《Burn Archer》Three- Team Lorin

"You didn't tell me that you were his son," I snapped at him.
Carter ran a hand through his hair. "It's not something I like to boast about."
He paused as the elevator hit the 12th floor and turned to me. "This will be your temporary home until we've found you a better one."
As the elevator's door widened, so did my eyes...
A noisy yawn escaped my mouth as I stretched my body on the linen bed sheet which I'd pushed off of myself during the night.
Well, it was still night.
I was dearly wishing that last night and the several nights before were just a big dream and that I was back at my apartment in Adelaide.
It wasn't a dream though. The room that I'd woken up in was enough to remind me that. I remember clear as crystal when Carter had brought me up here last night and I'd ran in, squealing.
The apartment was a massive bedroom with a kitchen and living room on the side. It was a room you'd find in the high rises in New York. I wondered what Sebastion would have thought of all this. Were they even still alive? It was mentally impossible for me to think of that possibility.
Suddenly a voice echoed through the room, banging on every wall. "Rise and shine, darling."
I stumbled out of my head and stared at the ceiling. "Who said that?!"
The voice said, "My name is Mona and I welcome you to City Plaza. Your breakfast has been made and your training clothes await in the bathroom."
She reminded me a lot of someone from back home called Alexa.
The clothes that Mona was referring to were black jeans and a leather jacket. On top of that, the only pairs of shoes that were at the door were boots.
"Definitely not my style," I mumbled, stumbling into the elevator.

As the door reopened, Brendan stood just outside the frame, leaning against the wall. The blue shade on his skin was darker today as were his eyes.
"Looking handsome, smurf," I chuckled, walking out of the elevator.
"Right back at ya, Voldemort."
I smirked at his 'compliment'. "I envy the people that have never met you."
"I'd agree with you- but then we'd both be wrong."
"If that helps you sleep at night, Brandon."
We entered inside another building connecting to the apartment as he added, "You'll be begging for any sleep after today."
"What's that supposed to mean-"
My mouth was sucked of all its breath as I stood in a gym so large that 4 Great Halls from Hogwarts could fit- vertically and horizontally. The floor was covered by all sorts of training grounds- a boxing ring, gym equipment, shooting targets etc.
Two figures were fighting each other on the mats near the far corner of the gymnasium.
"Why are there only two people here?" I asked, glancing around at the emptiness of the rest of the training stations.
"Probably meeting with new initiates," he shrugged.
We made our way to the far end of the room where the two bodies attempted to crush each other using their body weight. The raven-haired boy struck the girl in the rib-cage before she threw a hooking kick back at him. The girl groaned in pain before she snatched him by the neck and flung him over her. He winced at the pain but swung his legs around, knocking the girl over.
The girl yelled in pain as she said, "I see you used the old trick, Carter-"
The raven-haired- Carter- swung himself over her and began throwing punches at her face as she attempted to push him off.
"Oh my god, he's going to kill her. You not going to stop this, Brandon?!" I shrieked watching blood begin to pour out of her mouth.

"She can handle herself," he chuckled. "Besides, the fun's just starting."
The girl snarled as she flung her legs around Carter's neck and pushed him backwards. He cursed colourfully as she struck his stomach continuously. Finally, he somersaulted out of her grasp and hit her with a flying back kick. She stumbled off the mat and hit the floor, spilling some blood from her mouth in the process.
She glanced towards Carter's direction and found him walking towards her as he wiped his mouth of the blood.
"Regardless of what Curses we have, being able to spar, shoot and survive are almost essential,' he stated.
I nodded in response and stared at the other girl who was also making her way towards us. "First thing that I'll teach you is that we're family here. We don't abandon each other on missions and if the situation requires, we improvise."
She walked to Brandon and put her arms around his waist. He smiled at her as he leant down to give her a kiss on the cheek.
"I'm Bexley," she said with a smile and put out a hand that I shook.
"Burn Archer," I offered, flashing a charming smile at her.
Bexley's eyes were the same violet hue as her hair with the beautiful purple having birth from the roots of her hair. She had an athletic build and was wearing a black crop top. To say that she was beautiful would have been a major understatement.
"You guys have met, right?" she asked, gesturing to Carter and Brandon.
"Unfortunately," I responded.
She chuckled. "I think I'm going to like her."
I never had many girls as friends back in Adalaide as the ones I was friends with had backstabbed in some way. Ever since I had tried keeping my distance.
"Where's Trixie?" Carter asked. "I thought she'd be with you, Brandon."
"She went to bring in the other initiate," he replied. "Should be here any minute."
Carter nodded in response and focused his eyes back on me.
"The City of Apex has a special forces unit called The Hunt and as predicted the people involved are called Huntsmen."
He led us to the canteen on the side of the gym where we took our seats and continued, "At 16, a series of tests are conducted for those that are willing to join but only a chosen few. For us, that test was 2 years ago but every year we get a new initiate. Last year it was Trixie but this year-"
"It's me and the other initiate," I finished.
"Exactly. Huntsmen are divided into groups with others that they're compatible with," Bexley explained.
Suddenly a girl's voice interrupted. "Anyone miss me?"
She glanced at Carter whose smile had already reached the ceiling. "Of course not, Trixie," he replied as he hugged her, wrapping his hands around her waist.
Trixie's golden hair was held up in a ponytail but the blonde hair contained streaks of intense blue that heavily contrasted with the violent hue of her eyes. I could definitely see the reason Carter would like, let alone any boy.
Standing awkwardly next to Trixie was a blonde boy with freckles that were scattered across the bridge of his nose. He locked eyes with me, giving me a smile.
I gestured him to come over and as he sat next to me, I was thankful for not being the only one not in a relationship.
Carter's attention returned to us after making out with her for a whole minute. Yuck. "The next few weeks, you will be training to become a Huntsman with each one of us to enhance whatever your Curses are and the art of survival."
Trixie stared us dead in the eye before breaking into a charming smile. "Welcome to Team Lorin.

Entangled Fates Book 1 - Quantum Beginnings
“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” —Eliezer Yudkowsky Hey all, we're moving over to book 2. This content is in a state of transition. The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. AI took off like a rocket, then when it racked up an impressive death toll, it crashed before it could blossom and took most high-tech industries with it. Resistance and fears became deep-set. Two decades after the infamous Rev. 4.6 incidents, humanity hasn’t quit dreaming of the wealth and power that could be at their fingertips. A new generation of mega-corporations rose from the ashes. When one melds a quantum computer to a barely functional mental patient as a PR move, there are those who seek to profit, those who want to destroy it, and Alex. Alex Sage is a typical college student trying to keep up his grades and maybe find a meaningful connection with the fairer sex. Then, an automated semi crashes into his home, killing his family and turning his head into a pin cushion in the process. Alex awakens to find most of his memories gone and an illegal AI hidden in his brain implant. Now the pet project of a tech billionaire and heavily in debt, Alex struggles to stay valuable enough to be kept online. Still grappling with the repercussions of his injuries, and threats from a dangerous anti-augmentation political movement, there are no easy answers and threats loom around every corner. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
