally sounds like a code name for sex," Cameron agrees, nodding.
"It's not a code name for anything. We are going to talk. We just started dating like a month ago. We are not going to do anything," I explain carefully like I'm talking to a child.
He stares at me for awhile before he sighs. "Fine."
"Thank you," I repeat and then Liam comes downstairs also and I groan.
"Hey-"
"Before you say anything, I'm going to Luke's. He wants to talk about something. No, we're not going to be doing anything. We just started dating," I tell him.
"Uhh, okay? Thank you for informing me that my seventeen-year-old sister is not going to be having sex with her boyfriend when I definitely didn't ask about it," Liam furrows his eyebrows in confusion.
"Wait, what were you going to say then?" I question.
"Mum said that you are going to make dinner," he grins.
"Okay, I will," I throw my hands in the air exasperatedly, then I stand there waiting for my fourth brother to show up.
"What are you waiting for?" Cameron asks.
"Cole," I sigh and Cole comes downstairs.
"Hey, where are you going?" Cole asks, smiling.
"Luke's," I answer with a bored tone.
"Alright, cool. Have fun," he smiles at me.
"That's it? You're not going to tell me why? And if talking about something is a code name for having sex?" I ask with a raised eyebrow.
"No?" Cole answers hesitantly. "I trust you with Luke. He's a good guy. I know he won't do anything that you won't like. Besides, you guys just started dating. Why would you have sex that early?"
"Finally, thank you," I say in a pleased tone. "Now, that's a smart person. Learn from him, people."
"Did you just say we're dumb?" Josh asks.
"Pretty sure you just said we're dumb," Cameron says.
"Yes, you are," I roll my eyes. "I will be back in God knows how much time. If any of you are going out, close the door behind you properly."
"You should take your own advice," Liam says.
"What? No, I don't, I did that like once or–you know what? Whatever," I fail at defending myself. "I'm going now. Bye."
I open the door and head outside, making sure the door slams behind me. I walk over to Luke's house and ring the doorbell, then I wait a couple of seconds before the door opens and Luna appears on the other side of it.
"Hey," she smiles at me. "Come in."
"Hi, how are you doing?" I step in the house and hug her.
"I'm fine," she hugs me back and pulls away to close the door. "How are you?"
"Great," I smile.
"Luke's upstairs."
"Thanks, Lu," I tell her, then I go upstairs to Luke's room and knock on the door.
"Come in," I hear him say and I open the door, peeking my head inside.
"Hey," I grin.
"Hi," he smiles at me and I walk inside the room, closing the door behind me. He kisses me gently and I kiss him back, then I pull away and sit on his bed.
"What's up?" I cross my legs and place my elbows on them, leaning on my hands and smiling.
His smile disappears and he clears his throat. "I'm going to Sapienza."
Just like that, I feel my heart just took a huge leap and dropped to my shoes. My smile fades off as well and I drop my hands in my lap. "What?"

"Look," he pauses and grabs a chair, setting it down in front of me and straddling it to face me. "I've been thinking about what you said and I really want to go to Rome, it has been my dream university since mom told me about it and I want to go."
"I-I don't get it. I thought you wanted to go to Melbourne with me," I frown in confusion.
"I know, but this means a lot to me, Cherries and I think it might help us later on. Rome offers a lot of careers after college. It would be a hell of a great help," he explains with a hopeful look on his face.
"What about our relationship? Doesn't it mean anything to you?" I stand up and cross my arms, walking around the chair to face him properly.
"Our relationship means a lot to me, Anna. You mean everything to me," he stands up as well and holds my hands. "Besides, we can do the distance. It's not that hard."
"Luke, that is never going to work," I take my hands out of his. "Long distance relationships never work. It's all just a bunch of fantasy bull crap!" I practically yell.
"Clara and Aaron are doing it. We can do it too," he says softly, still remaining calm. The complete opposite of how I am.
"Clara and Aaron are in love and they're expecting a baby. They have to do it."
"What's wrong with us trying, Anna?"
"It's never going to work. I don't want that! I don't want a long distance relationship!"
He furrows his eyebrows. "You don't trust me, do you?"
"What?"
"You don't fucking trust me, Anna. That's why you don't want to do this. You think I'm going to cheat on you."
"What are you talking about? Of course, I trust you!"
"If you did, you would be happy for me right now. You wouldn't be so damn against me for God knows what. You wouldn't be so fucking stressed out like you are right now."
"You are being selfish," I tell him honestly and calmly. "If you cared about this relationship, you wouldn't have accepted Rome."
"I'm being selfish? What about you?" He raises an eyebrow. "I'm pretty sure you're the one being selfish."
I feel the back of my eyes burning and my throat having this stupid lump in it. "Stop it," I say in a low voice.
"All you give a damn about is how it makes you happy. And you don't give a fuck about how this is a great opportunity to me. You just care about the fact that you're happy and you don't care about what makes me happy," he says in a firm voice that makes me too scared to answer.
"Luke, stop," I mumble out, feeling the tears already running down my cheeks. Ugh, this is not supposed to happen. I'm not supposed to cry.
"Do you even care about what I want, Anna? Or is your own damn happiness blinding you from seeing what others really want?"
I wipe my tears with the shirt's sleeve before I storm out of the room and go downstairs.
I open the front door and get out of the house, then I close it behind me and head over to my home. I ring the doorbell, expecting one of my brothers to open up, but they just chose the exact thirty minutes I decided to get out of the house to go out.
Crouching down, I grab the spare key from under the garden gnome and open the door, then I place it under the gnome again and go inside, before slamming the door behind me.
I head up to my room immediately and close the door, startling Molly who was sleeping on the floor peacefully. I throw myself on the bed and hold Mr. Snuggles Jr. close to me, the tears running down my cheeks like a waterfall.
I hear the tiny paws of Molly and her getting on the bed, then she nudges my arm and whines. I look down at her and wipe my eyes, smiling when I find her cuddled up next to me.
"Hey, baby," I sniff, scratching her head. She whines again and nudges my arm with her nose.
"I'm okay. Just a small fight with Luke," I lie, smiling.
I really want to talk to someone about this.
Then the perfect person comes to my mind.

"Sooo, you guys fought because he wants to follow his dream and go to Rome, but you want him to go to Melbourne with you because you're scared of losing him?" Jennie sums up the entire argument.
"Yeah, basically," I shrug, adjusting the laptop screen so I can see her properly.
"Why are you scared of losing him?" She tilts her head.
"Because he's far away and the long distance might pull us apart from each other," I explain.
"How so?"
I think about it for awhile and I come up with no answer. "I don't know," I sigh.
"You're scared that Luke might find someone else there and he might fall in love with her and break up with you because of it, right?"
"I mean...yeah," I answer and Jennie sighs. "He's going to his home country. How do I know that he might not meet up with an old friend of his and catch up with her, only for it to end with them liking each other?"
"You see, that's why Luke was mad, Anna. You don't put your trust in him. You have to trust him. Luke clearly likes you and it won't take him that long for him to fall in love with you. You have to trust the fact that he only got eyes for you," Jennie explains softly. "Besides, do you think that was easy for him? You're also going to your home country, he might be worried as hell because the same thing might happen with you."
"What? That's never going to happen. I really like Luke and he knows that nothing can–oh," I realize.
"Exactly. He puts a lot of his trust in you and he is worried too, but he also wants to do what he have always wanted. You should be happy for him because he clearly cares about you a lot. If he didn't, he wouldn't propose the idea of the long distance relationship or how Rome might offer him a guaranteed job after he's done with college. I was surprised when you told me he was actually willing to do a long distance thing. It means that you really mean a lot to him."
"So, I screwed up?" I sigh, rubbing my face.
"No, you both did. You screwed up because you proved to Luke that you don't trust him while he called you selfish when you were just looking out for your relationship. And that's okay. College discussions are a normal thing in any relationship," she shrugs and smiles.
"So, now what?"
"Now, you guys need to talk about this and discuss what is going to happen with you. And I swear to God, if you don't fix this shit up and batch up your damn relationship, I will personally come to America and whoop both of your asses. I can still be the bitch I once was." she narrows her eyes at me.
"Okay, okay," I laugh.
"And if that dipshit makes you cry again, call me up, I will also come and whoop his ass."
"Thanks, Jen," I smile at her.
"Anytime, Lyn. We're friends now. You can always come to me," she smiles back. "You're now one of my bitches. That's a great role in my amazing life."
"Totally," I agree in this high-pitched voice and we both laugh. My phone starts ringing and I look down to see mum calling.
"I will have to call you later, Jen. Mum is calling me," I tell her, picking up my phone.
"Alright," she grins. "Talk to you later."
"Bye," I tell her, waving and she salutes me before she disconnects the video call.
I answer the phone. "Hello?"
"Honey, please come to the hospital quickly," my mother cries.
"Mum, what's wrong?" I immediately jump off of the bed, my heart beating loud.
"It's your father. He's in the hospital," she sobs on the phone and that all it takes for me to hang up and run downstairs, then put my shoes on before I run out of the house and to the hospital.
