《You're Not My Boss // Jaehyun Mafia FF》➸CHP 4

"J-Jaehyun?", I walked into Jaehyun's room, seeing him in bed.
I knew he'd be sleeping. It was four in the morning.
Why was I trying to wake him up at four in the morning?
Someone was breaking in.
A few minutes ago, I heard noises outside and saw someone in the lawn when I looked out my window.
I wanted to go handle this with Miyoung...but Miyoung wasn't there.
For some reason, I decided to tell Jaehyun what was happening. I have no idea why. I just did.
"Jaehyun?", I took a step closer to him.
I put my hand on his arm and shook him a bit.
"Jaehyun, wake up"
"What's up?", he turned and looked at me.
"You idiot", I whispered, "Someone's trying to get in."
He sat up and stared at me with his tired eyes.
"Are they armed?", he asked.
"Yeah"
He ran his hand through his hair and pursed his lips. I waited for him to say something.
"Alright", he focused, "I need you to go pack a bag with the stuff you need, ok? After we take care of these people then we're making a run for it"
"What?"
"Stop asking questions, just go do it."
I nodded slowly.
When I was back in my room, I just scrambled through all my stuff, throwing the most random things in an old tote bag. I picked up a pair of sweat pants, over sized t-shirts, a hoodie, and a whole bunch of random mismatched socks. I could care less about my clothes. I thought more about ways to defend myself when things were to happen.
I heard Jaehyun walk over to my room.
"Are they inside yet?", I asked him.
"No. It looks like they've found a way to get in through the back door, though"
I threw my backpack over my shoulder and held my gun at my side. I couldn't put my gun in a holster because I still had my PJs on; some shorts and a loose crop top.
"You ready?", Jaehyun asked. He had a backpack on, too.
I just nodded and followed him down the stairs.
"It shouldn't take any longer than twenty minutes"
I opened my mouth to ask him a question, but he stopped me by putting his finger over my lips.
"Shh", he said, "They're inside."
He raised his gun.

I held my breath.
Jaehyun fired a shot and lowered his gun.
"Lets go", he turned around to leave the house.
Bam!
I felt something hit my side. It took me out cold. The last thing I remembered was seeing the floor hit my face.
Everything went dark.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up in some unfamiliar room, but I wasn't able to look around properly. My vision was completely blurred, and the room seemed to spin ever time I opened my eyes. Even when my eyes were closed, I felt my head throb and my body ache every time I made the smallest movement.
The only thing I could "see" in that room was that it was dark. I thought it could still be that same night that Jaehyun and I left my house, but the alarm placed next to the bed I was on said that it was 11:00 PM the following night.
I saw the outline of my backpack on a chair in a corner of the room, and one of my bigger guns placed next to it.
But where the hell was I?
I felt an uneasiness in my stomach. It was still possible that Jaehyun lied to me and used my dad's files to pull me into a trap.
I forced myself to sit up. I immediately felt a flash of pain in my side that made me want to scream. I slowly placed my hand on the side of my stomach.
It was completely wrapped in thick bandaging, and I could see a big bloodstain on it. The pain I felt made me break a sweat and my head seemed to spin even more.
But even though I was in a lot of pain, I had to find out where I was.
I forced myself on my feet, grabbed my hand gun and limped to the door.
The door was unlocked.
I cracked the door open and peaked outside of it.
No one. It was clear.
The room I was in turned out to be on a second floor and lead out to a loft which overlooked a living room on one side and an open entry way on the other side. The house I was in was large and had high ceilings.
"H-Hyuna?", a voice behind me asked.
My heart stopped and I froze where I was standing.
"Hyuna, it ok", the voice chuckled, "I'm with Jaehyun"
"That doesn't mean anything.", I turned around slowly,"If you're with Jaehyun, that just means that you're a killer or drug dealer"
"I'm both.", I saw the dark figure walk into the moonlight, "But I promise I won't hurt you"
"That's what they all say"
I saw the face of a kid who looked to be my age. Even though he was a killer, he had friendly eyes and a cute face.
He held out his handles as I put put my gun back at my side, "I'm Mark Lee. It sounds like you've already read my profile, so that saves some time"
I nodded. The pain in my side grew, so I braced myself to the railing, trying my hardest to take calm, deep breaths.
"What are you even doing out of bed? I surprised you're even alive with the kind of hold you've got in your side"
He held my arm and helped me back to my room.
"Mark", I said, "Could you just tell me where I am please"
"You're in the NCT headquarters' guest bedroom.", he stopped, "Don't worry, Jaehyun-hyung told us not to hurt you"
The pain from my wound throbbed again.
"Look", Mark said, "you need to rest. I promise none of us will hurt you"
"Yeah right"
He let out a quiet laugh and left my room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Whoa. That's her? She looks like a-"
I opened one of my eyes after hearing more unfamiliar voices.
"Chenle, shut up! She's awake", a taller kid said.
There were two teenagers that took a step into my room.
"Umm..hi, I'm Park Jisung and this is my buddy, Zhong Chenle"
"What do you want?", I glared at them as I sat up.
"Uh..", Chenle scratched the back of his head, "Jaehyun-hyung told us to ask you if you needed anything"
"Is that everything?", I said.
"Uh...Uh-huh", Jisung said. The two of them just kept staring at me.
I started to get out of my bed, but stopped when I saw that Jisung and Chenle were still staring at me.
"Ok, what do you want?", I said.
"Jisung-ah! Chenle! Leave Hyuna alone!", someone shouted. The two kids left the room.
Once they shut the door, I looked back at the floor and sighed.
I heard another knock on the door, "Hyuna?"
"What do you wa-", the words stopped coming out of my mouth when I saw Jaehyun standing in the doorway.
I watched him as he stepped inside the room.
"Feeling better?", he asked.
"Y-Yeah", I replied shyly. That was the first nice thing I've ever heard him ask me.
"Alright well, breakfast is ready downstairs if you're able to get down there. If not, we can bring food up here for you"
I slowly stood up, squinting a little since I was still hurting.
"I've been in here for too long"
Jaehyun just watched me with a raised eyebrow as I limped to the door.
"Umm, we'll just bring breakfast up"
"Oh shut the hell up"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm Taeyong", a guy said as he put a plate front of me.
"You know my name already, so...", I said.
I tucked my hair behind my ear and started eating.
Taeyong sat in the chair next to me. "So...are you still hurting pretty bad?"
"Nah, I'm feeling better"
"You know if it wasn't for us, you'd be dead right now."
"Or kidnapped.", I glared, "Don't make yourselves out to be heroes, because you're just another dumbass mafia"
I continued to eat my food.
"Told you she was mouthy!", Jaehyun shouted from the living room.
"Whatever", Taeyong said, leaving the table.
Once he was gone, I reached for a piece of paper I spotted on the table.
"That's what we got before I was hired to watch you and Miyoung", Jaehyun walked over to the table I was eating at in the kitchen. I knew he was there, but I didn't acknowledge his presence.
"So there really is a warrant out there for me", I stared blankly at the paper in front of me.
Jaehyun took the warrant from me and looked at it himself.
"Yeah...and if you do anything stupid, I'll turn you in"
I stared back at my plate.
Jaehyun was right. I was the one at the disadvantage here. Since I was so desperate to leave my dad, I followed some murderer to a house with even more killers. Some of them were even worse than him according to their profiles.
But I had to put trust into them, it was the only choice I had.
"Don't worry, Hyuna", Jaehyun put a hand on my shoulder which surprised me a little bit, "We're gonna get you out of this mess".
Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.
