《Bad Intentions》Fourty-Five

"Halloween is tomorrow." Kayla exasperated.

I raised a brow, but didn't answer. I continued to write down my notes from my textbook.

We were currently seated outside at one of the available tables. We each had a free period and took advantage of it and decided to sit outside for a bit. The weather was starting to get colder, but not cold enough to make you stay in side.

The sun was shining in full forces, barely any clouds in the sky. The warm sun and cool weather was just the perfect combination. Something about it felt perfect.

"Halloween is tomorrow." She said again trying to catch my attention.

I decided to take the bait. "And?" I added.

"We should do something." She said with her hand resting on her cheek.

"Isn't our tradition to watch Halloween movies and eat so much candy till we burst?" I asked.

"Yeah and you know how much I love that." She said thoughtfully.

"You look forward to it every year." I told her. "You always always plan our movies for the night and get so much snacks. It's like you're feeding an army."

She smiled at the memory. "Yeah. How do we ever finish all that?"

I chuckled. "I don't know, I think it's something with Halloween. Like the holiday itself makes our stomachs grow twice the size."

"We turn in to vacuums." She laughed.

"It's in preparation for Thanksgiving." I told her.

"Yes! All that good food. I can't wait. I am just drooling thinking about it."

"One holiday at a time." I said bring her back from her day dream of turkey legs and mashed potatoes.

"Okay, fine. But we're watching Hocus Pocus first." She said definitely.

"I'm not complaining as long as we get to watch Us."

"But you hate scary movies and so do I." She stated.

"I know, but it's Halloween we need at least one scary movie."

"Leahhh." She whined. "I don't wanna."

"Scary movie in exchange for a bag of KitKats." I offered.

"Make if the big bag and you got a deal." She bargained.

"You got it."

"Then it's a deal."

"What's a deal?" I heard Nate said as he approach the table.

"Hey. What are you doing out of class so early?" I asked as he took a seat next to me. Our shoulders brushing slightly.

"The class was dismissed early and I saw you guys here." He answered. "Thought I would hang with you for a bit before the next class."

I smiled. "Well, right on time then. Kayla and I were talking about movies for Halloween."

"You have to at least have one scary movie on there. I know you guys aren't the biggest fans of those, but it's Halloween after all." He said and I gave Kayla a 'told you so' look.

She glared at me. "Lucky for us, Leah added Us to the roster. You're coming right? It's tradition."

"I wouldn't miss it." Nate said grabbing a chip out of my chip bag. I smacked his hand and he just gave me puppy dog eyes and reached for another.

"The Nightmare Before Christmas is on this list right?" He asked stealing my water. I glared daggers to the side of his face and Kayla chuckled.

"That is a permanent part of our line up. Too much of a classic to pass up." Kayla mentioned.

"Do I hear something about Halloween movies?" I heard a familiar voice say.

I turned around to see Luke. His light brown almost dark blonde hair was perfectly tousled, his emerald green eyes shinned brightly in the sunlight. His backpack was slung over his shoulder.

"Hi stranger." I said with a grin. "Where have you been?"

"Did you miss me?" He asked with a mischief smile.

I scoffed. "Yeah right."

"It's okay to admit it. I won't tell Jace." He added with a wink.

I rolled my eyes as Luke took the seat next to Kayla. Her eyes practically glued on him, Luke looked over and gave Kayla a smile and she automatically looked away. Redness filled her cheeks.

"Do you see what I'm seeing?" Nate whispered to me.

"Definitely." The matchmaker part of me was ignited. "Luke, you remember my best friend Kayla."

"Yeah, at Livingston's party. I can't forget such a pretty face." He gave her a smirk and she turned ten shades of dark red.

I internally squealed. I am loving this!

I've never seen here act this way in the many years of our friendship. I looked between the two and they would make such a cute couple!

"And this is Nate." I introduced the two guys.

Looked between the two of us, his eyes flashed down to our touching shoulders. He gave me a questioning look. I furrowed my brows. What was that?

I don't think that Luke knows much of anything about Nate and I.

"Hey man." Luke said politely giving Nate one of those guy handshakes which Nate returned. He cleared his throat. "I know I heard something about Halloween movies."

"It's our tradition to have a Halloween movie marathon on the day itself." Kayla spoke up. "We've been doing it for years."

"Those type of traditions are awesome. I hope you're starting with Hocus Pocus. It's a classic." Luke said.

"You like Hocus Pocus?" She asked shockingly.

"What? Who wouldn't? It's a classic." Luke answered. "It's a must have for every Halloween."

And that just led off for the two of them talking about all types of Halloween movies and must have snacks. Totally engrossed by the conversation.

They were definitely hitting it off.

Nate and I high fived as they were talking.

That didn't take that much effort.

"Luke! Dude where did you disappear to?" A voice rang from behind.

Turing around, it was Ian who was calling out. Jace was by his side. I haven't seen him since the day he left with Allison.

They approached the table. "Sorry man. I found Leah and kind of got distracted." Luke answered glancing over to Kayla with a smirk.

"Don't you guys have class?" I questioned. How is it that they're all here at the same time.

"Have you never skipped before?" Ian asked.

"Whatever." I muttered waving my hand dismissively.

The conversation went on between the trio about Halloween and rest of us listened in on.

I looked over to Jace. He looked tired. I mean still hot, but tired.

I wonder if he found anything that day. I hope if he did that he would share it with me soon.

His eyes glanced over to Nate and I. He quirked a brow at our closeness. His gaze made me very aware of how close I was to Nate. It didn't bother me before just until he caught sight.

I shifted in my seat from being under his gaze.

"You guys should come over to our Halloween movie marathon tomorrow. It's at Leah's house." Kayla offered with a huge grin.

Nate and I gave her a double take.

Did she just think what I think she did?

Nate's eyes glaring daggers at Kayla's head answered my question.

"I'm down." Ian answered.

"Wouldn't miss it." Luke added returning her grin.

Their eyes shifted to Jace, who didn't answer, with anticipation.

Maybe he'll say no.

And I could avoid a very awkward situation between Nate and Jace.

Be on my side, God.

"I guess you can count me in." He finally answered his eyes landing on me.

My hope deflated liked a helium balloon.

Kayla cheered with happiness, while Nate looked like he wanted to stuff my notebook in her mouth.

I was on Nate's side.

Halloween or not.

I was in for one hell of a haunting night.
