《The Touch of Infection》Chapter 13: A tight grip

Making it through the first wave of them he pushed through with her to the very end. Zombies walked past them but soon enough the amount went down. He was looking around, where to hide her?

She, however, was still frozen from having to run away twice. At least they were out of that problem, but it didn't seem like he'd be stopping any time soon. A zombie appearing out of nowhere, standing close enough it could breathe on her. Seeing his hand coming up to push it aside. He wanted to hide her away somehow, placing the jacket he had grabbed around. If they did get close enough to bite them they probably wouldn't make it through the thick fabric.

He couldn't stand the stench of those zombies, he would have blown the place up if he could. Before she knew it he was climbing upstairs, smashing one of the doors with his bare hands and going in. It was an apartment, an empty one at that. He blocked the door and windows before he calmed down.

She looked in the kitchen finding a few water bottles in it, still cold from the fever. She could see from the corner of her eye how he glared at them like it was some monster. She giggles slightly at it before quitting down. Opening it up she drank until she was satisfied, going around the place and looking out the window. It would be dark soon, and zombies were still running around.

Looking down she remembered she was wearing a jacked above the shirt he placed on her. Taking both off and handing them back to him, whispering, "Thank you."

He took them back while his eyes were fixated on her, getting his shirt back on and looking at the jacket. Why did she give this to him, it's not like he could wear it? Wrapping it back around her, and getting the mask on her face rearranged so it wouldn't fall off.

That's right, if it wasn't for the mask she wouldn't be able to walk around the city as she did. Walking around the house she found a small bookstand, reading through them until one caught her attention.

Her eyes sparkling as she read through the books, it was like a child with a new toy. While in his eyes she looked like an unknown treasure, why couldn't he just eat her as he did to the other ones? Was it her smile? Her laugh? Her eyes maybe?

She reacted so differently to any human he'd seen before, she didn't scream, she didn't run... she studied him with her eyes. Trying to figure him out...

EVERYTHING

He couldn't get enough of everything that had to do with her. A part of him still wanting to devour her whole, yet here he was... following after her like a mutt. Answering her every whim, running after her, protecting her... she'd be the end of him.

Walking around the apartment as she read through the book, finding the bed and sitting on it. Drowning all her senses in the story. She could picture the scenes even. Feeling as the bedside sank down beside her, he was sitting there. Looking at the book in her hands, could he understand it? She ignored those thoughts, if that had been the case he would have tried speaking to her a long time ago.

As time passed by she'd couldn't quite determine the words, not to mention here eyes were getting heavy. Leaning back on the bed she curled up to sleep, a bed! How nice they always were. Staring blankly at the ceiling as he took the spot beside her.

Closing her eyes she felt him wrap a hand around hers. Was he going to sleep as well? Did aliens snore like humans maybe? A moonless night only made her feel that much colder. But the pain was going away, slowly but surely.

Waking up the morning after was a pain. The bed was just warm and inviting, but the knocking in the door didn't stop. Just who was knocking... knocking? That wasn't knocking, more like banging.

When she tried getting up she couldn't, his hands where wrapped around her in a tight hold, and his tail had her leg caught. He wasn't letting go any time soon. Shaking him was of no use, he was too heavy to move, and he didn't even notice her movements.

Squirming her way out of his grip she kicked him as hard as she could, seeing as he only moved a few inches away. The zombies banging was only getting louder each second. She grabbed his face and forced open one of his eyes. His answer to that was just to turn around and keep sleeping, did he not hear the banging!

She ran into the kitchen trying to find something to block the door better, dragging a table in front of it. It wouldn't hold out long, she could already see the cracks on the door. Looking at him he was still sleeping, she needed him awake now.

Grabbing one of the water bottles of the day before she walked over to him, pouring it on his head. His eyes snapped open in a glare to her but noticed the situation. She stumbled back seeing the glare there, he closed the door to the room and looked at the window.

Giving a quick look out before grabbing her in his arms and going out through the window. His hear was dripping water, a slight glare still on his face. She couldn't help staring at the hair now, it was so darn blue long hair, she would have thought it was black I'd she wasn't this close.

When they made it to the ground they both panicked, it was crawling with zombies, and her scent was out, in fact, they both smelled the same. Being together all night their scents wherein a mix. Some zombies attacked while others ignored, they seemed confused even.

They didn't have the choice to stop and mask her scent. Running to the town's nearest exit he held onto her as tight as he could. Pushing and killing any zombies, even his tail slammed them aside, 'don't get bitten' was all he thought...
