"and till this day, i've felt really strongly about my brother's story, which is why i'm here today. but before i end this official publication ceremony, i have a few words to share," jaesung muses as he stands up and clears his throat.
"so jaehyun, if you're listening to me right now, i just wanted to say, i'm sorry. i'm sorry that i've left you with all the dirty work, while i was here pursuing what i love. writing. i didn't even give you a chance to pursue everything, and that haunts me till this day.
"but i'm happy — happy that you all are finally at ease. you, mom and dad. you all are finally happy. and i'll join you soon, don't worry.
"and to yujin, i've never gotten to know you personally, but i just wanted to say thank you. thank you for making my brother happy, and loved. i'm sorry for all the hardships you had to go through, you really did not deserve it.
"i found out about yours and my brothers' story when i came back from the states. i asked the neighhbours why the house was vacant, and they told me that our mother had passed away.
"i went to the cemetry and found my mother's gravetsone, along with two letters. i read them both, and i just..." jaesung finds himself choking up and he looks up, blinking the tears away.
"your letters moved me so so much. just from those two letters, i could see how much love you both had for one another.
"and it really inspired me to write this book. and i don't want this to come off as me using your story as a success stunt.
"i wrote this book as a tribute for you both. a tribute to two very broken people, coming together and hold the ability to mend each others' hearts, even when theirs weren't. you both put each other both before yourselves, and that is something that i have learnt.

"i hope you both are happy together up there, in each others' arms, giving each other the love and warmth that you both deserve no less of. wait for me — when i come back, i'll come back and give a face-to-face apology for all that you have gone through, jaehyun.
"i love you, mom and dad. and i love you, little bro. thank you for all that you have done. this one is for the three of you, and a very special girl named yujin."
"and with that, i officially publish my book, she's in the rain."
jaesung puts down the mic and takes a bow, allowing the tears to finally escape from his eyes. his heart's burden was finally lifted.
and beyond all the cheers, claps and standing ovations received, jaesung smiles as he closes his eyes, and sees the only people that mattered — his parents, jaehyun, and yujin — all clapping for him as well.
and as jaesung comes back up and looks across at his book cover, he can't help but clap as well. not for himself, but for his family.

Meaning: The End of the Starless Century
Magic was once a reality of everyday life, shaping the lives of the gifted and ungifted alike since the dawn of humanity. That all changed in the fires of World War I. Seeking to avoid catastrophe, humanity’s leaders enacted the Masquerade Order and segregated the magical community while also forming The Congregation to enforce the separation. As time passed, the awesome power of magic was forgotten by the world outside. This held true for a little over a century, but things begin to change when three individuals intersect in the peaceful town of Ithaca, New York. Noelle Sellers, a newly minted policewoman searching for her place in the world. Levi Wright, a mage living in Ithaca who is far more than he lets on. Lorelei Himmel, a juvenile witch in hiding out of fear of what people would do to her, and what she may do to them. As forces slithering in the darkness emerge from the murky depths of the world, the timeless battle for magic and for the future itself begins once again. The demon whispers inside Jack’s mind. “They are not worthy, they are cattle, these new humans you covet. The so-called creator has betrayed you, replaced you with these organic imitations. Slaughter them all.” It’s funny, not in a ha-ha funny way, but a sad, my madness doesn’t make sense type of way, Jack thinks, because wasn’t he human? Worse still, the voice comes with impulses that are hard to resist. Violence usually ensues. That’s why he joined the military. A way to channel his urges into mind-numbing physical effort and war. It works for a time. But alcohol and fighting can only carry on for so long. Finally, he realizes, his only way out is suicide. But when he opens his eyes, he’s in the In-Between. The creator has other plans for him, and she won’t take no for an answer. Apparently, this isn’t his first life and if he doesn’t free her from her prison, it won’t be his last. His curse is to be reborn without end, without rest, without memory. Only madness. Now Jack is on the run from forces he doesn’t understand. It’s a new world. The mundane replaced by ethereal artificial intelligence, spontaneous virtual realities, and homicidal bible salesmen. But the creator promises the demon’s voice will disappear as soon as he finds the right girl, the right bond. After that, they just have to escape the clutches of those who hunt them, find the Isle of Song, and free the creator from her prison. Or maybe this time, in this life, Jack will figure out what true freedom is. Come along on this action-packed thriller as Jack fights to remember who he is, tries to end an eternal war, and atone for sins he doesn’t remember…yet.
