《Soft Hawks X Reader Shorts》A Rainy Day

A knock on your door made you jump in your cozy spot on the couch. You checked the time and you definitely weren't expecting anyone at this time. Although, you were expecting Hawks to fly in through the window later today, but the heavy rain outside suggested otherwise.

You got up from the couch and to the front door. You opened the door to see Hawks drenched from head to toe. Beneath his feet was a puddle of rain water that drowned your poor carpet. Hawks' hair was slicked back and flat against his head and his clothes clung to his skin.

"Good afternoon, Lovebird... may I come in?" He said when your eyes met and you almost laughed at his current state.

"Let me get a towel," you said over your shoulder as you made your way to the bathroom and fetched him a clean, thick towel. You returned to drape it over Hawks' body—a difficult task because of his wings. You tugged and pulled at the towel to dry his hair and he only watched you.

"Take a bath and I'll get you something warm to drink when you come out," you told him as he entered and ran to the bathroom. You dropped off a change of clothes for Hawks and returned to the kitchen.

You prepared yourself a warm cup of tea and flinched when you heard the heaviest, sudden downpour echo from the bathroom. The sound was loud and sudden enough to rival the intensity of thunder and lightning. It almost made you drop your cup, and it scared you to think what could have happened.

You rushed to the bathroom door and knocked carefully. "Hawks? Are you okay? What happened?"

Hawks laughed nervously and replied in an hesitant voice, "I, uh... I shook my wings..."

You had to hold in your laugh with a hand to your mouth. "Your feathers?" You asked in a muffled voice.

"Yea, uh... I was working as usual so my feathers individually gather water. When I shook out my wings, all the water fell... I didn't expect this much though, sorry," Hawks explained shamefully from the other side of the door.

That was the final cut that struck the thin line which held you together. You released the laughter you had been trying to hold in. You laughed so hard you had to balance yourself by putting your hands on your knees. Hawks, on the other hand, was not amused and you could tell from the silence.

When you finally calmed down, you had to wipe a lone tear as you said, "Sorry, go shower!"

You let Hawks continue his shower, and in the meantime, you cleaned the trail of wet splotches he had left behind. While cleaning, you could hear the lack of rhythm the rain had as it hit your windows. The sound was calming and a nice background noise to listen to while you cleaned.

It made you think of your rainy day playlist and you contemplated letting it play, when Hawks finally got out of the bathroom. He was wearing the clothes you prepared for him, as well as a towel around his neck, and it made you realize that you forgot to prepare his warm drink as you had promised. You handed Hawks your tea then finished up cleaning.

"Thanks, Feather," Hawks whispered into your ear and kissed the top of your head. You took a sip from his tea and kissed the corner of his lips. You raised the towel to his hair and you helped him dry his hair.

"Why did you come earlier than usual?" You asked as you pressed his cheeks together teasingly.

"It's difficult to fly in the rain and the rain makes it harder to focus on my feathers. I thought it'd be better to get off early rather than struggle in the rain," Hawks answered honestly as he let you playfully massage his face rather than dry his hair.

"Really? I should've thought of that since you're just a man-sized bird," you teased.

"Very funny," he whispered and leaned in to kiss your lips. You felt his smile on your lips and you couldn't help but smile back.

You finished drying his hair and plopped on the couch. Hawks accepted his spot next to you and lay his head on your lap. He sent his feathers to fetch a blanket for the both of you to share, but it made it difficult not to accidentally choke him out because of his position. You made it work, though.

You and Hawks watched movies and caught up on shows. He would take a sip of his tea and share it with you. You accidentally spilled a drop on Hawks' cheek, but luckily for him, the tea was lukewarm by then.

Hawks would occasionally squeeze your thigh to assure that he was still awake. To you, it was more of a way to keep himself from falling asleep but you kept it to yourself.

The rest of the day was spent like that without much changes except change in position. Hawks and you would move around on the couch when a body part fell asleep, or began to grow uncomfortable from the awkward position you put your bodies through to make the other more comfy. Hawks would spread his wings to stretch them out and a feather would tease you by tickling your chin or tip of your nose.

Needless to say, this rainy day was a relaxing one and a nice change of pace for the ever-hardworking pro-hero. Hawks wouldn't admit it just yet, but he liked staying in with you. He was actually glad that it had been raining so heavily. It gave him the excuse to see you as early as he did and stay by your side.
