《Exiled Kingdom》Chapter II

Clechus looked at the much thicker phalanx in the center of the enemy and saw that the enemy's left wing was longer than his own. Although he had fully supported Derfeck from the beginning, that didn't mean he would obey his orders. So he adamantly refused: “His Highness of him, I think we should first defeat the enemy's left wing, and then hit the enemy's center; this would be much safer.
“I know Dernotack, I understand the Aserai army, and I also understand your Vladian phalanx! Trust me, my friend, your army will easily defeat Dernotack's army! Although he has more troops, he is useless. We will still beat Dernotack!” Derfeck persuaded him.
Clechus stubbornly shook his head: “His Highness of him! I apologize, but I will not expose the phalanx flank to the enemy troops!”
Derfeck frowned and looked at Clechus, but he had no time to organize his words to persuade the other party. As for ordering them by force, the other party is a mercenary and not his men.
"Okay, just do what you said!" Derfeck turned his horse's head away from him. Then he yanked on the reins and turned back.
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
When the two armies were about 500 meters apart, the Vladian soldiers began to sing the song of Wahdarr, the god of war, and marched forward.
The two armies were less than 200 meters apart once they finished their song.
“Wahdarr!!!” The soldiers shouted in unison, then began to trot, then ran faster and faster… “boom! Boom! Boom!…” As tens of thousands of Vladian hoplites converged, their footsteps were like thunder gathering energy to break through the dark night like lightning!
As well as the few chariots that hurtled straight through the Vladian army, accompanied by screams, broken limbs, and finally disappearing into silence. The Aserai on the opposite side forgot to fire their arrows and raise their shields because they were completely scared away by the overwhelming sea of steel as the Vladian army approached.
When the two armies were more than a dozen meters apart, the Aserai collapsed as they turned and fled.

The Vladians did not expect that victory would come so quickly. So, with their abundant energy, the Vladians pursued their enemies with more vigor.
At first, captains like Laurenz kept reminding their teammates, “Stay in formation, don't run too fast! Stay in formation…”
But the team still dispersed completely, and all the Vladians eagerly chased after it.
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Derfeck, who is currently in the center, did not expect the victory of the right to come so quickly and, for a moment, was somewhat stunned.
“Derfeck the Great, Long Live!!!” The attendees had started waving their spears and shouted victory.
"His Highness of him, are we going to follow his example?" Artus asked him.
He shook his head and looked ahead to the left of him.
He knows very well that only by killing that man will he be able to attain the supreme crown.
"Messenger! Have the left led by Artenus stop and prepare for defense!" Derfeck immediately issued an order. He knew very well that his strongest force was the Vladian mercenaries; now that the Vladians had defeated the left wing of the enemy, he did not have to rush to let his left wing, which was obviously smaller than the enemy's, collide with the enemy's right. In the event of a quick defeat, the battle would be troublesome. Therefore, it would be better to wait as long as possible the return of the Vladian mercenaries who had pursued the defeated army, and victory would be in their hands.
But while patiently waiting for the enemy to come, the center of the other side stopped moving.
Soon, his expression changed as the center of the enemy began to split in two, with the left part changing direction to the left.
“Not good! They want to attack the Vladians!!” Artus yelled.
The scattered Vladian hoplites pursuing the defeated army would likely fall into chaos if they were attacked from behind by the enemy, causing the situation to reverse.
“Dernotack, how dare you change formation on the battlefield? Did you really think that because I have less cavalry, I won't dare to take the initiative to attack?!” Derfeck scoffed and quickly decided. He raised his spear and pointed forward: “Order the right to speed up! Knights, follow me!

"His Highness of him, please put on your helmet!" The attendant hastily handed over the helmet from him. Derfeck then ran off, attendants to his left and right running to catch up and protect him.
More than 800 cavalry formed a wedge-shaped formation and headed straight for King Aserai's central troops.
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Artagas, the commander of King Aserai's central troops, did not expect Derfeck to dare attack at this time and quickly deployed his cavalry to intercept. However, at this time, his army is changing position, so the large rotating infantry formation blocked the cavalry's advance, and pulling thousands of cavalry out of the gap in the formation would not be easy. Along with the galloping cavalry, Derfeck has already reached the Aserai.
With the burst of neighing horses, the hastily patched Aserai army's cavalry defense was instantly torn apart.
Then, like a sharp knife, Derfeck's cavalry rushed into King Aserai's core troops who were turning around.
Derfeck was brave and fierce; He used to hunt black bears alone. Birds of the same plumage fly together, as his cavalry and his followers are also warriors. Facing the back of his enemies, they didn't even waste their spears*. Instead, they use their horse's high-speed charge to break through the enemy formation and crush the enemy. (Because there were no stirrups at that time, and when the cavalry on the move stabbed the enemy, they had to let go immediately, or the reactive force would push them back),
Shocked by the defeat on the left, the leading Aserai infantry began to flee, and Derfeck's cavalry took advantage of the situation to hunt them down. Suddenly, Derfeck saw King Aserai's chariot in the dust. Due to the initial collapse of the main force on the left side of Aserai's core troops, a large gap was formed causing King Aserai, who was in the rear, to be naturally exposed.
"Left!!" Derfeck was so excited that he swung his spear to bypass Aserai's central troops that had come to rescue and slanted through to King Aserai's rear troops. Afterwards, dozens of cavalry followed.
“Come quickly! Protect the King!!” The general of King Aserai's imperial guard, Artagas, shouted as he took the lead to ward off the nearby enemy cavalry and intercept them.Facing a swarm of enemies, Derfeck was not afraid; he drew the sword from him Vladiana and held the horse's belly with both legs. When he saw the right moment, the spear in his right hand deflected the spear that Artagas stabbed fiercely. He then extended the sword in his left hand, and without any effort, he easily slashed Artagas's neck with the Vladian sword and the help of the horse's forward momentum…..
Derfeck killed several people with his excellent swordsmanship and riding skills. Soon, his cavalry caught up with him and blocked the other enemy horses for him. Between him and Dernotack, King Aserai, only the royal guards remained around the chariot. He could even clearly see the frightened face of his brother.
Thinking of his imprisonment and thinking of him occupying the throne that should be his (It's just Derfeck's imagination, old king Aserai didn't even think of passing the throne to him), rage burned in his chest: “Dernotack! ” He roared and threw the spear in his hand; With the sound of an exclamation, the spear flew through the space between the royal guards and struck King Aserai in the chest.
King Aserai screamed and fell from his chariot.
Suddenly, chaos broke out once they saw King Aserai fall. Derfeck finally took his anger out on him, and he laughed wildly, as if the Aserai crown had arrived, but he didn't hear the cavalry behind him calling urgently, “Your Highness, beware! BE AWARE!!…"
The laughter came to an abrupt end. A javelin flew out of the chaotic crowd and hit him in the eye.
Without saying a word, Derfeck quickly fell off his horse...

A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
