Calling ''.

Caoimhe sat on her bed, surrounded by papers and textbooks. Her hair was piled on top of her head to get it out of her face, and she was wearing the blue light glasses she'd borrowed from her high school best friend, Nia, and conveniently forgot to return. The puke-y UCF sweatshirt and cookie monster pants were on. It was a cramming day.

She was grateful for a distraction. Anything was better than staring at the blank word document on her screen or the messy handwritten notes she'd already gone over a hundred times.

Caoimhe was pretty sure Drew was rewatching some of their recorded lectures and crying in their room. Katie was picking up dry cleaning for her internship. They were all miserable.

" ." Clay answered, his voice calm and even. "?"

"My brain's melting." She whined. "I've typed one word in forty-five minutes and it was the word green. The worst part is, I misspelled it. I typed gern. What the fuck is gern?"

"," he laughed.

"I can't take a break if I technically never started!" Caoimhe groaned.

"I despise you."

"." he joked. "?"

"Anthropology 104." Caoimhe shut her laptop, throwing it at a pile of clothes on the floor. "It's stupid. Please entertain me."

"Tell me about your day so far."

"."

"Mhm. And then what?"

"" He paused as Caoimhe started booing him. ""

"Oh. Sorry." She wasn't sorry, she was doing her job.

"You're goddamn right it can't. Switch to FaceTime."

"Technicalities, honey," she waved her hand even though he couldn't see it yet. "Just do it."

Incoming FaceTime from ''

"There," Caoimhe said as he took her in. "This is what a melted brain looks like. I feel like you had to see it to truly understand what I'm going through."

He took four FaceTime photos and she nearly threw her phone.

"?!" Clay exclaimed after she yelled at him. "."

"They're my friend's from high school. She's a chemist or something at Duke University now, so I think me stealing her glasses in senior year was a fair trade. She got a successful career and a promising future, and I got less headaches."

Caoimhe pretended to think. "Maybe I should email her my Animal Jam login so she can enjoy the perks of my membership as an apology."

He stared at her in genuine concern and disbelief.

Caoimhe flipped him off. "I've had it since 2012. I'm not a barbarian."

"Enough." She hung up quickly before he could ask more questions. It had been more than twenty minutes, Alex could have him. He didn't need to know she'd spent $58 dollars a year on a video game for nine years. It was one of the only times she'd consider other gamers to be good.
