Just yesterday when I lay on my bed, I was the happiest girl in the world. Today, I wasn't.
I'm not unhappy because of him. I could never be unhappy with him, his smile made me forget everything. What upset me was what he told me.
It wasn't a word, not a sentence but a bunch of sentences that tried to make me understand something that I wish to not understand.
I let out a sigh and checked my phone to see the time.
I was late. I usually wake up early to help out in the kitchen.
I groan and get out of bed and walked into the shower to get ready for the day. I set my hair and decided to go with a jumper and my leggings.
I closed the door of my room and walked to the stairs. I could hear everybody from the dining room, I without making much noise walked into the room.
"Good Morning Holly!" Jessica greets me. "Morning Jessica." I greet her with a smile and sat beside her.
I greet Peter, Jesse, Michael and James as well. While I poured myself some coffee, I noticed Jasper walk into the room. I immediately looked down at my mug and nothing else. It would be worse since I realised he's sitting right in front of me.
"Ah, there you two are!" I heard Sarah exclaim as she came with Juliet with trays stacked with waffles. "I was about to tell the twins to call you two." She looked at me and then at Jasper. "You two were tired when you came home yesterday." She set the waffles on the table.
"Did you have fun, Holly?" She asks me, I nod my head and smile. "I did," I say. I saw him smile but I didn't look at him for long.
Once everyone was seated, we helped each other with handing out the items of breakfast. I ate my waffles and laughed a little at Jessica's and Jesse's paint mess up right after we left yesterday.
Breakfast was done, I helped Juliet in clearing the table. I put the dishes in the dishwasher while Juliet wiped the table. Sarah looked down at the recipe books that lay open in front of her on the kitchen counter. She must be deciding what to make for lunch.
I wash my hand in the sink and dry my hands on one of the kitchen towels. I thought of helping Sarah with lunch but just as I approached her, I saw James standing at the entrance of the kitchen.
I smile and walk towards him. I got down on both my knees in front of him and he smiles. "What's up bud?" I ask him.
"I'm bored." He sighs. "Will you play with me?" He asks me in his cutest way.
"Sure, what do you want to play?" I ask him.
"I'll show you!" He jumps with excitement. "Come Holly!" He continues to jump.
"Okay okay." I calm him a bit. I stood back on my feet and picked him up. He sits on my arm and with my other arm, I made sure he wouldn't fall. "Where are we going?" I ask him.
"My room!" He cheered, I laugh and we made our way out of the kitchen. I climbed the stairs carefully. It took time but we made it up the stairs. I turned to James' room and I saw Jasper come out of his room. He looked at me but I shifted my sight from him to the little boy I was holding.

"Jasper!" Jasper came to where I was standing. He ran his fingers through James' hair. "Hey James, what are you doing?" He asks him.
"Holly and I are going to play," James tells him. "Really? You wanted to play some ball with me?" Jasper slightly pouts. Oh gosh, that was just cute to see him pout.
"No. I play with Holly." He told his brother. Jasper nods his head and I reached for the door. I close the door behind me and let James down. He ran as fast as he could to his shelf and pulled out a box.
I sat down on the carpet and he came and placed the box in front of me. "Is this what you want to do?" I ask him, he nods his head with a smile. I took the box in my hand and checked it out.
It was a build your car box.
He wanted my help in setting the car up. I smile and open the box, James starts to clap his hands when he saw me open the box, I laugh a little and opened the box and set the materials out. He patiently sat there till I was done.
This kid is just too cute.

The day went by fast and Jasper and I haven't spoken at all. I was being silly but he knew that I hate that topic.
I was helping Juliet clear the table after dinner. We had a late dinner today since we decided to watch a movie in the afternoon after lunch. A movie became two movies and then three.
By the time we were done with everything in the kitchen, everybody else was in their rooms getting ready to sleep.
I said goodnight to Juliet and Sarah after we climbed the stairs and I turned right to head to my room.
I opened the door and switched on the lights. I closed the door and walked to the cupboard pulled my night clothes out.
I dressed for the night, washed my face and put my hair into a bun. I walked to my bed and sat cross-legged on it with my phone.
I scrolled through my Instagram and liked a few posts. In a matter of three to four days, a new year will begin. The year went by so fast, just like any other year.
I let out a sigh and lay back on the bed and stared at the ceiling. I wasn't sleepy. I could not sleep because I was being a bit silly of not talking to Jasper. I was ignoring him.
What is going on with me! One minute I'm a little angry and then the next I feel bad.
I let out a breath and closed my eyes but before I could close them properly, I heard someone knock on my door. I sat up and looked at the time on my phone. It was midnight and nobody in this house bothers to step out of their rooms.
It could be Jessica.
I got up from my bed and walked to the door to answer it. I opened the door and saw Jasper standing there.
"You didn't sleep yet?" He asks.
"Why are you up at this hour?" I ask him, he let out a soft chuckle before looking at me properly.
"Mind if I came in? It's freezing out here." He rubbed both his hands together. I sigh and gestured him to come in. "There are things called sweaters and mittens that could keep you warm." I close the door behind me.

He took a seat on my bed, I stood near the door.
"I'm alright. Why are you standing there?" He asks me. "Come sit here." He pats the space beside him. I slowly walk over and sit beside him.
"Why aren't you asleep?" I ask him, I looked down at my feet.
He sensed him looking at me. "I couldn't sleep knowing that you're mad at me." I turn and look at him.
"I'm not mad at you Jasper."
"You are and I'm sorry for bringing it up but I thought it would be nice." I shook my head.
"Jasper, how could it ever be nice to be back with people who had no choice but to bring me into this planet? They are never going to change." I tell him.
"How sure are you of that? Look, I'm not ignoring whatever you've told me Holly but people do change." He says.
"Jasper, I know them. I could not think of forgiving them that easily." I sigh and say.
"I never said you need to." I frown a little wondering what he was trying to say. "Holly you're never really going to be happy knowing how mad you are with them. Give them a chance and if they mess it up then think of whatever you want. Everybody deserves a second chance." He explains.
"Jasper, I believe in second chances."
"Then give them another chance."
"How? How should I give them another chance when I indirectly gave them chances throughout my life?" I ask.
"By presenting yourself on New Years Day." He looks at me and says, my eyes widen at his thought.
What?
"Present myself? What are you talking about?" I frown and ask.
"Go to California and meet them and show them who you really are. Give them a chance to get to know you. You told me about how your mother wanted you to be there for Christmas." He explains.
"What made you even come up with that?" I got up from the bed and stood to face him with my arms crossed over my chest. "Of all the things that's what you suggest? Me going to California? Sure I will! Only when it snows in Africa." I tell him with the anger that was building up.
"As much as that sounds impossible, at some point with the change in climate it will snow in Africa so eventually you'll have to." He chuckles and says. Well, that sounds a little possible now that he put it that way.
"Are you planning to be in New York for the rest of your life?" He asks me. "There are more countries in this world. I'll settle down in one of them." I reply, looking away from him.
"That's an interesting idea but it really doesn't solve anything." He shook his head.
I let out a sigh and sat down on the floor. My hands were still crossed and I was not looking at him. He didn't say anything after that, maybe he was waiting for me to respond to what he said.
"Jasper, why do you want me to go to California and meet my parents?" I finally ask him. He didn't reply, he looked at me for a minute and then I saw him get up and walk to where I was sitting. He sat down beside me and still he didn't answer.
"Jasper?" I turn and look at him.
"It's a simple thing, Holly. A circuit doesn't work if there is a tiny fault in it. You need to always go back and mend the bond in order to work the circuit." He explains.
"It's always important to fix things. Sometimes the circuit works fine but sometimes it could blow up and cause a fire." He tells me.
"Jasper, what are you trying to tell me?" I ask.
"You tell that you don't care about them but down in your heart you wonder why it was so hard to give you a little love and attention." I look down.
"Holly, a new year is about to start. Start it by trying to give them a chance and over time forgive them." I look at him.
"I'd rather stay here and begin my year with you and everyone here, Jasper." I tell him.
"And you will. At midnight you will be here but you need to be in California. Your mother wanted a different Christmas this year. You had a different Christmas. The least you could this holiday is something nice for someone who is least expecting it." He tells me. "I know what you might tell me. I can't force you but I know that you will understand what I'm trying to say if you just think about it." He looks at me. I could feel tears begin to form in my eyes, I quickly wiped them away with my hand.
"Why are you concerned about me Jasper? I mean you made this whole winter around for me by bringing me here. Was it pity? Why would you even like me when you could someone better than me to like?" I ask, I heard him laugh a little under his breath.
"You think it's pity? No. I wanted to make sure that you do not write a story that would depress the readers. Surely I wouldn't want to read that. The world has so many depressing books, for the holiday everybody expects a fun loving book." He looks at me.
"About your second question I could give you a bunch of cheesy cliche lines but that's not me. I like you for who you are Holly and I wouldn't want to change anything in my past if I was supposed to meet you." He tells me, I wipe the tears from my cheeks.
"You've had some bad times in your past and after getting to know you these days, I feel and know for sure that you deserve a lot more. I'll try and make the days ahead of you be better." I couldn't help but smile.
"Now, we've spoken a lot and it's pretty late." He changes the topic and got up from the floor. I got up and we stood there, looking at each other. "You sleepy?" He asks I shook my head.
"Me neither but we have to sleep." He sighs. "I'll switch the lights off, go to bed, Holly." I nod and I walked to my bed. I got under my blanket and lay down. I snuggled myself and got myself warm. Jasper came and stood beside the bed, he bent down and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Good night, Holly Anne."
"Good night, Jasper." I smile and say. He walked to the door, switched the lights off. I saw him open the door and then I watched him close the door.
I lay there with my eyes open. I usually looked at the ceiling but since it was dark, I saw nothing but blackness.
I thought of all the things Jasper told me. He trying his best to make my life better. After some time, I felt my eyelids get heavy. I let out a small sigh and closed my eyes and tried to get some sleep.
