《An Ancient's Leisure》Chapter 49

Johnny lets out a sigh of defeat and sits on the chair.
A meter tall goblin demon sits across from him, pushing up its glasses to read his file on Johnny. The goblin clears his throat. “Ah-hughmm… I'm Rondo, I'll be the the devil's representative for today.” He says before looking at Johnny then back to his file. “It says here, you have gotten bored of North to South, and you wish to expand your horizons and explore from East to West.” The goblin says.
Annoyance flashes on Johnny's face. I hate dealing with the devil… He thinks bitterly. “Yes.” He says, confirming with as little words as possible.
The goblin clears his throat again before continuing to read the file. “Bound by heaven’s rule, Johnny Jordan wishes to take the devil on as his master to take the blame from the heavens for his desire to sin and to once more gain freedom.” He reads aloud, his words piercing into Johnny’s soul.
Johnny winces. “Yes.” He says.
The goblin clears his throat again. “Alright. That settles it. The devil knows the work you’ve done for heaven, you always follow orders, going through hell or high water to accomplish the task… The devil… He wants the same from you… But this time, you won’t have righteousness on your side.” He says.
Johnny lets out a groan and holds his head. He felt a headache coming on. “Yes. I understand.” He says.
The goblin takes out a contract and pushes it to Johnny. “Do you want to read it?” He asks.
“Go fuck yourself.” Johnny says.
The goblin lets out a sigh. “A standard blood contract won’t work. The devil requires a soul imprint.” He says.
Johnny lets out another groan. “You’re a bitch.” He says, not knowing what else to say to the goblin. Johnny gathers his soul energy and makes an imprint on the contract.

The goblin smiles, putting the contract away. “As you know, the devil can’t change your circumstances, or you would be unwilling. The devil can take away your whole cultivation path and your vision from the peak, but he doubts you would allow it. As such, you are still bound by heaven’s rule. How far your reach can go while still bound is up to you. Do you just wish for the order? If it’s just the order will you defy it? Or do you need a reason?” He says.
A struggle appears on Johnny’s face. “Fuck.” He says, taking a deep breath. “I just need the order.” He says, watching his soul leaving his body, abandoning himself and the path he took to get to where he was.
The goblin clears his throat once more. “Good. It’s all–” He says before being cut off.
“Yeah, yeah. It’s all in the contract, the devil knows my heart yada-yada.” Johnny says impatiently.
The goblin gives Johnny a stern stare. “Then do you wish to know your limits, the lines you won’t dare to cross.” He asks.
Johnny stands up. “You can go fuck yourself. I wish to know how you’ll fuck yourself.” He says before leaving.
Johnny leaves and the goblin lets out a chuckle. “Oh, Mr. Jordan. It is not I that wishes to fuck myself.” He says, finding the matter amusing.
...
...
Johnny lays on his bed and lets out a sigh, processing the events of today. Ultimately, the devil was a bastard. Johnny knew this. But he was a necessary evil. Him and god, they were like two hands jerking each other off. The devil had hell and god had the heavens. People needed heaven as a goal, as a hope, or as an escape. And in the same way, people needed hell… Many things could happen in life, and there were many reasons why people would choose suffering over heaven. They… Just needed it. Johnny always thought it was weird. For some reason the good always wanted to go to hell and the evil always wanted to go to heaven. It was fucked up. And the meaning of those two words also sometimes changed. Sometimes heaven was hell and hell was heaven. Sometimes justice is wrought upon evil, sometimes good is rewarded. But evil sometimes succeeds. Imagine a sinner getting into heaven? What would he do there? But all of these things were part of the plan, the intention of these two hands jerking each other off.

As for where Johnny stood amongst all this shit… He was like everyone else… He was also trying to figure out. What was good and what was bad. What he wanted and what he wanted to stay away from.
But what made Johnny stand out… Simply… It was that he was insane… Or what a normal person would call insane.
Johnny has been in situation before where the righteous thing was to commit evil. Standing before that decision it was like he couldn’t do anything else. Even if someone gave him a year to think it through, the only thing he could do was commit that crime. That’s how tightly god and the devil were in control. There were many times in Johnny’s long life where he just wanted to flip the table and say fuck it. But things were always weirdly arranged for him, so that you couldn’t say no to what was next.
Wisdom truly was the fruit of good and evil. So much so, that Johnny wished he was an animal. He desperately craved ignorance. But once you’re on the path, there’s no going back. There’s only forward… And Johnny knew all too well, that there was always something else. A reason to take a step. A desire to fulfill. A curiosity lingering on the edges of your mind. There was no end to heaven and hell. No end to the expansion of the mind.
Johnny lights a cigarette and takes a deep breath. “Well, the deed is done. I might as well go fuck around.” He says before standing up. For some reason, he now had a serious desire to explore the world…
