It was the first day since everyone's arrival that Karl, Aspyn, and Alex had the house to themselves. Being around everyone was amazing, but Karl knew there was a certain topic they couldn't talk about without the threat of someone overhearing.

So when he woke up and realized it was just the three of them, him and Alex bursted into Aspyn's bedroom, startling the girl who had only woken up moments earlier. The crack between her curtains shined linearly, but it was bright enough for Karl to neglect the light switch on the wall.

The brunette practically jumped onto her mattress, his curls slightly bouncing at the contact. Aspyn rose a brow, having a gut feeling swirl in her chest after seeing the look in their eyes.

Alex was the first to speak up, bluntly commencing the conversation with the subject that he and Karl have been desperately wanting to talk about. "Soooo... how's your crush on George going?" He prompted, a combination of mischief and curiosity swirling in his eyes.

Aspyn rolled her eyes, her cheeks beginning to colour. She sighed and shrugged — she knew that the conversation would have come up eventually. "Nothing," she gave them a small smile, as if it was the opposite of what she really wanted to do. And in a way, it was. It wasn't that she wanted to completely ignore them — she acknowledged her feelings, but fear pushed away any thought of pursuing them.

Her friends looked shocked, and Karl rushed to grab her hand while he protested. "Asp, what?" They seemed to have anticipated every answer possible, but not that.

"What do you mean 'nothing'?" Alex added with a puzzled tone. He sat on the bed softly, and less abruptly than Karl did, and placed his hand over her shoulder. His eyebrows were pulled together in a questioning manner, clearly confused on her response.

Aspyn felt conflicted. "Nothing," she repeated, but refrained from adding onto the lack of response.

Karl frowned and gave her hand a squeeze. "Why? I mean— that's fine, I guess, but you.. it took so long for you to even admit that, and you're not going to do anything?"

She paused, her brown eyes dull as if she were accepting defeat. "I-I don't want to risk anything. Whatever we are now, I like it. Admitting everything makes it real, and when it's real... I just don't want to lose him. I can't lose him, Karl."

"Aspyn, honey, you and George are nothing like anything I've seen before. Please don't let it slip past your fingers."

Alex wrapped the girl in a hug as she silently absorbed Karl's words. Her small fingers clutched the fabric of Alex's sweater and he ran his hand down her back in repetitive strokes to comfort her.

When everyone but the Dream Team returned to the house, Niki and Wilbur found themselves in Aspyn's room. They noticed her absence downstairs and went to invite her out, when they noticed how deep in thought she was. "I'm scared," Aspyn admitted to Niki, laying her head on her shoulder. She felt fragile, as if she was shaking even though she was sitting stiff on her bed.

"Why's that?" Niki's voice was soft, as it always was, and she caressed Aspyn's head with her comforting touch. Wilbur sat on Aspyn's bed across from them, with an attentive look. "What happened?"

Aspyn felt slightly pathetic as she responded with, "nothing." At the duo's confused state, she explained further. "I'm scared of what could happen." She revealed quietly, looking down at her fingers whilst she fiddled with them.

Niki shared a look with Wilbur as he decided to speak up. "Live in the moment, Aspyn. Look at everyone, absorb it all, take what makes you happy and clutch it tightly."

"It's okay to be scared," Niki piped up, ensuring that her friend didn't feel like her feelings were invalidated. "It's clear you care a lot, for everything. Right now, care about yourself. If something makes you happy, nothing should get in the way of you and having it. Especially not yourself."

"Be selfish, Asp. You deserve to be happy."

erm... bad news.

so i'm kind of overwhelmed with all my school

stuff right now, so i'm going to pause on

my fast update arc and slow down a bit.

i'll resume regular updates as soon as i can but

until my exam (which is on wednesday), i don't

think i can produce good chapters.

so this is only a short break, less than a week

for sure. but please make sure to take care of

yourselves too! don't overwork yourself

because clearly, it takes a big toll on you.
