《Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (Arjuhi Fiction)》Part 20

Arjun walked back into his office and slammed the door behind him. He was so angry he couldn't think straight. Of all the stupid harebrained thinks Arohi had said and done this one took the cake. How dare she make such a major decision about their lives. No discussion, nothing. Just like that, it's over. Then she has the nerve to compare him with Kabir. If he ever met this Kabir he was going to kick his cheating lying ass. He's been moping around waiting for her and she'd been planning to break up with him. Enough was enough, no more of these games. If Arohi can so easily forget about everything they had together then so could he.
Arohi splashed water on her face and then stared at herself in the bathroom mirror. You're doing the right thing she said to herself. Repeating it over again as it repeating it would actually make it true. He's not good for you. He could hurt you. You don't really know him she said to herself. But the little voice in her head kept getting louder and louder saying Arjun would die before he hurt her. Arohi angrily walked out of the bathroom. Her decision was made. It was done now. Walking into her office she avoided looking at Arjun's closed door. The next 6 weeks were going to be very long and difficult. Seeing him at home and at the office everyday was going to tear her apart. But she would be strong and then she'll be back home and then she'll forget all about Arjun Singhania. Just thinking that filled Arohi's eyes with tears. If there's one thing she could be honest atleast to herself about, it was that she wouldn't ever forget Arjun. You didn't forget your first love. But as she wiped her tears she told herself she would get through this and the best way was to throw herself into her work.
Arjun had a similar plan. The next two days he was the first in the office and the last to leave. When he finally did get home Arohi would already be in her room, asleep he presumed. He didn't want to see her. Arohi for her part, spent most of her time on site at the hotel. That was the one thing that was going well in her life. There was a night and day difference in the look of the hotel and walking through it, she felt pride at what they had accomplished.
Training was already in progress for the staff she's hired for the hotel. She wanted top of the line customer service and was willing to pay above market wages to get the best people. At the end of the day Arohi would fall into bed exhausted, but no matter how exhausted she was, thoughts of Arjun would plague her. Thoughts that would make any chances of sleep disappear and make her heart ache for him. Silent tears would slowly soak her pillow as she laid in the dark thinking of him.
Arjun looked up from his desk and saw Arohi for the first time since they're fight and break up. She was talking to his assistant. and she looked beautiful. Some of his anger had dulled replacing it with pain. Pain everytime he thought of her. Which was too often. He stared at her, taking in her long hair which she wore open hanging down her back. He took in her grey knew length pencil skirt that showed off her long toned legs and her sexy little shear sleeveless blue blouse. Then he saw her smile at his assistant and he felt that familiar tug at his heart. She had the most beautiful smile he thought ruefully. Then he caught himself. What the hell was he doing he thought angrily. He forced himself to look away and get back to his work.

Arohi spent the day in the office attending various meetings. She had plans to go to her kathak class tonight. She was hoping that would tire her enough for her to finally sleep tonight. As far as she could tell Arjun had already left for the day. Thank god she wouldn't have to run into him. Walking to the elevator she quickly sent Aria a text checking in on her. As she looked up her heart stopped. The elevator stood open with Arjun inside, looking right at her, while his assistant stood next to him.
Arohi slowed her steps willing the elevator to close. "Arohi maam," his assistant Lily called as she held the door open for her. "Damn!" Arohi thought as she forced herself to walk into the elevator. Giving Lily a nervous smile and a thank you. She avoided looking at Arjun. Thank god Lily was atleast in here with them. Lily looked from Arjun to Arohi and back again. Something was up here. Usually sir couldn't keep his eyes or hands off of Arohi maam. Even though they thought the staff didn't know, everyone knew that they had a thing for eachother. But today he seemed more interested in the elevator panel infront of him and Arohi maam couldn't stop staring at her heals.
The elevator buzzed on the 6th Floor. Arohi looked up. "Bye sir, maam I need to drop something off at Accounts Payable. I'll see you tomorrow." With that Lily was gone. Arohi's heart rate was quickly accelerating. She watched the door close infront of her and then suddenly the elevator lurched and the lights flickered..and Arohi felt herself being thrown. Arjun caught Arohi as she crashed against him. She was so close he could feel her heart beat. He could smell that flowery scent that he knew wasn't any perfume it was all Arohi. Arohi looked at Arjun, into his beautiful eyes and was lost. When the elevator gave another lurch she pressed even closer to him.
Coming to her senses Arohi quickly pulled away. "What was that?" she asked in a panic. "The elevator stopped." Arjun replied back. "What?" "How can that be?" Arohi asked starting to really panic. She started hitting the different floors on the elevator panel willing the elevator to start moving. "Will you stop that!" Arjun said pushing her hands away from the panel. He hit the security button and let security know they were stuck on the 6th floor and to call for help. Arohi backed herself into a corner of the elevator.
This would only happen to her she thought. Arjun looked at Arohi. She looked like she was well on her way to a panic attack. He rolled his eyes and turned away from her. Arohi stared at him, did Arjun just roll his eyes at her she thought angrilly. This was just bloody great Arjun thought to himself. The day already had not been a good one and being trapped in an elevator with Arohi was the icing on the cake. A few days ago Arjun would not have wasted an opportunity to be stuck in an elevator with Arohi. He would have taken full advantage of the situation. But everything was different now. They stood in silence for a couple of minutes. Arohi still in her corner finally broke the silence. "Where are they, shouldn't they be here by now?" Arjun looked at her and said snidely "Unless they're superheroes I don't think they can get to us in 2 minutes." Arohi glared at him. "It's been longer then 2 minutes." she snapped. "Oh sorry 3 minutes." Arjun snapped back.

"I don't care! Move over let me talk to them." Arohi said. Arjun threw up his hands and moved away. She hit the security button and asked what was happening. Security was still trying to get in contact with the elevator company. "What?" At this rate she would be in here all night with Arjun. No, that would not do. "Can't you call the fire department?" she asked security. The guy actually had the nerve to laugh. "Why? it's not like there's a fire" he said still chuckling. He reassured her that someone would be there soon.
She sneaked a look at Arjun who had a smirk on his face. She turned away from him and grabbed her phone. No service! Just great. "Arohi why don't you calm down." he said. "You freaking out this way isn't helping the situation." Arohi gave him yet another glare. Arjun rolled his eyes yet again. "Can you please stop that." she snapped. "What?" "Rolling your eyes at me, it's so irritating." "I'll stop that when you stop glaring at me. That's so irritating." Arohi glared back at him and Arjun rolled his eyes back at her. Arohi looked away, he was so irritating. She was glad she had broken up with him.
Security called back finally to tell them the elevator company was coming but since they were across town and it was rush hour, it would probably be atleast 2 hours before they got to them. "Two hours!" Arohi yelled. "Not acceptable!" she snapped. Arjun cut her off and thanked security. Arohi glared at him, 2 mins, 3 mins, 4 mins went by. It is so hot in here Arohi thought opening the top 2 buttons of her blouse. Arjun whistled some tune behind her. Looking at him, he looked perfectly fine. Actually a little too fine she thought as she bit her bottom lip. He'd taken his suit jacket off and his blue pinstriped shirt stretched over his powerful arms which were folded across his chest. She remembered the feel of those arms around her and it sent a little shiver up her spine. She quickly looked away.
Arjun watched Arohi take off her short jacket and lift her hair off the back of her neck. Waving her hand infront of her face. Arjun's mouth went dry. She looked unbelievably sexy. Arohi glanced at Arjun and saw him staring at her. "What?" she asked. "Nothing, you can continue to strip it has no effect on me." "STRIP?!" Arohi yelled. "I'm not stripping for you Arjun." "If you haven't noticed it's freakin hot in here." "Really? I'm fine." he said nonchalantly. "Yeah I'm sure you are." Arohi replied as she saw a bead of sweat roll down his neck. She looked away remembering how many times she's kissed that neck.
"It must be killing you to be stuck in here with me Arjun" suddenly said sarcastically. Arohi ignored him. "No, seriously since you've figured me out in your little head, you already know that I'm going to hurt you." "Infact in your eyes I'm just like that loser Kabir." "Arjun, I don't want to talk about this anymore." "Why not? Whatelse do we have to do in here, other then stare at eachother's faces, and I don't particularly like your face." he snapped. "LIAR" the little voice in his head said quickly.
"Then don't look at my face if you don't like it." Arohi yelled. "I don't want to see your face either." "As for breaking up, one day you'll thank me, once you realize we weren't right for eachother." "Why one day? I'm going to thank you right now." he snapped. "Through this I've learned that you don't want a real man you want a little boy who is going to let you walk over him, who you can control, who you won't love, who in your mind you will be safe with." "I've also learned what a selfish brat you are." "You only thought about your feelings, what you want." "How this will effect you." "Me, I wasn't even considered. So I'm glad we're not together cause I don't want someone like you." he said.
Arohi stared at him with her mouth open. She didn't have a response. He folded his arms across his chest and glared at her. Arohi looked away. She hadn't just been thinking about herself...or had she. A few minutes went by and Arohi saw that Arjun had started unbuttoning his shirt . "What are you doing?" she asked. "It's hot in here so I'm getting comfortable." "By taking your shirt off?" she pratcially screached. She could not handle a half naked Arjun right now. Her nerves were too raw. "No, I'm just unbuttoning it." "Not that it's any of your business." "And don't act like you've never seen my naked chest before." he snapped. Arohi looked away, ignoring his last comment.
Arjun looked at Arohi, she had taken off her heals and made a fan out of a peice of paper waving it infront of her face. She was flushed and beautfiul. As usual her expressive eyes were telling a story. She had a determined glint in them and then suddenly she started taking off her shirt. "What the hell are you doing?" Arjun asked. Pushing himself away from the elevator wall. "I am about to pass out from this heat." "It's too hot." she said as she slipped the shirt off leaving a tight short camisole that hugged her body. She looked at him and lifted her hair off the back of her neck again.
She's trying to drive me crazy he thought angrily. There is no way she doesn't know how sexy she looks right now. She's doing this on purpose. Arohi gave him a "I dare you to comment look." He slowly looked her up and down. Arohi felt tingly all over as his eyes caressed her body. Then he shrugged and said "nothing I haven't already seen." Arohi's face turned bright red. "How dare you! You are such a loser." she said taking a step towards him and poking him in the chest.
Arjun grabbed her hand. "What Arohi? Don't you remember all the fun times we spent together?" "There was a time when we would have made the most of being stuck in an elevator together." Arjun brought his mouth close to Arohi's ear. "Two hours would have flown with just the two of us alone in a confined space." Arohi closed her eyes. His closeness was driving her crazy. Arjun slipped his other hand around Arohi's hip and pulled her close. His lips just inches from hers. She could feel his breath on her lips. "There was a time that I would have kissed these lips until they were bruised and you would have been begging me for more." Arohi bit her bottom lip and as Arjun moved even closer she felt her eyes close waiting to feel his lips on her. But all she felt was Arjun abruptly letting her go. "But now I feel nothing." he said giving her a cold look.
Arohi felt like she had been slapped. She just stared at him and finally she whispered "Arjun please let's not do this, let's not hurt eachother even more." "We work and live together. Life will get pretty unbearable if we keep fighting this way." "Wouldn't it be better if we just tried to be friends?" she asked pleadingly. Arjun stared at her and then two steps and cornered her against the wall. "I don't want to be your friend." he said harshly staring into her eyes. Arohi's face fell. "Arjun, why are you making this so hard for us?" "Hard?" Arjun said with a harsh laugh. "I'm sorry Arohi that I'm not making breaking my heart easy for you." "I'm sorry I can't just laugh and turn my emotions on and off like you can."
"You ruin a perfectly good relationship on a whim." "Something completely unrelated happens and you make it about yourself." "Selfish little Arohi" he snapped. Arohi's eyes filled with tears. "Don't you dare cry Arohi, don't you dare!" he said in a rough voice. "You did this to us, so you have no right to cry over something you destroyed." Arohi stared at Arjun and saw the anger in his eyes. Arjun finally pulled away from her and turned away. Arohi closed her eyes and tried to stop the tears. Stop it, stop it she told herself. His words just hurt so much but they also spoke volumes about his own pain.
They stood in silence for a long time. Arohi was starting to feel light headed now. It felt like a sauna in the elevator. Security had called and said the elevator maintenance were on route. Arjun watched Arohi as she paced in the tiny elevator, she didn't look good. "Drink this." he said handing her his water bottle. She's already finished her own. Arohi took the bottle and had a long drink. As she handed the bottle back to Arjun she felt herself get dizzy. Arjun caught her just as she was about to fall.
"Sorry." she said trying to push away from him, but feeling herself get dizzy again. "Stop it," Arjun said as he helped her sit down against one of the elevator walls. "Here drink some more water" he ordered. Arohi took another drink. "I didn't have time for lunch today." she said as she closed her eyes and leaned against the wall. "Well that was smart." Arjun remarked sarcastically. Arohi ignored him. "The lack of food and heat is making me so light headed." Arjun looked in his bag. "All I have is a chocolate bar," he said as he handed it too her and ordered her to eat. Arohi thanked him.
"Are you feeling better now?" he asked. "Yes," she nodded "sitting helped." "Good Arjun" said about to stand up. "Can't you please sit?" she asked. "Looking up at you is going to make me dizzy." Arjun paused and then sat down next to her. They stayed quiet until Arohi spoke in a soft voice. "I'm sorry for hurting you Arjun." Arjun didn't respond. They sat side by side for a long time, and then Arjun felt Arohi's head land on his shoulder. He looked over and she was asleep. Only Arohi could go to sleep at a time like this this he thought. What he didn't know was that since their breakup this was the first time she had gotten any sleep. Thoughts of Arjun had stolen her sleep and having him with her had finally restored it. Arjun stared down at her and asked Arohi softly "why are you doing this Arohi?" Then he brushed her hair from her face and let her sleep.
Elevator maintance got them out about an hour later. Arjun nudged Arohi awake and as she was waking up, he got up and grabbed his jacket. Walking out of the elevator without a backwards glance. Arohi looked after him, her heart aching.
At home they saw eachother that night but did not speak. What was there left to talk about? Arohi took a long shower and thought about what Arjun had said. "Did she make a mistake?" she thought miserably.
The next day Arjun as usual left for the office early Arohi came down for breakfast and as she drank her coffee her phone rang. Her project manager had some questions for her and forms that needed both her and Arjun's signatures. She was faxing them to Arohi so her and Arjun could go over them together. Arohi hung up and thought about seeing Arjun again after yesterday. It'll be fine she told herself. This won't be the first time we'll need to discuss business. It's an office atmosphere and we're both adults. It'll be fine.
"Megha, I'm fine with these plans if Arohi is okay with them." Arjun was saying as he heard a knock on his office door. "Come in." he called. Arohi walked in and saw Arjun and Megha standing next to eachother with their heads close together leaning over what looked to be some plans. Their hands were side by side almost touching. Arjun looked up and his eyes instantly grew cold. "Yes Arohi?" he asked. "I needed to go over some things with you regarding the hotel." "What things?" "Just final plans and I need you to sign some documents. " "Fine, let's have a look." Arjun said. Arohi looked at Megha. "Oh, I'll leave you two. I can wait outside." Megha said to Ajrun. "No Megha," Arjun said looking at Arohi. "You stay, this won't take long." Arohi forced the tears back. Please god don't let me cry infront of them she begged. She managed to speak without her voice cracking. Arjun looked over the documents and signed them and then he turned back to Megha. Just like that Arohi had been dismissed. She forced herself to walk, not run back to her office. She shut the door and then let the tears finally come.
You wanted this Arohi she kept saying to herself, then why are you crying. Because she had never imagined it would be this painful to be hated by Arjun. She'd only ever felt his love. She didn't know if you could live with his hate.
