《Journey of Vessels》Day 20 Part 3: Construction and Laws

The sun rises and Diana pushes a layer of sand off her chest. The heat is scorching for this time of the year but then again... this is a trial so anything can go south real fast. Diana releases a pulse of law around her feet and stands up from the sandy terrain with ease. It's too bright and she rubs her eye-

Diana "What the? Is this... a skill panel? Wait, where the fuck are the words?"

Diana reaches out to grab the yellow object but such flesh can grasp this mysterious object. Growing frustrated, The Aspect of Law begins punching, kicking, and biting the panel. Altas, all she received were mouthfuls of sand.

Diana "Yuck! Fuck! Come on! Do something already! You stupid floating square son of a bitch!"

She takes a deep breath and goes for a pinch- It worked! Diana lets out a burst of laughter and spins around. In the middle of the euphoria, something dawned on her. This thing... is like the lens on sunglasses. She moves it between her eyes and the sun.

Diana "Oh yeah! Fucking score! Now there is some shit! Let's see here..."

Hello, Warrior of Law or The Aspect of Law. There is a task I need you to do. Build the three constructs then decide your law of the conflict that is to come. Fight or Endure. Your choice.

Diana "Err, what? Man, I don't know this shit! Can you fucking tune down the smart-ass writing? The only person I can accept that from is the boss. And you ain't my boss!"

... Fine then. You. Collect. Parts. Build. Your. Enemy. Choose. Fight. Or. Endure.

Diana "I'm not an animal you know! Jesus! But I get it now. Where can I fight the parts?"

... Just search lol. Good luck ;)

Diana "Hey, come back! I'm not done!-Shit... too late I guess. Well, I need to get moving."

Diana decides to keep venturing in a straight line. No matter of long it is, just like the moon before the sun doesn't seem to budge in the slightest. Exhaustion creeps into the muscles of her legs and she stumbles to the floor. Among the sand, there sees a piece of wood sticking from the ground. Diana stands up and pulls it out. It is a tree trunk made of oak, its height is about her height, and its width is twice as big. Strangely, it is unaffected by the heat. A beam of light shines upon it and reflects off to the distance...

Diana "Those must be where the other pieces are! Hold up! Mama's coming for ya!"

She hoists the trunk over her back and begins sprinting. Her search results in a giant sunflower head, four deer-like legs made of bamboo, and a tail made of woven vines. She arranges them in a 2d iteration of a quadrupedal animal, using the trunk as the creature's torso. The parts converge... the entity stares down at her.

|I AM PHOTSOSYTHESA, THE FLORAL CONSTRUCT. CHOOSE YOUR ROOTS. HUNTING OR BE HUNTED."

Di: "You know... I have been thinking about what the boss said to me yesterday. Maybe it's time for me to learn how to constrain myself. Alright, I'll endure your attacks! Bring it on!"

VERY WELL THEN

Immediately, the construct grows to the size of skyscrapers. Every part of her body says that she should run but her determination overcomes them all. Its enormous foot slams down and she holds it back. Diana can hear the bones within her wrists cracking from the weight. Desperate, she transfers the power around her feet to her hands, causing less friction. Slowly but surely, The Aspect of Law slips out of the creature's stomp.

EXCELLENT. NOW FOR MY NEXT GROWTH STATE.

Another beam of light comes down and strikes the titan. She sees new legs sprouting out from the side of its body. Diana concentrates and makes a line of sand in front of her have highly more friction. Leg after leg, her body weaves around them with no trouble.

Diana "Okay, you are fucking insane. Please tell me that's it!"

NO. HERE'S THE NEXT ATTACK.

Photosythesa shifts its flowery head at Diana... the seeds moving... no more like squirming. Diana runs away as a hail storm of seeds rain upon her. There is a massive rock formation in front of her. Taking shelter behind the object, she sees that some of the seeds are shot past it. Taking a closer look, they look like leeches. However, these little guys die seconds later from the burning sun.

Diana "Okay that is fucking gross. Hey, Photo-or whatever you are! Are we done?!"

IT'S PHOTOSYTHESA! AND NO... HERE IS MY FINAL ATTACK. BE READY!

The vines on Photosythesa's tail unravel, and each end of fiber sprouts a thorn. These strands fly towards Diana and break the rock she stands behind. Diana runs and runs then an idea pops into her head. She heads back toward Photosythesa, but the construct's legs don't respond to her presence. Diana runs around them, hoping for the vines to get tangled. However, she sees that the leg fold open allowing the vines to slither through. She slips and several vines stab her right leg and then the rest of her limbs.

Diana "Dammit! What the hell are these things doing? Wait... no. NO! Not my muscles!"

She watches as her biceps shrivel into a pathetic shell of their former self, like rolled-up toothpaste. Diana begins to cry and through sheer rage, she tears out the vines attached to her arms. She bites the thorns off them and begins sucking back the nutrients faster than Photosythesa can.

WOAH. WOAH! I YIELD. I YIELD! YOU WIN OKAY!

Diana "Awesome, what's my reward bitch! It's better to be awesome!"

Photosythesa releases the vines off her leg and they go to the creature's back. There she sees them pulling on something. Diana waits... and is greeted by a small badge. It is a small orange sunflower glued onto an oak circular frame.

Diana "Is this a fucking joke to you?"

JESUS. I'M NOT DONE YET OKAY? LET ME EXPLAIN... THIS TALISMAN ALLOWS YOU TO CONJURE UP MY ATTACK ONCE DURING THE REST OF THE TRIAL. SO USE IT WISELY.

Diana "Wait, where do I find the other- FUCK! That fucker's already gone! I guess I should just keep searching. What a pain in the ass?!"

Diana puts the talisman on the left side of her chest and walks north. Traveling through countless dunes of sand, she stumbles upon an oasis. The texture of the water is odd and misty white smoke constantly ejects from its surface. Diana touches the cloud and feels a chill going up her arm. She comes closer and touches the liquid itself...

Diana "Ouch! What the fuck is this shit?! Not doing that again!"

Diana tries rubbing her hands together to warm it up but it causes more pain. She then waves it around in the air and notices that the mysterious smoke avoids her hand. It is going in a very specific direction and so she smiles. Diana swings her arm again and again until a clear path is laid before her.

Diana "Awesome! Guardian number two! Here I come!"

Diana sprints and discovers an array of strange oddities.

Six pairs of arms that are made of glass and their interior are divided into three sections, each containing a strange clear liquid that Diana thinks is just water.

A large glass barrel with bulky spikes around a fair portion of its exterior. Inside are seven layers of liquid stacks on top of each other and all with different colors.

The last object is a glass head with a shape similar to the ones iron maidens have. The inside is split from the center into 8 sections and each containing different powders.

Diana "Okay and now I should put together this fucking weird ass Russian doll?"

She assembles and creates... a large glass doll with three arms on each side.

HEY! I'M A FUCKING A RUSSIAN DOLL! YOU SNIVELING LITTLE LAB RAT! I'M CHEM'TA, THE GLASS MAIDEN

Diana "I don't know, man. You look like a giant Russian doll to me. Reminds me of the one I had when I was six."

OKAY. WE CAN STAY HERE AND DISCUSS WHAT IS AND ISN'T A DOLL. DO YOU WANT TO START THE CHALLENGE OR NOT?!

Diana "Sure. Sure. Just get on with it."

WHY YOU LITTL- CALM DOWN, CHEM'TA. BE PRESENTABLE AND CALM DOWN. NOW THEN... CHOOSE YOUR EXPERIMENT, JERK BAG. DO THE TESTING OR BE THE TEST SUBJECT.

Diana "Well I did pretty well on the latter. Might as well continue the streak. I'll be the test subject!"

GOOD! I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD SAY THAT. NOW PREPARE FOR PAIN!

Each of its arms creates a fist and begins pummeling down Diana. She guards, protecting her upper torso. Chem'ta speeds up and Diana begins to feel the weight of each punch getting heavier by the sec. In contrast to her unbeatable will, the sand beneath her gives up and sinks her feet. Chem'ta notices this and hits the side of her hip, knocking her over. Chem'ta looms over Diana, raining down blows all over. Bruises appear left and right, she now seeks escape. Reducing the friction on her back, she pushes her legs against the sand.

HUH?! HEY, THAT WAS PRETTY SMART. GOOD JOB!

Diana "Don't good job me! You asshole! I nearly died! Dammit, I should have selected the first option then I could crush your glass-looking ass into dust!"

WOAH NOW. SOMEONE'S MAD. HEHEHEHE. TOO BAD BECAUSE WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED. LET'S TRY THIS ON!

The construct's arms shake like the wings of a fly, there are now holes between each of their sections. The liquid mixes and bubbles up... the arms glow orange like heated glass. Chem'ta then performs a wavy motion with them, the act is similar to a Hawaiian dancer.

Diana "Hey, what the fuck are doing?! Are you mocking me or something?! Now is not the time to dance!"

CALM DOWN. THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED. THAT IS TO C.H.I.L.L. CHILL. WHAT ABOUT YOU JOIN ME?

Diana "Okay, now that you just remind me of a "certain" douchebag. Fine for once, I'll try to "chill". "

Each step spells suspicion, Diana is prepared for anything and as she gets closer, the dancing becomes fluent and the large doll begins spinning. Chem'ta head rattles and three pairs of arms aim for her eyes. Diana shoots her arm like an arrow, covering her face just in time. However, instead of punches, these feel more like whips... and there's this unbearable heat, cooking her arms like a roasted kebab.

Diana "AAAAAAAAARGGGH! What was that?! YOU DICK! THAT FUCKING HURTS!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HOLY SHIT! YOU ARE THE DUMBEST PERSON I HAVE EVER MET! THROUGHOUT MY EONS EXISTING IN CONTEXTUAL SPACE, I HAVE NEVER MET ANYONE MORE STUPID THAN YOU. OH WAIT THEN THERE WAS THIS ONE GUY... ERR NEVERMIND. ANYWAY, READY FOR YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE?

Diana "After all of this is done. Can I fucking kill you, you fucking glass cup?"

HA! YOU CAN TRY LOL. ANYWAY, THINGS ARE GOING TO GET CRAZY!

Hiss. Diana sees holes forming around the construct's body and head. Liquids and powders pour out, levitating around Chem'ta. The pungent smell of those substances alone makes Diana want to run but she doesn't until... they start chasing her. The instinct of a human kick into overdrive as Diana runs with all her energy. Feeling a sense of doom, The Aspect of Law takes out her talisman and whispers... But, it seems her effort is in vain. The chemicals mix, forging up a pillar of dark smoke.

HELLO, BIG DUMB GIRL! YOU THERE? HUH, SHE'S UNCONSCIOUS. WELL TOO BAD... LOOKS LIKE WE GONNA WAIT FOR ANOTHER EON UNTIL WE FIND ANOTHER SUCCESSOR. LET'S DISPOSE OF THE BODY. I'M PRETTY SURE I'M IN RANGE. LET'S SEE MAYBE FOUR OR FIVE NUCLEAR BOMBS WILL DO.

Chem'ta cracks open its own body, mixing everything inside into a gooey and colorful slurry. The mixture rises in size, blowing a massive prismatic bubble. Tick... it explodes in a shape of a massive pyramid, leaving a square crater. Wait... there's a burning forest of bamboo near the outskirts of the crater. Diana lays within its center safe and sound. Time passes and she wakes up.

Diana "Woah! Th... That was a close one. Thanks, Photosythesa! I owe you one for this."

She leaves the safety of the forest and sees the massive crater. Diana crawls out of the crater and looks around.

Diana "Jesus, that bastard was crazier than I thought. Good thing I'm alive though."

Seriously! You're alive! How?!

The puny voice is coming from near her feet. She looks down and finds a small glass ball. Diana picks it up and begins crushing it.

Ow ow ow! Stop! That hurts, you jerk bag!

Diana "Ah! Not so tough now are ya?! Now beg for mercy! Give me a reward! NOW!!"

Fine! The reward is me! I'll show you where the remaining pieces are and you can use one of my attacks against big brother.

Diana "Wait, big brother? You guys are siblings?"

Well, duh! Of course, but we can't tell you about our father. If we mention his name, he'll come here and destroy us all. Please, don't force me!

Diana "Jesus, this father of yours makes some as powerful as you scared. Then I won't do it, besides I already have enough trouble with you."

Diana tucks the ball into her pockets and returns to the field once more. She discovers a giant clock the size of a car. Stuffing the object inside her inventory is hard but she makes it work. Moving further, she discovers a humongous muscular gold torso and stuffs this in her inventory well. As she is stuffing it in, she notices the numbers of a clock arranged around its center but the hands of the clock are nowhere to be found. Traveling even further, she discovers a pair of golden arms and legs, each having the three types of clock arms along the back. Diana pulls down the head and torso, and they fly toward each other, giving birth to a massive homunculus.

WHO WOKE ME FROM MY SLUMBER? ISN'T YOU, MIGHTY WARRIOR OF LAW? UMMM... HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN?.... FAR TOO LONG... IT SEEMS AS THOUGH I REMEMBERED YOU DIFFERENTLY. BUT THAT SHOULDN'T MATTER. MY NAME IS PHYSISTOFIST, THE TIME WARDEN. NOW, PICK YOUR DESTINY. WILL YOU FACE THE CRUEL CURRENT OF TIME OR WILL YOU ACCEPT IT WITH OPEN ARMS?

Diana "Wow, that's a mouthful. At least you're way more respectful than the last guy. I choose to accept your challenge!"

HOW BRAVE VERY! HERE I COME!

The space around the construct distorts like ripples on surface water. Diana sees Physistofist walk at a snail's pace, but in the next second... his fist is in touch of her nose, crushing it. Diana falls over from the pain, feeling like a nerve around the back of her head was severed. She tears two pieces off her tank top and plugs her nose. Diana tries to run but she falls over as if her timing is off. On the floor, Diana waves her hand and notices that it is slower than usual.

Diana "Time-changing bullshit. Thank god! I chose to endure!"

YES, IT WAS INDEED A WISE CHOICE. IF YOU WERE TO FIGHT ME... LET'S JUST SAY THAT WE WOULD BE HERE FOR YEARS. OR MAYBE A FEW SECONDS. ARE READY FOR MY NEXT ATTACK?

Diana nods and stands back up. The construct is winding his punch but it keeps going and going until its entire arm is glowing yellow. Diana shakes in his presence as he throws a punch so strong that it levels the entire desert landscape in all directions. His attack burrows a hole right through her stomach and Diana falls to her knees. She gives him a look of determination before dying right then and there.

THAT WAS MY LAST CHALLENGE AND YOU PASSED IT THOUGH AT THE COST OF YOUR LIFE. HOW ADMIRABLE? PERHAPS... YOUR TIME ISN'T UP JUST YET? I'LL GRANT YOU A SECOND CHANCE!

His palm aims at her body, and millions of ticking clocks appear around it. All of them have their own design and tick rate, down to the microseconds. The hole on her stomach reforms and life returns to her eyes. Diana looks up at him and then to her mortal hands. For the first time ever, she cries without consequence.

Diana "I-I-I... died d-didn't I? I AM SO FUCKING WEAK! HOW CAN I PROTECT MY FRIENDS LIKE THIS?!"

ACKNOWLEDGE OF WEAKNESS AND THE DESIRE TO PROTECT. A VERY RARE TRAIT INDEED. ALTHOUGH THE TRIAL IS OVER, I MAY HAVE AN OFFER THAT MIGHT INTEREST YOU. WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRAIN WITH ME?

Diana "Wait... really. Are you sure? Is there a drawback?"

THE ONLY COST IS TIME, MY DEAR. LOTS AND LOTS OF TIME. BUT DON'T WORRY. YOU WON'T NOTICE IT PASSING. WHAT DO YOU SAY?

Diana bows her head, accepting his offer. From then on, she and Physistofist train in the flat desert for three years. The effects of training cause the muscles in her body to contort and morph into terrifying forms. It can be said that her back now resembles a demonic dragon.

Diana "Thank you, master... for all these years. I feel like I can protect everyone now thanks to you."

...

Diana "Oh right. You're dead. I'm leaving now... this is goodbye."

A portal appears before her and a single tear is shed as she leaves the landscape.
