Karma walks over to a tree with a sharp rock and slashes a small line down it.

Karma walks over to the campsite. Angel and Zach carry bamboo and stack it in a pile while Alexis tends to the fire.

Karma: It looks like we’ve got a great flame going today.

Alexis: Yup, I’m getting kind of good at this. Who knew I would learn how to make and tend a fire in the Provisional Licensing Exam?

Karma: I’ve acquired many skills I never thought I would in this exam.

Alexis: Oh… I guess I shouldn’t talk about the exam too much.

Karma: It’s okay. My time may have only been 15 minutes, but surviving here has given me a lot of time to come to peace with my performance.

Alexis: Same here. Well… I guess I chose to back out of the exam, so I was at peace already. And besides, I probably wasn’t beating Saige.

Karma: But the hypothetical isn’t eating away at you?

Alexis: No, I’m just happy to have Aaron back, you know, the regular Aaron.

Aaron is standing guard over the prison.

Aaron: Alright, today’s story will be about when Wes left gym class because of “abdominal pain.”

Wes: FUCK YOU, AARON!

Alexis smiles.

Alexis: He’s an asshole, but he’s my asshole.

Karma: I don’t know whether that’s cute or not.

Eve comes walking over.

Eve: Where’s Kevin? We need to discuss Grace’s last escape. The holes should be dug much deeper.

Alexis: He’s with Justus and Ash; they went to get today’s rations from across the island.

Eve: Ugh… of course. He probably volunteered to avoid hearing from me about the state of the prison. What’s the point of having her in the hole if she can climb out of it?

Karma: Maybe we should consider freeing everyone. The prison seems kind of cruel.

Eve: It’s cruel because it needs to be. There has to be order in any society, our’s included. We can discuss allowing the parole of Bruno and Wes.

Alexis: What about Gus?

Eve: Gus was thrown in prison for attempting to eat more than his fair share, and given his current status…

Gus has turned into a feral creature in his hole.

Gus: Food…

Gus starts eating handfuls of sand.

Eve: I’d say releasing him is out of the question. As for Grace, she’s a danger to society. Isaiah and Demetri will obviously break our only rule, and Alec and Killian assisted a prisoner, so they’re stuck there for the long haul.

Alexis: You didn’t mention Gavin.

Eve: Did I have to?

Alexis: Yes.

Eve: *sighs* Anyway, I’m already anticipating the princess will crack soon, and we’ll have to throw her in the hole.

Karma: She’s been doing alright so far.

Eve: It’s day 4.

Sydney is lying on the beach, staring up at the clouds.

Sydney: *groans*

Verity comes walking over.

Verity: Sydney, you’ll get a nasty sunburn if you stay here like this.

Sydney: So what? It’s not my real skin…

Verity: It will hurt like it is.

Sydney: *groans*

Verity: I don’t have my quirk right now, but I can tell you’re depressed.

Sydney: Thanks, Sherlock.

Verity: I know it meant a lot for you to have a fight with Hayze, but I’m sure you’ll have another chance.

Verity stands up too.

Angel starts walking up the beach.

Angel: (Manual labor is tough on so little food, this is the least I can do for Zach.)

Angel notices something in the ocean out of the corner of his eye.

Angel: Huh?

A boat is speeding towards the island with many people on it.

Angel: No way…

Angel starts running back to camp.

Angel: Guys! Guys!

Alexis, Karma, Eve, Sydney, Verity, Aaron, and Zach hear Angel yelling. As do the prisoners.

Alexis: Is that Angel?

Karma: I hope nothing is wrong.

Eve: He isn’t one of the stupid ones, so it’s probably something important.

Angel approaches the camp.

Angel: Guys! A boat is here! A real one! Not a paddleboat! I think they’re here to-

A bullet flies through Angel’s head. Everyone watches in horror as his lifeless body flops against the ground and disintegrates.

Eve: ANGEL!

Aaron: Holy crap!

Aaron abandons his post and runs to the camp.

Wes: WOAH! WHAT THE FUCK! WAS THAT A GUNSHOT?! AARON?!

Killian: What’s going on out there?!

Alec: Tell us!

The boat beaches and 12 pirates with AK47s jump off.

Pirate 1: All clear, captain.

Voice: Good.

The captain walks to the front of the boat and steps off. He’s holding an AK with a smoking barrel.

Voice: You know the drill; shoot anyone that fights back. Capture them and bring them to me.

Pirates: Yes, captain!

The pirates begin charging towards the shelter.

Voice: Good…

Aaron runs up to the others at the shelter.

Aaron: This must be the end of the phase! We’ve gotta run!

Eve: Angel’s gone…

Alexis: It’s okay, Eve.

Aaron: Yeah, remember, this is just a simulation. He’s fine in the outside world now, but if we stay here, we’ll join him. Let’s go!

Aaron grabs Alexis’ hand and starts running.

Alexis: Huh?

Zach: What about the others?!

Aaron: Only one person can pass this phase, Zach, and it’s better us than them!

Aaron runs into the woods with Alexis.

Karma: He makes a valid point.

Eve: Yeah… besides, they’re in those holes for good reasons.

Karma and Eve run off after Aaron and Alexis. Sydney goes to follow.

Sydney: Verity! Come on!

Verity: I’m not leaving.

Sydney stares at Verity for a few moments.

Sydney: *grunts* Fine!

Sydney runs off. Verity turns to Zach.

Verity: What about you?

Zach: I’m not leaving everyone in prison to die! Even if this is a simulation, it doesn’t sit well with me!

Verity: That’s admirable. Good luck.

Verity starts running away.

Zach: Wh- where are you going?

Verity: I have a plan. It doesn’t involve you.

Verity runs off.

Zach: (There isn’t enough time to free everyone, so I will have to fight!)

The pirates reach the campsite. It looks completely abandoned.

Pirate 1: Be careful. They might have set a trap.

Pirate 2: It’s too bad that kid spotted our boat. We could have gotten the drop on them.

Pirate 3: How many should there be?

Pirate 1: Not counting the one the captain gunned down, 20.

The pirates carefully canvas the camp. Zach is hidden in a bush near the shelter.

Zach: (If I can get just one of their guns, I can take down a few of them.)

A pirate approaches the shelter.

Pirate 4: Man… what a shitty shelter. They really couldn’t build anything better?

The pirate goes to check behind the shelter, unknowingly turning his back to Zach.

Pirate 4: Come out, come out wherever you are-

Zach bursts out of the bush and drives the machete into the pirate’s back.

Pirate 4: AH!

All of the other pirates hear his scream and start moving towards him.

Pirate 4: You little bastard!

The pirate tries to turn around and shoot Zach, but Zach quickly punches him in the face, stunning him.

Pirate 4: *groans*

Zach: (I’ve got it!)

Zach grabs the AK as the other 11 pirates surround him. Zach takes Pirate 4 hostage.

Zach: Drop your guns, or he dies!

The pirates all laugh loudly.

Pirate 4: Nice try, kid. Cya.

Zach: Huh?

The pirates light Pirate 4 and Zach up. Their lifeless bodies flop against the ground and disintegrate.

Pirate 1: Alright, now that that’s taken care of, let’s inspect those holes over there.

Pirates: Right!

The pirates approach the prisoners.

Wes: (Oh god… this isn’t good.)

Killian: Hey! What’s going on out there?!

Demetri: Help us!

Isaiah: Please!

The pirates look inside the holes.

Wes: (Of course… three weeks on his island just to get fucked over by Aaron.)

Alec: (Great…)

Bruno: Who are you?!

Pirate 1: Shut up! Speak when spoken to!

Pirate 2: I count eight so far, boss.

Pirate 1: Okay, what about that one?

Pirate 1 points to Gavin’s hole cover.

Wes: I wouldn’t open that if I were you.

Pirate 1: Shut up, maggot! Open it.

Pirate 2: Yessir.

Wes: Suit yourself.

Pirate 1: What did I just say?!

Two of the pirates start lifting up Gavin’s cover.

Pirate 11: This is heavy!

Pirate 12: You said it!

The pirates lift up the cover and are instantly met with a toxic cloud of fart gas.

Gavin: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Pirate 11: WHAT THE HELL!

Pirate 12: IT’S SO NASTY!

The two pirates die with their eyes partially melted. Their bodies disintegrate.

Pirate 1: What the fuck! Kill whatever is in there!

Pirate 2: With all due respect, I ain’t going anywhere near there, sir!

Suddenly, Gavin comes flying out of the hole using his farts.

Gavin: You guys picked the wrong hole to open…

Pirate 1: Kill him!

Eight pirates open fire on Gavin; he speed waddles into the forest, dodging every shot.

Pirate 1: The fuck was that?

Wes: Gavin.

Pirate 1: *grunts* Whatever, you four get the rest of these bastards out of the holes and tie them. Bring them to the captain after that. The rest of you head out into the woods and canvas for the rest of them. By my count, there should be eleven out there somewhere.

Pirate 2: Yessir! Let’s move out, boys!

Four of the pirates head out into the woods.

Pirate 1: Listen up, we’re gonna toss you down a bamboo stick, climb out and put your hands in the air. If you do as we say, you won’t die.

Wes: (This is just great.)

Verity is hiding in the nearby bushes.

Verity: (Soon…)

Bruno exits his hole with his hands up.

Pirate 1: Tie him.

Bruno: What do you fiends want with us?

Pirate 1: You’ll find out when the captain tells you; for now, just be a good little boy and follow my orders.

Bruno is tied up and thrown to the ground at gunpoint.

Pirate 1: Next.

Demetri, Isaiah, Alec, and Killian are all lifted out of their holes, tied up, and thrown to the ground.

Pirate 1: Next.

A pirate walks over to Gus’ hole.

Pirate 7: Uh… sir?

Pirate 1: What?

Pirate 1 walks over and looks in the hole. Gus is scratching at the walls trying to escape.

Gus: FOOD!

Pirate 1: Ugh… put it down.

Wes: Gus!

Pirate 7 lights up Gus.

Pirate 1: Next.

Grace: It’s about time!

Grace is lifted out of the hole.

Grace: Can I make a request?

Pirate 1: No.

Grace: Can you smack me upside the head with your buttstock?

Wes: DON’T DO IT!

Pirate 1: Whatever.

Pirate 7 smacks Grace upside the head, knocking her to the ground.

Grace: Oh… yeah…

The pirates stare at her, dumbfounded.

Pirate 1: Tie her up so we can get the last one.

The pirates do so.

Grace: Can you make these ropes a little tighter?

Pirate 7: No.

Grace: TEASE!

Pirate 7 walks over to Wes’ hole.

Wes: (Great… my turn.)

The pirate lowers the bamboo log. Wes grabs it and climbs out of the hole with his hands up.

Pirate 7: Alright, hands behind your-

The pirates hear rustling in the bushes.

Pirate 1: What was that?

Pirate 8: Should I check it out, sir?

Pirate 1: Yes. *looks at Pirate 7* Keep him at gunpoint for now, but aim at the bushes too, just in case.

Pirate 7: Yessir.

Wes: (Was that Gavin?)

Pirate 8 inspects the bush where the sound came from. However, Verity is hiding in one much closer to Wes.

Verity: (Now.)

Verity grabs a rock and chucks it.

Verity: (This will work.)

The rock smacks Wes in the back of the head.

Wes: AHHHH!

Pirate 7: What the fuck?

Pirate 7 starts walking in the direction the rock came from.

Pirate 7: Who’s there?!

Verity: Run for it!

Wes realizes he’s no longer at gunpoint and starts running.

Wes: Holy shit! AHHHH!

Wes books it into the forest. Verity follows him. Pirates 7 and 8 start running after them.

Pirate 1: Stop!

Pirate 7: Huh?

Pirate 8: What, sir?

Pirate 1: We have six prisoners; that’s enough for now. Let’s bring these ones to the boss.

The pirates escort Isaiah, Demetri, Alec, Killian, Bruno, and Grace back to their boat at gunpoint.

Isaiah: This sucks…

Demetri: If only we’d won…

Killian: Fuck that guy, Kevin.

Alec: When I see that guy…

Kevin sneezes.

Justus: Something wrong?

Kevin: Nah, somebody must be saying nice things about me somewhere.

Ash: You believe that superstition?

Kevin: It’s more fun to believe it than not.

Ash: That’s fair.

Kevin: Anyway, let’s keep moving. I’m sure the others are getting restless for their rice.

Justus: If they can even stomach it.

Ash: You said it. I don’t think I’ll ever look at rice the same after all this…

Kevin: Yeah, hopefully, Zach can catch us some fish tonight.

Ash: I sure hope so-

A stick breaks.

Kevin: What was that?

Pirate 2: Hands up!

The four pirates emerge behind some trees with guns aimed at Kevin, Justus, and Ash.

Justus: (This isn’t good…)

Kevin: (Great, the day this all ends and we happen to be out getting rice.)

They drop the rice rations and put their hands up.

Pirate 2: Tie them up.

Pirate 2 pulls out a walky-talky.

Pirate 2: Boss, we found three of them. It doesn’t look like they knew we were here.

Pirate 1: *walky-talky* Good, bring them back to the boat.

The pirates tie up Kevin, Justus, and Ash.

Justus: (“We found three of them” That implies that some of the people at camp escaped their initial siege. I hope they’re alright.)

Aaron, Alexis, Karma, and Eve catch their breath.

Aaron: Alright, it looks like Zach and Verity didn’t come with us.

Karma: I heard gunshots while we were running. That could have been them.

Aaron: Maybe, but we can’t think about that. We have to take them out.

Sydney: And how do you plan to do that? They have guns, and we’re quirkless.

Everyone stares at Sydney.

Eve: Why are you here?

Sydney: Wh- we’re on the same team!

Alexis: If I had to guess, they probably have a team out searching for us.

Karma: And the others, for that matter, remember Justus, Kevin and Ash were out retrieving the rations.

Eve: Shit! You’re right. Those three will probably run right into them!

Aaron: Yeah, but there’s nothing we can do about that. We’ll have to set up a trap to lure the attackers in. The only chance we have is if we take possession of at least one of their guns.

Sydney: You say things with zero thought behind them. We have nothing, no supplies at all. So how are we supposed to do anything against them?

Alexis, Eve and Karma look at each other.

Sydney: What?

Alexis: Aaron, turn around.

Aaron: Why?

Alexis: Did I stutter?

Aaron turns around. Alexis, Eve and Karma all look at Sydney.

Sydney: Why are you looking at me like that?

Wes stops to catch his breath at a small river.

Wes: Jesus fuck… how did I get away?

Verity: With my help.

Verity is standing right behind Wes.

Wes: AHHH!

Wes trips and falls in the water.

Verity: Get up. We must assist the others.

Wes: I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH YOU, YA CRAZY BITCH!

Verity: Get over yourself.

Wes: Huh?

Verity: This is the end of the phase. Only one of us may pass; if you just run and hide, I guarantee it won’t be you.

Wes is taken aback.

Verity: You can try to succeed on your own if you’d like, but I can’t imagine it will go well.

Verity starts walking off.

Wes: Where are you going?

Verity: To find the others, there are 18 of us left. Six have been captured, and we’re here, which means there are still ten other people for us to regroup with. So you can join me if you’d like.

Verity walks off.

Wes: *frustrated grunt* Wait up!

The four pirates escort Justus, Kevin, and Ash through the jungle.

Pirate 3: Should we split up and look for the others? There are still a lot of them out here.

Pirate 2: No, we join back up with others and deliver these three to the captain. They’re trapped on this island, so we have the luxury of being methodical.

Pirate 5: Hey, do you guys hear that?

Pirate 3: Hear what?

Pirate 2: Wait, quiet down.

The pirates hear a faint noise in the distance.

Pirate 5: It kind of sounds like a person.

Pirate 6: It’s high pitched too, so probably a female.

Kevin looks at Justus.

Pirate 3: Should we investigate? It sounds like it’s to the west.

Pirate 2: Hm… I’ll call it in to be safe.

Pirate 2 pulls out the walky-talky.

Pirate 2: Boss, we think we hear another one in the distance. If we go to investigate, we’ll be veering off course of the beach. What should we do?

Pirate 1: *walky-talky* Are you sure it’s one of them?

Pirate 2: Not entirely, but it’s hard to imagine it isn’t.

Pirate 1: *walky-talky* Hm… alright, I’ve got an idea. Two of you check it out, and two continue escorting the prisoners back to the beach. But, bring one of the prisoners with you to investigate. If it’s a trap, at least you have leverage.

Pirate 2: Right. Okay, we’ll go check it out.

Pirate 2 turns to Justus, Kevin, and Ash.

Pirate 2: We’ll take the strong one with us.

Kevin: Aw… thank you.

Pirate 2 takes Justus by the arm and heads off with Pirate 3.

Kevin: Dick!

Ash: Be careful, Justus!

Pirate 6: Come on, you two.

Kevin and Ash continue being escorted to the beach.

Justus: Why me?

Pirate 2: If I have to shoot you, we won’t have to deal with you later.

Justus: What’s happening later?

Pirate 2: You’ll find out.

The pirates and Justus traverse the jungle. The sound gets louder and louder.

Justus: Is that… Sydney?

Pirate 2: I don’t know who this “Sydney” is, but she sounds like a bitch.

Justus: Probably.

They continue walking.

Sydney: HELP ME!

The pirates and Justus find Sydney hanging from a bamboo tree by her panties.

Pirate 2: Jesus Christ!

Pirate 3: Did a gorilla carry her up there?

Justus: (Eve and the others must be behind this.)

Sydney: HELP ME DOWN, YOU BASTARDS!

The pirates look at each other.

Pirate 2: I ain’t climbing up there.

Pirate 3: Neither am I.

Pirate 2: *sighs* Alright… We’re shooting down the tree.

Sydney: WHAT! Don’t do that!

Pirate 2: Would you prefer we shoot you instead?

Sydney: No! I’d prefer it if you helped me!

Pirate 2: Ugh… this girl’s annoying.

Pirate 2 aims his AK at the tree.

Pirate 2: Alright, let’s-

The barrel of an AK pokes into the back of Pirate 2’s neck.

Karma: Drop it.

Pirate 2 drops the AK. Karma moves in front of him and holds him at gunpoint.

Pirate 2: How did you get that?

Karma: Look behind you.

Pirate 3’s dead body is lying against the ground. It disintegrates.

Pirate 2: Wh- when did you-

Karma: When you’ve been living in a forest for 71 days, you learn how to walk through it without making noise.

Aaron, Alexis, and Eve emerge from behind some rocks.

Aaron: Nice work, Karma.

Aaron picks up the other AK. Alexis unties Justus.

Justus: Thank you.

Aaron: Let’s get these ropes around this guy.

Alexis ties up the pirate.

Justus: That was an innovative plan by all of you.

Aaron: Hell yeah, and now we have some weapons.

Eve: Where are Kevin and Ash?

Justus: They were brought to the beach. I was chosen to act as a hostage for this search party.

Aaron: Damn…

Justus: What happened exactly?

Alexis: A bunch of pirates rolled up on the beach and shot Angel. Then they sieged our campsite.

Justus: Angel’s gone?

Karma: Yes, and most likely so are Verity and Zach.

Justus: That’s not good.

Aaron: Yeah, and including Ash and Kevin, they probably have eleven prisoners.

Justus: That’s also not good.

Alexis: The only person unaccounted for is Tobias, then.

Eve: He’s probably still staring out at the ocean and doesn’t even know what’s happening.

Aaron: He’s not going to be much help.

Karma: We should figure out our next move.

Justus: From what this pirate told me, something will happen on their boat later.

Aaron: Oh yeah?

Aaron sticks the barrel of his AK in Pirate 2’s face.

Aaron: Why don’t you tell us what that is?

Pirate 2 puts his mouth on the barrel.

Aaron: Oh, you think you’re funny?

Aaron fires the gun, killing Pirate 2. His body disintegrates.

Alexis: Aaron!

Eve: Why would you do that?

Aaron: I don’t know about you guys, but willingly sticking a gun in your mouth is usually the universal sign for “I’m not talking.”

Eve: We could have at least used him as bait!

Aaron: Bait for what? They’re pirates, Eve. They’re not going to jeopardize their mission for one of their own!

Karma: He brings up a fair point.

Alexis: Yeah, I kind of have to agree with him on that one.

Eve: *frustrated grunt*

Justus: Regardless, we need to figure out a plan.

Aaron: Well, if I had to guess, this is the end of “Phase 0,” which means we’re all leaving this island somehow no matter what happens.

Justus: Right.

Aaron: Normally, there are only two ways that can happen. Either A: you raise the flag, or B: you die. Both are established to mean you fail the phase, but now… there’s a new way off this island.

Alexis: Their boat!

Aaron: Yup. I think our goal is to escape this island on their boat.

Karma: That’s a good theory, but we’re outgunned and outmanned.

Eve: And I know this is a little awkward to mention, but only one of us can pass this phase. If we all escape, how do they decide which of us it is?

Alexis: My guess: performance. They have all of our other classmates held as hostages in front of the boat. If we let them all get gunned down…

Aaron: We probably fail.

Eve: Great, so we need to take down all of those pirates, escape and do it without getting anybody killed.

Everyone is silent.

Aaron: Well, we’re not going to get anything done standing here. We should try to move closer to the beach.

Justus: Yes, we could formulate a strategy once we have eyes on our targets.

Aaron, Justus, Karma, Alexis, and Eve start walking away.

Sydney: HEY!

Alexis: Huh?

Sydney: YOU’RE FORGETTING ME!

Alexis: I don’t think we are…

Sydney: You can’t leave me here like this! It’s humiliating!

Alexis: I’ll tell you what, if you can promise not to be an annoying bitch, we’ll let you down.

Sydney grinds her teeth.

Sydney: I promise!

Alexis: Promise what?

Sydney: WHAT YOU JUST SAID!

Alexis: Say it out loud.

Sydney: No!

Alexis: Suit yourself.

Alexis walks away.

Sydney: WAIT! Please don’t leave!

Alexis: I’d be more concerned about the elastic than me.

Sydney hears a tear.

Karma looks at Alexis.
