《Her Mate - Olivia (The Gray Wolves Series #1)》I'll Be There

I go to the garage and take one of the keys in the box.

It's not hard to know which one I need as there is a small lock on it with the letters O.E.G. engraved on it, alongside a black wolf and a silver wolf pendants. I wonder when he had time to buy them, as I'm certain this is Alec's idea.

I push the key button to find which car is the good one. I see some orange lights, and I know which car to take. I walk to it. I see a duffle bag and a pick-nick bucket on the backseats when I open the door. I quickly close the door and move to the driver's side. I jump on my seat, fasten my seat belt and turn on the engine. I get out of the parking lot, and as I reach the property border, I notice that two of Alec's lycans are at the gates alongside Caleb. I stop and get out of the car without turning off the engine. Then Kate gets out of the guard's little cabin with a bag.

"Where are we going?" Kate asks as she moves to the passenger side. She opens the backdoor and throws her bag in it. Then she opens the front door, sits on her seat, and buckles her seat belt.

Caleb looks at me.

"I did not tell her a lot. Just that she would go with you to be in a safe place. I'll let you explain what you want to her. Just be careful on your way and think about updating us regularly, okay?" Caleb says before he embraces me.

"I'll keep you updated and do my best to take care of Kate, I promise you. Be all careful," I whisper to Caleb. As I let go of him, the two large lycans approach me.

"That's for you, princess Olivia. From mister wolf," he says.

"Be careful, princess. Everything is set, but we were dismayed more than once, and we can't lose our future queen," the second lycan says.

"Thank you, both of you. I don't even know your names after all these weeks," I tell them.

"Taylor," the second lycan answers.

"I've worked with the King before I worked with Prince Alexander. I am pleased you are the prince's mate. You remind me a lot of the Queen."

"Thanks, Taylor. For today, and for when you stood for me against Amber. I really appreciate it," I reply with a smile. He bows, saying that it was his privilege. Then I turn to the other lycan.

"Adam, princess Olivia," he answers.

"Taylor's cousin. Our family is proud to serve the royal family. We will do our best to bring you home safe and sound as fast as possible, princess Olivia," he adds, bowing.

"Thank you very much. Both of you," I answer before I get back to the car. I buckle my seat belt and drive to the main road, half a mile away.

"So, where are we going? You did not answer," Kate says, as my eyes fill with tears. She is the best friend I could possibly have. That's a thing for sure. At least I'll have her now that I have to leave Alec.

"Thank you, Kate. Are you sure you want to run with me?" I look at her so she understands I am uncertain about what may happen once we're out of the packhouse surroundings. As Taylor said, we were surprised more than once since the first attack.

"You should not be alone because of your condition," she says, pointing at my belly.

"We both need to enjoy some pause. This Beta mate thing that's so exhausting. And I love spending time with my best friend, as long as I can." She puts her hand on my right hand, which is holding the steering wheel.

"Plus, you know I'll be there whenever you need me. Just like today," she adds, putting her left hand on my right one.

"The Oasis." That's all I speak. She glances at me with a smile and nods.

We've been driving for twenty minutes now and just passed one of our major cities' borders. Some small groups of wolves live in the woods or in isolated spots. Not everyone is fond of city life, and it was never a problem for our pack to have freer wolves if they felt better this way.

If I enjoy going out in the countryside, I don't really enjoy being away from Alec, particularly with him not bearing my mark. For some reason, my teary eyes are overwhelmed by my hormones, and a river of tears starts to fall on my cheeks.

"What is happening?" Kate worriedly questions me.

"It's just that, Alec," I sob as the flow of tears grows stronger.

"Amber, she was naked, and," I let go through the sobs. I know this makes no sense to Kate, as I notice her eyes widen. My vision gets blurry, and I have to wipe the tears away to be able to keep on driving.

"Stop the car," Kate tells me. I don't stop the car. I don't want to stop the vehicle; I want to get away from here before I drive back to the packhouse and mark Alec in front of everyone. She puts her hand on mine and she speaks softly.

"Stop the car Liv, please." She uses her Reader powers. I start to relax gradually.

"Unfair, Kate," I murmur, my voice shaking. But Kate does not let go and keeps using her powers to make me feel better.

"You can be more stubborn than the most uncompromising alpha, you know that?" I laugh while halting the car on the roadside.

She cups my face and turns it to hers.

"Have you considered the fact that Amber may be envious and invent things in order to create some chaos between Alec and you?" She smiles sweetly to warm my heart. I don't really understand why she says that, but well, that's fine.

"I..." I start, but she does not let me add anything else.

"Are you sure he was really in this room?" Kate sounds like she is trying to reason with some heartbroken girl that would have caught his mate cheating.

Oh, shit.

I just let out Alec and naked Amber in the same sentence. So she must think I consider Alec cheated on me.

"Not at," but once again, Kate interrupts me.

"Do you trust Alec and the fact he loves you, cares for you, and wants to protect you? Or do you believe an ex-lover, still loving him for sure, but totally psychotic because she is ignored as he found his true mate?" Kate says, totally calm. She was really asking what I was feeling. I start to laugh as I find her efforts really cute.

"I know Alec is faithful, Kate. I completely trust him," I answer while still giggling. Kate looks at me like I have three heads.

"So why are you crying?" she asks me dubiously.

"I wish I could mark my mate and not leave him with the psychotic you mentioned. And then, I guess the little babies inside me make me a little overemotional," I answer, half crying and laughing.

"Babies? Like more than one?" she asks, her eyes glimmering at the news. I nod in answer.

"I want you to tell me everything," she says with a gigantic smile while I start driving again. That's going to be a long road, but I am thrilled I can finally share all of this with her. I realize how much I have missed our girls' conversations.

This two hours' drive is definitely not too much to respond to all of Kate's questions. Starting from when I met Alexander and how I felt unable to submit to his prince power. How he announced to me he was my mate and how I was undoubtedly attracted to him, even though I was scared to death. How I could not prevent myself from falling for him and desiring him more than everything. How heartbroken I was when I was overwhelmed with jealousy. How it happened for me to shift into Selene when I saw him endangered. My meetings with Moon-Goddess and all she divulged to me - from her own story to the fact I was the new silver wolf. The gray wolves and the threats on my babies because of some ludicrous, cupid evil wolf whom I ignored the identity. And finally, our plan that had to be successful, as soon as possible as I needed to go back to Alec to be marked by my mate.

"I'm gonna kill Caleb. You know he did not tell me a thing?" she says after hearing the whole story.

"I don't think Alec and Eli told him a lot. They are obvious how persuasive you can be because of your Reader's powers. I think it is why I avoided you as much as possible, even if it was unconsciously," I answer with a smile when I recognize the forest that leads us to our shelter place.

We finally enter the path in the woods. The only sign showing that this path leads to a place is the wooden sign with a waterfall and a wolf's paw.

We made it with Elijah when we were kids. He drew the waterfall, and I did the paw. I used to say it was my wolf's paw, even if I was just a kid. Funny when we think that my wolf just showed up, and that I was considered being without a wolf for 6 years.

We keep driving for some minutes in the woods, and then it appears. A lovely house with large windows.

The house is made of wood and is entirely self-sufficient, thanks to some solar panels. Water is taken from the river and filtered thanks to a system created by some of our engineer wolves. On the outside, there is a sling and a toboggan. My parents put them in when we were kids. We used to come here often as the conflicts between the packs were not so rare. Even if our pack rarely took parts, my father wanted us to be safe if wolves entered our territory, as the surrounding packs were not as peaceful as we were.

We went there with Kate, Caleb, Eli, Caleb's mother, and our mother. My father and Alan stayed with the pack to lead the warriors. In their wolf forms, the journey was quicker for my father and Alan, and they would be here fast enough to intervene while we could stay hidden in the fortified and secret basement.

I park the car in front of the back door before I get out of our vehicle. I breathe some fresh air and smile. This place is as quiet as before.

I take our bags while Kate takes the picnic basket. I glance in my purse to grab a key and open the Oasis front door.

As I enter, I can see they had prepared the place well, as it was all cleaned. I don't have to open the kitchen furniture to know that some groceries were bought for us.

I go to the large room which stands as our living room. It is full of light thanks to the large windows. The view is so peaceful as we can see the trees and the banks of the pond through the leaves.

A large island stands on the left side of the room, where the kitchen part is set. The black marble is still as shiny as the first day. The dark furniture looks so nice on the white walls.

On the opposite side of the room are black couches and armchairs. We used to sit on them during holidays, playing games together, eating marshmallows with hot drinks, reading, or telling stories. Sometimes we watched TV.

I turn and see Kate, who seems to think, a giant smile on her face.

"What are you thinking about?" I ask her, sitting on one stool in the kitchen.

"Well... let's have a kiddo's free time, with movies, hot drinks, and marshmallows. That's all so good." She laughs and takes her phone inside her bag.

"Okay, let me just put our stuff in my parents' suite. Let's have some princesses' break as we are stuck here," I answer, getting up.

I take our bags and put them in the biggest room. King-size bed with soft beige shits. The walls are cream white, and the furniture is light brown. There is a large closet and an open bathroom, just hidden by some wooden screens.

My parents used to take this room, but it is all ours this time.

I jump on the bed and hide my face in the pillows. I wish I could take Alec here one day. After a few minutes of lying down with my head stuck in a pad, I take my phone out of my pocket.

I realize I have several messages.

Mister wolf -

Former Alpha and Luna go on a trip to be safe. They say they love you. But I love you more.

Little Alpha -

Take care of everything. Brownie and Gingerbread are not far away, but they will leave you some peace. Enjoy your break.

Love you.

I smile as I read their text.

I decide to answer Eli instead of Alec. I am not sure if the witchy snake won't try to take a look at his phone if she is close to him. The simple idea makes me angry.

- Little Alpha

We're fine. I hope the big bad wolf will come here someday.

And he needs to tell me about his code name one day. Why did he choose that?

I put my phone back in my pocket and get up before I leave the room and go back to our living room.

I join Kate on the couch, and we start our peaceful girly vacations. As I'm about to put my phone on the table, one new message flash on my screen.

Mister Wolf -

Remember when you were five, and you'll understand.

How am I supposed to remember something that happened when I was five?
