Sam set down the scroll he’d been studying, and said, “It’s going to take seven days for the physical modifications.”

Jen nodded, and commented, “Let me guess, one day for each race?”

“Exactly,” replied Sam, “The first day should be the ‘easiest’, because the modifications will be for humans, and should only need to improve any of my current senses that are lacking.”

Jen grinned, as she replied, “You’ve been lacking any sense for years!”

“Ha! That might be true,” laughed Sam, “After the human changes, the order of modifications that will follow are dwarf, gnome, elf, goblin, orc, and then troll… I think.”

Tamako asked, “Why are you not sure about the order?”

Sam shrugged his shoulders, and answered, “I could fully interpret the portion of the scroll relating to humans, but I couldn’t perceive the full content of the sections of the scroll pertaining to the other races. The goblin, orc, and troll sections were extremely incomplete due to my current perception, so much so, that I’m not even confident I’ve identified which section belongs to which race. I’m hoping that the changes the scroll will make in me, will actually allow me to perceive this type of information.”

Jen looked to Sam with an idea, and said, “Hey… why don’t you take a mental screenshot of the scroll so you can review it again after it’s disintegrated upon activation.”

Sam nodded, “Good idea. I’ll do that. Not to be a pessimist, but I don’t think the parts that I can’t currently perceive will show up in the screenshot, but worth a try.”

Tamako was still trying to get “comfortable” with Jen, Sam, and her new life, so she forced herself to be “uncomfortable” as she laid back on the bed placing her head in Jen’s lap, looked up at her, and asked, “So what’s the plan?”

Jen could feel the stiffness in Tamako’s body as she tried to be relaxed, so she casually ran her fingers through Tamako’s hair, as her mind briefly flicked to the scars across Tamako’s body, which were the only times her father ever touched her. Jen’s mind refocused quickly, and asked Sam, “When do you want to get started?”

Sam replied, “I’m ready now. I’ve already given Tamako the ring with everything I’m willing to sell.”

“O.K. let’s get some rest tonight and get started first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll be taking care of you, and Tamako will be dealing with Melvin over the next week or so.” Jen looked at Tamako, and continued, “Unfortunately, that means you’re going to have to take care of all the boring crap.”

Tamako turned so she could see Sam, and said to Jen, “Better than having to take care of him crying, and most likely all his literal crap and vomit from what he’s about to go through.”

Jen gave a gross face, and said, “Ugg! There must be some kind of cleaning spell we can buy.”

Sam looked guilty as he nodded, and replied, “Someday we’ll find one, and maybe it could clean our clothes too. But seriously, thanks boss.”
