《Belle》Chapter 47

"Belle?" I yell, running up the stairs. I hear her whimpering from her bedroom and I run in there.
"James." She cries and I rush to her side, getting on my knees beside the bed. "Ow!"
"I-It's going to be okay, Belle. Just breath." I tell her, grabbing her hand to comfort her.
"I never learned how to breathe, genius. We never went to those stupid breathing classes." I take a breath and look around her room.
"Where's your grandmother?"
"She went to the store." Belle said breathlessly. I bite the inside of my cheek and think.
"Okay, we need to go to the hospital." I finally say. I slide my arms under her body and lift her up off her bed.
For someone eight months pregnant, she wasn't very heavy.
Belle wraps her arms around my neck and I carefully walk down the stairs. She continues to whimper in my ear and I felt my heart ache. I can't stand to see her in so much pain.
I gently place her in the backseat of my car and run to the driver's side. I turn the key and zoom off down the road. Belle's whimpers grew into a full groan for a couple seconds then went quieter.
"God, this hurts so much." Belle cries and I bite my lip.
"I know, baby. It's going to be okay." I whisper, glancing at her in the mirror. Even with bed head and a pained expression on her face, she was still the most beautiful girl I've ever seen.
I pulled into the parking lot of the hospital and picked Belle up once again before entering the building. The person at the front desk was on the phone with someone as I approached.
"How may I help you?" She asked casually, as if I wasn't carrying a heavily pregnant girl in my arms.

"My girlfriend...she's in labor." I answer breathlessly. The lady nodded and picked up the phone again. I stopped paying attention to what she was staying and looked down at Belle.
Her eyes were squeezed shut and her face was slightly red. I felt so bad for her.
"Sir, put her here." A doctor instructed me, making me look up. He was holding the handles of a wheelchair and I did as I was told, placing her gently in the chair.
The doctor turned her around and rushed her into a room. I decided now would be a good time to call Belle's grandmother.
"Hello?" She asked through the phone.
"Nan, it's James." I said breathlessly, my heart racing in my chest.
"James? Aren't you supposed to be in school. Pay attention to class."
"I'm not at school, I'm at the hospital."
"What? Why? Did you get hurt?" She asked worryingly.
"No, but Belle just went into labor. I drove her here and they just put her in a room."
"Oh my gosh, I'll be right there." I nodded, then realized she couldn't see me.
"Alright, hurry." And then I hung up.
~~~
"When will the pain stop?" Belle whined, a couple tears falling down her cheeks. I wipe them away and sigh.
"When the baby gets here, sweetheart." I whisper.
"Ugh! It hurts so much." She takes a breath and turns her head to face me on the bed. "I'm hungry."
I smile at her cuteness and push some hair out of her face. "Alright, what do you want?"
"A McDonald's double cheeseburger with fries. Oh, and I chocolate milkshake." She smiled innocently at me.
"Okay, I'll go get it." I go to stand up, but am quickly pulled down by a force on my arm.
"No, don't go." She pouts and I chuckle.
"I can't get you your McDonald's if I can't leave."
"My grandmother can go get it, I want you to stay." She pouts and I smile.
"Okay, I'll text her." Just as I was about to grab my phone, Belle cries out in pain once again.
She clutches her bump and cries out, grabbing ahold of my hand. I brush her hair out of her face and she scrunches up her face.
"Ow!" She cries and gripps my hand harder. I purse my lips together and sigh, my heart aching.
~~~
"How are you doing?" Belle's grandmother asks, entering the room. Belle gives her a weak smile.
"I'm good, for now." She sighs.
"How much longer?"
"The doctor said any time now." I answered for her.
"They said that hours ago." She whined and I rubbed my thumb over her hand.
"Awe, my poor Bella." Her grandmother said, walking over to the other side of Belle. "Look on the brightside, by the end of the night, you'll have a beautiful baby girl to care for."
Belle gives her another weak smile.
"I can't wait to meet her." Belle said, looking over at me.
"Me too." I whisper, kissing her forehead.
~~~
"I came as soon as I could." Megan said breathlessly, running into the room. She leaned over to take a couple deep breaths before standing up straight again
"We've been expecting you." I say with a smile and nods.
"How are you, Bella? Is it horrible?" Megan asked, walking over to the other side of Belle.
"What do you think?" She snapped, letting out a harsh breath.
"Jeez, you're worse during labor than you are on your period." Megan giggled and I chuckled.
"That's not funny." Belle sighed and ran a hand over her face.
"How much longer until there's a baby?" Megan asks, sitting down in a chair.
"The doctor said any minute now." Belle sighed. "Though that's what she said two hours ago."
"Hang in there, Bella." Megan sympathized, placing a hand on hers.
"Let's talk about something else, distract me from the pain." Belle says, looking at Megan.
Megan's eyes light up and she straightens hers posture with a smile.
"Well, I've got some news."
"Spit it out." I chime in and Megan rolls her eyes.
"I asked Logan out today." Bella sits up slightly in her bed with wide eyes.
"What? No way."
"Yeah, I asked him before I left for the hospital and he said yes." Megan squeals along with Bella and I roll my eyes.
"What gave you the sudden courage?" I ask curiously.
"Well, even though you won the bet, I thought I should still hold on to my end of the bet." Megan answered. "Oh, and here's the $300.
She reached into her purse and grabbed a stack of cash and handed it to me.
"Finally." I joked and Megan stuck her tongue out at me.
"Ow." Belle said, making both Megan and I snap out heads in her direction.
Her face was scrunched up and she was clutching onto her bump. The doctor that's been helping Belle through her pregnancy walked in. She told us she would be checking to see how far along she is and that Megan should leave.
She wished us luck before walking out of the room, closing the door behind her. It was just the three of us.
The doctor did her thing under the blanket while Belle connected to cry out in pain.
"Alright, you seem far enough along. It's time for you to push, Bella."
