《Exiled Kingdom》Chapter XI

Unexpectedly, the Aserai envoy did not mention the surrender of the Vladian mercenaries, but instead proposed a truce between the two armies. The Vladian mercenaries who were already in a bind, the offer was of course very welcome. After some negotiations, the two sides reached a truce agreement, the Aserai, on the other hand, had to provide rations to the Vladians, this was good news for the mercenaries, because their food reserves were finished and they were prepared to burn and loot villages along the way.
Although there was a truce agreement, Clechus did not let his guard down, the aserai envoy led the way, while Clechus ordered the entire army to march in a 3-column, 4-row battle formation. Along the way there were trenches three or four meters wide and filled with sewage, the soldiers had to cut down trees to build wooden bridges. In contrast, Demarcus, who was currently in the supply unit in the rear, had it easy.
"Oh, that's Clechus!" With the direction Olivors pointed, Demarcus saw a tall, middle-aged man, bare upper body, with tan-colored muscles and several conspicuous scars, carrying a freshly cut tree along with the soldiers. When he reached the ditch, he jumped down without hesitation, not caring about splashing mud all over his body, and immediately started repairing the newly broken wooden bridge.
“Yes, this is Clechus! And where is our Metor?!” Mace sighed as he spoke a few meaningful words.
Despite the contradiction between Metor and Clechus, the troops led by them also fought because of the conflict. But the soldiers were not fools, they can see what their leaders are doing, who is worth trusting? who is stronger is clear in his heart. There are over a dozen mercenary leaders, why does Clechus always dominate?! It is not without reason.
This is the way to command an army! Demarcus who has been watching Clechus' performance and telling himself so from the bottom of his heart.
At nightfall, the Vladians reached their destination. The village that the Aserai envoy prepared for the Vladian mercenaries to settle in provided not only comfortable lodging, but abundant food as well; fruit wine, drinks, bread, dates…

All the soldiers couldn't help but cheer.
For a time, Demarcus wondered: 'Do the Aserai really fear the Vladian hoplites and really want a truce?'
Just after he and his companions tasted the food and decided it was okay, when he was ready to eat and drink, Antonio came up: "Demarcus, Metor wants to see you!"
"Now?!" Demarcus swallowed hard.
"Now!" Antony nodded.
“Don't worry, it's nothing serious! Metor just heard that Demarcus has solved several problems for us, and out of curiosity, he wanted to see it and maybe he'll be rewarded! Antonio guaranteed after seeing everyone's concern.
Antony took Demarcus to a large house in the middle of the village and told the guard at the gate, "Demarcus, whom Metor wants to see, is here."
The guard looked at Demarcus curiously and said, "Metor currently has something important to do, please wait."
After a while, there was no movement inside.
Demarcus was still talking calmly to Antonio. Antonio was hurrying: "What does it matter that he hasn't finished yet, I'm going to exhort him!" After that, he came in and the guards stopped him: "Antonio, you want me to be scolded!"
Antonio stared at him and the guard finally relented: "I'm afraid of you, I'm going to go look again." He then turned around and ran towards the house.
In a few moments, he came out: "Come in, Metor is waiting for you." He said, but didn't dare look at Antonio.
Demarcus was about to enter when Antonio took him by the shoulder and said: “Metor sometimes has a bad temper. If he tells you something, don't argue with him and just listen."
Demarcus smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm not a kid."
Antony nodded. The conversation deepened her understanding of Demarcus, this young man is much more stable than his peers.
Seeing Demarcus enter the house, Antonio remembered: 'No, if he is not a boy, then who is a boy? Me?'
He laughed helplessly, and it seemed that this young man was not easily provoked. He turned to look at the guard and said, "Bokhos, you deliberately made us stay here."

“Oh Antonio, you should know. Besides Metor, who would do such boring things.”
"Hmph!"
“That young man is the one they call Wahdarr's 'favored'?! I think he seemed to understand what was going on, he was just making fun of me…”
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Demarcus certainly knew what was going on - he had seen it a lot in his previous life, bosses showing their authority by making them wait for hours on end and the more they adopt this method the less confident they are in his control. Was Metor such a person?
Demarcus smiled and walked across the small courtyard and into the main house.
"Leader Metor, the soldier Demarcus who ordered to come is here!"
"Ahead." A sharp, crisp voice came from the room.
Demarcus walked in, there was a man sitting in the middle of the room and still wearing his shining armor, but it didn't seem to add to his majesty, although if he shaved off his beard, he would definitely be more handsome.
Demarcus couldn't help but remember some of the bad rumors about Metor, like the ambiguous history between him and Artenus, Derfeck's aide. He suddenly got a little flustered: 'this person shouldn't look at me like that...'
Metor was also looking at Demarcus: a strong, tall, average-looking body, but also a slightly younger face without a beard, but he radiated an unusual temperament just by standing there.
“Hmm… I heard that you are the 'favored of God', so I want to ask you, are the Aserai sincere in their truce between us? Or do you have other ideas? Metor seemed to ask carelessly.
“Sorry, leader. I don't know!" Demarcus answered without thinking.
Demarcus's direct answer left Metor somewhat stunned, at last, he showed a slight smile: "So tell me, can we go home safely this time?"
"I dont know." Demarcus still answered candidly.
"Bastard!" Metor was furious and pushed back the chair: “You didn't tell the whole camp that you got the oracle from the god Wahdarr! You didn't tell the others that you know everything! Now you're not talking! Swindler!
Demarcus frowned: “Leader Metor, I am lucky to survive battle, but I have never claimed to be favored by god. This point, my teammates can prove it. I don't care what other people think and say, it's their business. As for an oracle, I have never said anything about it. Sometimes I just talk to my teammates about what could happen next, it's just that I was lucky in what I said, nothing more. Whether or not we can return home safely is a matter of concern for the leaders, we soldiers just want to get some comfort and encouragement by talking and chatting after every fight.”
After hearing this, Metor's first reaction was that this guy's eloquence was good and for a moment, he couldn't take the opportunity to retaliate, and calmly looked directly into Metor's eyes, so that Metor would feel his courage. .
Metor was a bit agitated and after a while, he just waved and said, “I'll look into what you said. In short, don't speculate on the Aserai, which will affect the morale of the soldiers."
Demarcus immediately bowed his head and obediently said, "Yes!"
Feeling better, Metor took a silver coin and said: “In any case, this time you came up with an idea to help our troops, this is my – Metor mercenary leader's reward for you. You must remember, the next time you have good ideas, come straight to me, I'll give you a reward!
Demarcus pretended to take it with delight: "Thank you, leader!"
Metor waved and let him out, watched him leave the house. Metor stared, Metor and Demarcus were in a working relationship, Metor had no right over his life or death, only the right to fire him. If he fires a smart soldier and goes to the other camps and ends up getting an important position, Metor would be the only one to suffer losses. Metor only wanted to take Demarcus down once, lest his influence in the camp spread and keep him in control of him. But from this encounter, it didn't seem like an easy task...
