《The Touch of Infection》Chapter 32: A Guest

Carisa and Ezhno where pleasantly talking. Even the usual giggle from Carisa to a certain point.

"Why do you call the infected 'zombies'?" Ezhno asked bringing up the word he heard from her repeatedly.

"It's what they are. It's the term we give to something that is dead but has been reanimated." She explained, wondering how the aliens knew so much but hadn't heard the term 'zombie'.

He leaned sideways, "Wait, so this has happened before?"

"No, it's just..." she wondered what to say now, "People wrote books, movies, and everything-"

He cut her off, he was so confused yet intrigued, "Let me process all this... alright so these things running around are zombies to you. And people used to write about them.... humans can predict the FUTURE!"

She shook her head, "No, no, it's just we've got a wide imagination."

He didn't listen to her and kept on, "If you can't predict the future, how come humans wrote about it? See, that doesn't make sense. So you must be able to predict the future."

Carisa smiled mischievous, thinking she could play along and tease him, "Fine, you got me. Humans have always been able to predict the future. We've also been studying the aliens."

He stood up and pointed fingers, "I knew it!"

Seeing how he was overly excited about it she thought it was maybe going a bit far, "I'm joking... I swear I'm joking."

Ezhno was too caught up in his own thoughts to hear her. Neither of them noticing as Amite and Marnik walked inside. Not until he wrapped his arms around Carisa did she notice he was back.

She patted his arm, "Where were you?"

"At HQ... they've given me permission to take you there. We leave in the next hour." He spoke to her happily, not paying attention to Ezhno and his incoherent words.

The thought of knowing she'd be in a place filled with aliens sent a shiver down her spine. She trusted Marnik, she really did, but it didn't mean it didn't put her on edge.

"Are you sure?... can't we just spend the night here... go there another time." She now dreaded the thought of going to a place filled with only aliens or Alaois as they called themselves.

Marnik shook his head, "No, it's best if we leave now." He looked for Amite, spotting her talking with Ezhno, "Amite let's-"

She shushed him and flipped her hand in the air, "Why is Ezhno saying humans know and see all?"

She looked at Carisa for an explanation, making her laugh awkwardly and hide behind Marnik, "I might have made a joke, but I didn't think he'd take it so far."

Amite clicked her tongue at the response, "Let's just leave this place, it's not doing Ezhno any good." She dragged Ezhno behind her as Marnik and Carisa walked slower behind.

She looked down at the ground stopping in place, "Didn't they ask why you're bringing a human? Aren't they suspecting bad things?"

Marnik smiled taking her hand, "It'll be alright, I've got you."

She tried calming her nerves but nothing seemed to work. Her foot tapped against the floor almost rhythmically, she knew she'd be surrounded by creatures that could bite her in half if they wanted and that terrified her. A small dread of hope in her eyes at the thought that they could all be like Amite and Ezhno, but there was doubt in her.

Maybe one word could get her killed, one wrong move. What if even Marnik was pushed away from daring to bring her... or what if he left her with no excuse whatsoever?

Marnik saw the fear in her eyes, "look at me Carisa." He asked of her, squeezing her hand endearingly, "I won't leave you, and they won't hurt you."

Getting in the vehicle they headed straight for HQ. Making it in was without a problem, the issue came when they had to get out of the vehicle. Carisa froze up, holing onto Marnik, her legs shaking and watching Amite open the door. Instantly Carisa could see the aliens standing by the doors, walking around, whatever it was that they where doing stopped. The news of her arrival had spread as quick as wildfire and many wanted to see who the human guest was.

Getting out Marnik stood in front of her, one of the commanders coming out to greet them personally. She stood tall and gave Marnik a stern look, letting him know to step aside. Her view clear, looking at Carisa up and down. Her hands behind her back as she walked past the three and directly to Carisa.

Bending down to Carisa's level, "Hello there. I am Fallyn, a commander of the alaois here. What is your name human?"

"Carisa," she answered shortly, looking up at the woman and noticing the quick difference in clothes and hair color. Unlike Marnik's dark blue hair that seemed the same to Amite and Ezhno. However, Fallyn's was the blackest thing she'd ever seen.

"I look forward to spending time with you, you're a special girl after all." She moved her hands from her back, showing clothes alike to the ones she wore herself. Handing them to Carisa, "Be sure to let me know if anything bothers you. This is a gift."

Taking the clothes, Fallyn walked away after her short conversation. Holding her head high while she left, Carisa felt like she wasn't someone to mess with. Walking over to Marnik she held his hand with one and the clothes in the other.

"Do I really need to wear these?"

Marnik looked at the clothes, seeing they looked normal aside from being alike to the commanders, "It's cold inside, they'll keep you warm."

"Oh..." agreeing to wear them she looked around the place. Amite and Ezhno had been sent away while Fallyn talked with her, "Where do I change?"

Marnik wrapped his other arm around her, some alaois looking at them to his discontent, "You'll have to change inside, I'll get you to the room they assigned us quickly. I don't want you getting lost, so stay close by."

Getting through the doors the guards followed her with their gaze, speaking in their native tongue, so she wouldn't understand. By Marnik hadn't been lying when he said inside was cold. As soon as she'd gone by the door the cold hit her.

Marnik was staring down at a card she hadn't noticed before. It had some scribbles on it she couldn't read and every time he looked at it, he looked back up to see where he was going. He was getting worried when feeling her hand grow cold, wanting to be quick and get her to the room.

He sighed and finally found the door he'd been looking for, Carisa shaking beside him. He pressed his hand against a pad beside the wall, having his hand scanned. Pushing her in as soon as the door slide open he closed it quickly and looked thought the place quickly.

He opened a door, "You can change in here." The room they where giving was a normal size. Having a small living room, a bathroom, and a single bedroom.

She went in closing the door as she did. Looking at the clothes a moment longer before getting them on. They consisted of a shit, pants and she could only understand to be socks. When she opened the door again Marnik was sitting in a chair in the living room. Having his legs crossed as he read through some things in more devices she was yet to understand.

Sitting beside him she leaned and looked at what he was reading. More words she couldn't understand, alike to the ones the card he had earlier. Wondering if he'd ever taught her how to speak or write it. Marnik looked at her, finding the clothes so odd on her. The sweet girl he teased looking unrecognizable with just a change of clothes.

"I don't like the look." He blurted.

Carisa frowned, "Does it look that bad." She hadn't seen herself in a mirror, she'd just have to take his word for it.

"Well-" he didn't get to share his full openion when a voice boomed in the room. Speaking his native tongue, "Amite and Ezhno request access to the room."

Authorizing the entrance Amite was instantly inside, looking at Carisa, "Goodness, put some extra arms and blue skin on you and I'll call you one of us." She grabbed Carisa's hand and spun her around, "My you really do look like us, but... more of a kid given your height."

Carisa's cheeks burned red as Amite said that. Ezhno coming inside with his usual serious expression, "If that was the case you would be no older than six or so."
