《Soft Hawks X Reader Shorts》A Walk Through Town

Today, you and Hawks were on a date together just enjoying each other's company. You both were walking around town with no place in mind. As you walked, Hawks was sending his feathers to and fro.
A flurry of red feathers flew across the streets and sidewalks. A child was picked up after falling on their ass, which you laughed at without meaning to. A woman's pile of papers that almost flew away were caught with ease. A man who almost snatched a purse was immediately pinned to a wall until authorities came. Feather after feather, small crimes were solved and acts of kindness were enacted because of Hawks.
Despite all that Hawks was doing with his wings, all his attention was seemed to be on you. He looked at you with a smile as he walked beside you, ice cream in hand. You licked your ice cream and couldn't but wonder...
Does his head hurt from focusing on his quirk so much and pay attention to you? Were you in the way of his hero work? Were you a bother just by being in a relationship with Hawks?
Hawks seemed to notice the change in your mood and his brows furrowed with worry. His fingers entangled with yours and he pulled you closer to his side.
"What's wrong, Babybird?"
You looked at him and at your hand that held his, then back to him. You fought amongst yourself about whether or not you should ask him what began to eat away at your thoughts. One side believed that you knew how much he loved you, but the other thought that communication in relationships were key, so you had to tell him what worried you.
"Am I... Am I in the way?" You asked as you felt the depth of the words you spoke hang off your tongue and bring your head down with it.

But Hawks froze.
He halted to a sudden stop which pulled you back when you didn't stop walking. You looked back at him to see his wide eyes, and the countless feathers beyond him that were working tirelessly freeze, as if time itself had.
A feather that had picked up someone's dropped coat was paused mid returning it. Another was frozen helping pick up another child who fell and scraped their knee. Every feather that Hawks had sent away had stopped like someone pressed pause on the movie that was Hawks' life.
He looked at you and fumbled to find the right words. "What makes you think—Was it because I—You're not—That's not what I—No!"
He raised your hand that he held to his chest as he looked deep into your eyes. He smiled, despite the sympathy that etched across his face, as he said softly, "No, no, Babybird. Of course not. You're not in my way at all. I like being with you—I love being with you."
He let go of your hand to caress your cheek with a loving smile. "Being a hero and your love is no trouble at all. I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world," he cooed and took your hand in his again. He raised your hand to his then kissed it as he watched you.
Then a sudden change in his face let you know he just thought of something. A smirk crawled onto his lips and he leaned in to whisper in your ear with a low voice.
"In fact, you're more of a...lovely distraction, to say the least," he whispered as you felt a feather tease the nape of your neck.

"Am I...Am I in the way?" You asked with your head down.

"Who the fuck is giving you those thoughts, huh?"
You flinched at the harsh words that came from your boyfriend and looked up to see him pissed beyond compare. His head was cocked back in annoyance and behind him you saw the flurry of feathers rush back to him.
Your eyes widened as you realized the red feathers were aiming straight for you like heat-seeking missiles. "W-Wait, Hawks—Hawks!"
You were easily engulfed in a tornado of Hawks' feathers that blocked you from the view of the outside world. The feathers teased your body and felt like soft kisses peppering your every inch. From outside the feather tornado, you heard Hawks' voice.
"You still think you're in the way, Babybird?"
A single feather tickled your nose and slipped over the middle of your back. "Okay, I get it! I'm sorry!"
"Sorry for what?"
Your nose scrunched in annoyance and you replied, "I'm sorry for having those thoughts!"
Immediately, the feathers left you and continue their hard work. Hawks appeared in your view with an ice cream cone in hand that he must have bought while you struggled. He leaned in and kissed your cheek before giving you the cone.
"You're never a bother nor getting in my way, understand?"
You accepted the ice cream in defeat and nodded in response. He chuckled seeing how his feathers left you and ate his ice cream humming with the feeling of pure triumph.

A coming-of-rage urban fantasy novella centering on the mental health journey of Arthur Silva. It follows his struggles with self-worth, and his interpersonal relationships between his family, friends, coworkers and partners. This novella is in it's first draft so if it's a bit rough around the edges that's why. I just want to get some feedback on it as well as what's working. Each chapter can be very stylistically different from each other as a means of separating the different months that each chapter takes place to better put the reader into the headspace of Arthur.
