《The Touch of Infection》Chapter 65: Found you

Carisa leaned back on the bed having the gun just laying beside her, Marnik had left well over a few hours ago. Leading the hoard down another street and taking down any animal hiding within it to keep it from finding Carisa.
She couldn't help look out the window in boredom, spotting a few stranded zombies aimlessly walking by. Squinting her eyes she spotted a group of people walking around the area. She didn't recognize them as Ethan's group but they seemed to be cutting straight through the city.
Even trying to get in houses to escape the zombies around, banging doors trying to get them open, only getting the attention of the monsters laying around. Some began to run while others slowly walked towards them. The group hacked and swung at them, taking down the ones that got too close. Finding themselves unable to open that house door they ran to the next and continued to try getting in.
When all of a sudden a blaring alarm she'd heard before rang as loud and close as she'd ever experienced, the zombies knocked out that still had their head slowly getting back on their feet. Her eyes widening at the sight, the memory of when it happened right in front of her vivid in her head.
She gasped and pressed her hand on the window, seeing as the people were #tarting to get overwhelmed by the total amount of zombies around. Her eyes now falling on an alien vehicle rushing through the sight and shooting down the zombies. And a very pissed off Neda coming out of it, a gun in hand as she walked up to the humans. Pointing at them with the gun before signaling to the vehicle.
When they didn't appear to follow orders she grabbed one of them and shoved them in the vehicle, the others that tried to run stopped by two other alaois she didn't recognize from her spot. Carisa slowly slid away from the window. Moving to the gun and hiding in a corner, her eyes able to see both the door and windows from where she stood.

Hearing the vehicle start to move away from the house she felt at ease, all till banging and something alike to barking was at the door. Her heart feeling all the way up in her throats she pointed the gun at the door and waited, taking a deep breath. The animal making a hole at the bottom and peeking its head in.
Just about to pull the trigger she stopped, "H?"
She put the gun down and the dog-like creature walked in, both its heads bobbing side to side when seeing her. She'd never spent nearly enough time with him when back in HQ so she was hesitant to let all her guard down, "Who's a good boy?" She said and almost instantly he wagged his tail around and kneeled to her level.
Carisa rubbed his head and hugged him, "You seem to have missed me." Her head moving back to the door, finding Neda standing there, her eyes wide.
"Hi," Carisa said and stood up, waving her hand slightly.
Neda took steps towards her the scowl on her face slowly turned into a grin, "Carisa." She said cheerfully and pulled her into a hug, "We've been looking everywhere for you. HQ is a mess, there were a few casualties but everything's fine now. Why hadn't you come back? Did you get lost? Were you scared? You're so far from the area even."
"I'm alright, Marnik just went out a minute, he should be back in a while," Carisa said.
Neda smiled and bobbed her head to the side, "Oh no, Amite found him, she's giving him an ear full. So we tracked him down to this location and set H to pick up your scent. Accidentally set off an alarm tho, sorry about that." She apologized and saw the confused face on Carisa, "We engineered that special alarm to reactivate the mind of the infected, it only works if most of the head is intact and still attached to the body tho."

"Why would anyone do that?" Carisa said and huffed pinching her nose, "It's just stupid."
"Yeah well, we used to do it when trying to get rid of you all. It helped take out quite a big amount even, very effective..." she looked down at Carisa seeing the scowl, "But very wrong, so wrong."
Crossing her hands Carisa walked past her, "So where are you headed? With all the people I mean, I saw you shoving them in the vehicle."
"Oh... you saw that..." Neda seemed nervous now, scratching the back of her hand, "Well... we're taking them to a special human base... we can bring a separate vehicle to bring you back to HQ tho. I wouldn't want you getting sicker than you are."
Carisa raised her injured hand, "I don't think getting sicker is a possibility."
"How did that happen?" She questioned and took Carisa's hand, looking under the cloth and inspecting the wound, "Wasn't Marnik protecting you? Maybe I should give him a nagging, like really, this is incompetence."
She shook her head, "He did what he could, we just got separated at a wrong moment... but it's fine, I'm infected anyways."
"About that, the scientist has a high probability cure back at HQ, it's been tested and around 3 out of 10 infected people get cured... the rest well... we know what happens ." Neda wrapped Carisa's hand back and walked to the door, "Come on then, not going to leave you here."
"But what if Marnik come back, he'll kill me if I'm not here." Carisa announced, "Even if he is with Amite if he doesn't know you'll take me he'll be worried sick."
Neda placed her hands on Carisa's shoulders, leaning down, "We worried thinking you both might be hurt, so let him worry."

Amara has been having a rough couple of weeks. Unwittingly committing tax fraud can do that to a person. Now forced to "enjoy" house arrest until her court date, she ends up playing a Virtual Reality Dive Game that she hasn't touched in over three years. Logging in was easy enough, she just had to sit down in her Dive Chair. The complications came after that when her character seemingly broke the game. Now she is a dungeon core of all things! With no way to contact other players or the Game Masters, she has to find a way to get out of the game in time for her court date. She'd rather not go to prison for a long time. Maxwell had decided that he had just wasted the last five months of his life on a path that would never work for him in life. Deciding to just give up on the finals, he loads up the new game he just bought for the exams. He didn't expect to end up trapped inside like all the shows he'd seen in his youth. It didn't help that his character was basically on Hardcore mode being a Dark Elf Village Leader in the middle of a human supremacy kingdom that went in every direction for hundreds of leagues. Without knowing how dying might affect him, he steels himself to grow his village into the new power in the area. Of course, that's easier said than done when a blood-thirsty dungeon appears to be on a warpath with everything in the area.
