《Dying for a Cure》Interview Report from Clarice Finkman

Father Clepses, I have enclosed my internal report on the latest Outworlder: a boy that calls himself “Vince”. This is one that I advise the church take direct action on. If an extermination order cannot be approved, assigning a Paladin to watch him should be a priority. If that cannot be approved, hiring a Shadow to eliminate him would be my personal recommendation. He represents an existential threat to the advancement of the heretical sciences of this university beyond what the church will be capable of handling.
Associate Professor of Outworlder Studies Clarice Finkman, Shaping College, Oxenraith University, Oxenraith, Raith, Falon-Sten-Raith.
Physical Characteristics: This subspecies of orgkin (henceforth referred to as “human”) is physically unthreatening. Despite claiming to be a young adult at full height, subject reaches a height that native rissians reach at [9 orbital rotations]. In all respects, humans appear short, frail, and physically weak compared to rissians.
Note: This subject is dying of an uncurable disease, so his frailty might not be widely applicable to all humans. If there are humans that rival rissians in size, their threat assessment would only be increased.
Mental Faculties: We do not possess tests capable of determining human intelligence. All mathematical puzzles he was given were solved easily, in moments. He commented that even our most advanced mathematical models were known “even by human children.” Short term memory was the highest ever measured at any university I am aware of. Subject was able to recite fourteen random digits before errors were introduced. He claimed he is “not even that good” and that he knows other humans that “could probably do twice that many.” Spatial rotation of three dimensional objects was done intuitively. Subject claims he can see imagined objects in his mind, and this is “common” among humans.
Skill Analysis: Subject possesses perhaps the first duplicate Skill every recorded, a cooperative, despite claiming he is not a twin, triplet, or other multi-birth child. While the Skill is already known to the Brokers, it is not known what inventive strategies such a mind might create to unlock potentials not yet imagined. Overcharging MP levels is one of the most exploitative strategies currently employed by my colleagues in the Shaping College.

Note: Subject grew extremely nervous and agitated when questioned directly about his Skill. He claimed magic is new to him and he doesn’t understand it, which was ruled as a truthful statement by the Triplet Medallion. I believe he is hiding something, but could not dig deeper without risking my cover.
Personality Profile: Subject possesses strong risk factors for developing Black Magic. This subject appears not to have done so, but any future humans to arrive in Earris should be considered Black Magic apostates until proven otherwise. Resentment at his illness, resentment at being summoned to Earris, resentment at the dangers of our world, resentment at the reduced standard of living: all of these, the subject carries within him, though he tries to hide them. When allowed to speak freely, he ranted about how much stronger, smarter, and more sophisticated humans are than rissians. My Empath Sight detected deep-seated anger during this speech, which could motivate violence against others. When not asked to think about his place in our world, subject was able to maintain composure and control his emotional responses.
Cultural Profile: This category of questions exposed the most concerning details. In the absence of this cultural background, humans would be no more threatening than the next most intelligent orgkin subspecies—Subspecies #3. Subject claims that humans possess weapons called “guns”, and while he did not volunteer a description of them, he claims they would overpower all combat Skills and Brands he has yet observed during his time on Earris. Based on the scant details provided, these are weapons created for the sole and express purpose of killing other humans: manufactured Black Magic! Worse yet, subject claims humans killed their god in a horrifying execution method known as “crucifixion” (I do not advise looking up the details). This ritual murder appears to have granted them their god’s stolen power in a form of magic they refer to as “technology” which they wield through objects known as “nukes”. This is a power capable of a destructive force equivalent to Marketh’s Judgement, though he claims humans are capable of activating it tens of thousands of times.

Conclusion: Not only does the race of humans represent a threat to the social order of Earris, but this specific human holds the potential to combine his knowledge of “technology” with Skill Scholars working at the cutting edge of the magical sciences if he is allowed to continue to live. If he is able to reproduce “nukes” for the Broker’s Guild the church would lose their position of militaristic dominance, at best upsetting the political order of our world, and at worst bringing about its complete destruction.
Recommendation: Immediate termination or recruitment.
Minimum Recommended Action: Continue observation, and proceed with termination only if he is recruited by Dileth, the Brokers, or the university scholars. His knowledge must not be turned against the church.
PS: A second message will follow when I learn where Vince wishes to travel when he leaves Oxenraith.
PPS: Please send instructions for a new dead drop site. I think I might have been followed.

Ortus (Old Version)
This is an old version of the heavily edited and rewritten Ortus This is the story of a woman named Riza. Riza is a woman who wakes up in a forest with nothing, remembering nothing, and on the cusp of death. The only thing she has is a weapon stuck in her side and, after a tangle with a wild boar, something called 'life aspect'. Little does she know that life magic is considered a dead-end branch and is largely outlawed across the world. None of this matters to her, of course. For one, even if someone tried to tell her, she doesn't know the language. Number two, have you heard about the sunk cost fallacy? Riza is not some chosen one, nor is given any boon she doesn't deserve. Instead, she's smart and methodical, and experiements on how to maximise every opportunity, every ability, presented to her. She doesn't just take things at face-value but instead explores just what limitations there are. This often involves maths.

Dogs that seem more aware than they ought to, sentient plant-life, nomads aimlessly wandering...Rescued by a farming colony called Community, Alex meets Eva Monroe. She is mysterious, but also familiar somehow. When Alex sees strange lights in the fields, he begins asking questions that no one seems willing to answer. Together, Alex and Eva discover a secret. A secret that no one in Community saw coming...or did they? I will also post some of this story on Royal Road.Excerpt: To the right of the road the land rose sharply to a hill. Alex's gut tightened and fluttered as he realized their current location was not a wise one; low ground was a disadvantage in a conflict. Alex had a bad feeling, a hunch that he wasn't the only one searching. His attention was drawn to the top of the hill. Something was up there. They were being watched.
