drop ship, watching as Monty tried to get a way to communicate with the ark. She wasn't going to lie; she didn't want Monty to succeed, but it wasn't like she could stop him - he was trying to use people's wristbands and she didn't feel like racing around the camp and ripping the damn things off everyone's wrist.
Clarke was wiping Jasper's chest, grimacing as the boy screamed in pain. Raine flinched, the scream making her shudder. Clarke breathed out, "The grounders cauterised the wound, saved his life..."
"Saved his life so they could string him up as live bait." Finn added, walking around to see the boy. "Garden of Eden this ain't."
"This is infected, he could be septic." Clarke told everyone, Raine raising an eyebrow. She didn't know what that meant, but it couldn't be good. Monty stopped working, looking at his friend with a sad frown.
"Any progress on using the wristbands to contact the ark?" Clarke asked desperately as Wells appeared, climbing the ladder. Raine sniffed in distaste; Wells was one of the few people she despised, including Bellamy and Murphy. Monty didn't respond, watching his best friend.
"Monty." Raine called the boy's name, and he blinked several times.
"That would be a firm no." The boy mumbled, and Raine relaxed a bit.
Clarke sighed, stressing, "My mother would know what to do."
"How's he doing?" Wells asked, squatting next to the blonde. Raine rolled her eyes at him; it was blindingly obvious he liked Clarke, and it was even more blindingly obvious that she liked Finn. Couldn't he take a hint?
"How does it look like he's doing, Wells?" Clarke snapped at him in response.
"Hey, I'm just trying to help." Wells defended himself.
"Help? Please, you wouldn't know what help was even if it bit you on the ass." Raine said loudly, Wells turning to face her.
He narrowed his eyes, "And what are you doing exactly?"
Raine shrugged, "Nothing really, but at least I'm not scrounging for attention."
"Enough." Clarke cried, silencing the pair. She breathed deeply, Finn watching the trio silently as Monty fiddled with a broken bracelet. "Alright... you want to help?" she asked Wells, who nodded his head vigorously. "Hold him down."
Wells placed his hands on Jasper's legs, Finn doing the same. Raine knelt next to Jaspers head, placing her hands on his shoulders. Clarke glanced around before picking up a blade and putting it into the fire, the metal turning red.
"I'm not going to like this, am I?" Monty asked, his mouth agape.
No-one responded, and Raine tensed at Clarke touched the knife to Jasper's skin. His head shot upwards, a scream tearing from his lips. Raine held his shoulders down while he bucked and jerked.
"Hold him still! I need to cut away the infected flesh." Clarke instructed, and Monty moved to Jaspers feet, gripping them in his hands. Octavia scurried up the ladder, rushing over to Clarke.
"Stop it, you're killing him!" she cried, trying to stop Clarke.
"She's trying to save his life." Finn told her.
"She can't." Bellamy announced, stepping onto the level. Raine groaned; as if one Blake wasn't enough. Monty glared at Bellamy, and Raine spoke up.
"Back off, Bellamy."
"We didn't drag him through miles of woods just to let him die." Clarke said defiantly.
"The kid's a goner." Bellamy stated simply, and Raine sneered at him.
"Sorry if we don't give up as easily as you." she spat.

"If you can't see that you're deluded." Bellamy continued, "He's making people crazy–"
"Sorry if Jasper's an inconvenience to you," Clarke snapped, "But this isn't the ark. Down here, every life matters."
"Take a look at him." Bellamy persisted, "He's a lost cause."
Clarke glanced at Octavia, who looked dejected. "Octavia, I've spent my entire life watching my mother heal people, if I say there's hope there is hope."
"This isn't about hope, it's about guts. You don't have the guts to make the hard choices, I do. He's been like this for three days. If he's not better by tomorrow, I'll kill him myself." Bellamy declared, walking to the ladder. He glance at Octavia, "Octavia, let's go."
"I'm staying here." She said bravely, and Bellamy clenched his jaw before climbing down the ladder. Raine stood up in fury. Octavia took her place, wiping Jasper's head with a damp cloth. Raine followed Bellamy down the ladder, and out of the drop ship.
"Bellamy! Bellamy!" she screamed, the older boy stopping to look at her. She walked up to him, hissing, "What the hell is wrong with you? You said last night you came down here to protect your sister, yet you say you'll kill her friend is he doesn't get better?"
Bellamy clenched his fists at his sides, responding, "You don't have a sibling, so you don't know what it is like."
He turned to leave, but Raine wrapped a hand around his bicep. He turned to face her, and she sighed deeply before saying, "No, I don't. But if I did, I would never want them to feel sad, or hurt, or alone. Right now, I think we're all feeling at least one of those."
Her voice was soft; a tone Bellamy had never heard her use when she spoke to him. It was always hard or sarcastic. He looked down at her, locking his eyes with hers. "Can't you see? I'm doing this for her. If we're weak down here, we will die. I would die to keep that from happening to her." He tugged his arm out of her grip, but didn't move. Raine stared at him in question, raising an eyebrow. Bellamy breathed, "We need to go hunting; that panther didn't last very long."
"I'll come." Raine said simply, saving Bellamy the embarrassment of having to ask. "But only because you want me to."
She was smirking as she said this, and Bellamy chuckled, shaking his head softly. He nodded towards his tent, "Meet me there in five. We're going hunting."
•••
The forest was thick and green, and Raine struggled to see whatever the hell Bellamy was trying to hunt. They were walking as quietly as they could, until Bellamy held up his hand, signalling for them to stop. Raine crept forwards, her hand wrapped around the knife Bellamy gave her, spotting a boar a few meters ahead.
Bellamy held a finger up to his lips, whispering, "She's mine."
He took a step forwards, holding up the axe and getting ready to throw it. Aiming it at the boar, he was about to let it fly when something snapped behind him. He whirled around, throwing the axe through the air. It sunk into a tree, and the boar took off with a startled squeal.
"Get her!" someone yelled, and a group of teenagers took off after the boar.
Standing next to Bellamy's axe was a young girl, a look of horror clear on her face. Bellamy walked towards her, "Who the hell are you?"

"Charlotte." She whimpered.
"You're lucky he didn't kill you." Raine called, appearing out of the bushes. Charlotte jumped, looking at Raine with wide eyes. Bellamy nodded as he pulled the axe out of the wood, Atom appearing behind him.
"Why aren't you back at camp?" Bellamy demanded.
"W-well, that guy who was dying... I just couldn't listen anymore." Charlotte responded, shrugging.
"That guy is my friend, so watch your mouth." Raine told her harshly, standing next to Bellamy.
"There are grounder's out here, it's too dangerous for a little girl." Atom told her, shaking his head. The only reason Raine recognised him was because she'd seen him hanging from a tree the previous night. For what absurd reason, she didn't know.
"I'm not little." Charlotte jutted her chin out, causing Raine to snicker.
Bellamy looked at the girl, a smile appearing on his face. It made Raine stop and she stared at Bellamy, watching as his smile grew larger. It made her want to smile, too.
"Okay then, but you can't hunt without a weapon." Bellamy spoke, reaching into his pocket. He held out a small blade to Charlotte, who took it tentatively. "Ever killed something before?"
She shook her head silently, looking between Atom and Bellamy. Raine knew exactly how she felt; it was actually quite daunting knowing that she would have to kill something – or someone – eventually.
"Who knows, maybe you're good at it." Bellamy joked, and Raine fought a smile. She had to admit, Bellamy being nice to Charlotte was sweet. If only he was like this and not an asshole ninety-nine percent of the time.
Atom and Bellamy turned around, Bellamy nodding at Raine who followed. Charlotte scurried after them. The group had only been walking for a few moments when Raine noticed everything around her had developed a yellow-ish tinge.
Turning around, her face dropped in horror when she saw a yellow fog descending on them. "Bellamy..." she began, the man turning around to see what she was talking about.
"Run! Run!" he yelled, grabbing her arm and tugging her. They sprinted through the woods, trying to escape the ever advancing yellow fog. "C'mon, there are caves this way!"
Charlotte reached out for Raine, and despite wanting nothing to do with the child, Raine grabbed her hand and pulled her along. Behind her Atom tripped, his eyes wide as he watched the fog encompass him. Raine, Bellamy and Charlotte scrambled up a hill, Bellamy leading them into a small cave. It was then Raine and Bellamy heard Atom cry out in anguish. "Bellamy!"
Bellamy halted, sticking his head out of the cave, and Raine knew he was thinking of going back out. She grabbed his wrist, and he looked at her. She shook her head, "It's too late now. We'll find him after this fog disappears."
They headed into the cave spotting Charlotte curled up on a small ledge with wide eyes. Raine took a seat on the ground, her back resting against the wall. Her staff was biting into her hip, so she removed it and held it up to her face. The wood was still a bit rough in some patches, and she pulled out her knife to continue smoothing it.
"What are you doing?" Bellamy inquired, staring at Raine.
She shrugged, "We don't know how long this fog will last for, so I'm finding a way to pass the time."
Bellamy watched her, and sighed as he sat down next to her. Pulling out his own knife, he gently pulled the staff from her grip, Raine narrowing her eyes. "What are you doing?" she repeated his question, watching as he used his knife to scratch something into the staff.
He didn't respond, only handed the knife back to her. She saw three small lines carved at the top, like a tally. She glanced at him, "What's this?"
He smirked, "The number of times I've saved your life, Mist."
She snorted, "Three? That's a bit rich, don't you think?"
He shrugged, holding out his hand to count of the tallies. "I pulled you out of the pit when we were rescuing Jasper, I protected you from the panther, and I knew where this cave was, didn't I?"
She snorted, "Pulling me close, Bellamy Blake, does not count as saving my life."
He raised an eyebrow, "Well, you didn't exactly resist, did you?"
She pushed his shoulder lightly whilst rolling her eyes. The man laughed lightly, and a comfortable silence settled across the trio. Charlotte had curled up, asleep on the ledge leaving the Raine and Bellamy alone.
"Bellamy?" Raine whispered, and the man looked at her in the dark.
"Yeah?"
She whispered, "You're still an asshole."
And this time, he laughed.
•••
Bellamy shook Raine's shoulder lightly, causing the girl to stir. In her sleep, Raine didn't look half as fierce as she was when she was awake. In fact, with strands falling across her face and her lips slightly parted, she almost looked... cute.
"Mist, let's go." Bellamy shook the girl one last time before she woke, staring at him with hooded eyes.
"What?" she mumbled, rolling over to look at him.
"The fog has cleared; it's time to get back to Jasper."
That woke her up immediately, and she stood up and stretched, a yawn escaping her mouth. Charlotte was already awake, pacing around the cave, thinking about 'slaying her demons'.
"Alright, let's go. We need to find Atom." Raine said firmly, grabbing her staff and sliding it back in her belt. The trio headed towards the entrance of the cave, Raine at the back. Bellamy poked his head out, seeing clear skies.
He turned to look back, "It's all clear."
"Great, let's head back because I am starving." Raine complained, patting her rumbling belly. That panther that she ate two days ago wasn't going to keep her full forever.
"Anybody out here?" Bellamy yelled, his voice echoing. "Jones?"
"We're here!" Jones responded, Bellamy's head snapping to the direction of the call. He took off, jogging through the forest and Raine and Charlotte fought to keep up.
Raine spotted three teenagers emerge; two girls and a boy. Bellamy nodded as he walked up to them, "Lost you in the stew, where'd you go?"
"We made it to a cave down there." Jones responded, gesturing over his shoulder. "What was that?"
"I don't know." Bellamy said simply, Raine stepping forwards.
"Where's Atom?" she asked loudly, raising an eyebrow. Jones shrugged, not having a clue, and Bellamy's eyes widened.
"We need to find him, now." Bellamy instructed, and Raine nodded, pulling her staff out of her belt to hold.
"We came from this way!" Charlotte said, pointing behind her and taking off.
"Charlotte, wait!" Bellamy yelled, but the girl had already bounded off. He sighed deeply, shaking his head. "Alright, you guys–" He was cut off by Charlotte's screams, and without a word he was running towards her, yelling, "Charlotte?"
"Bellamy, wait!" Raine called, chasing after him. Charlotte was standing at the top of a small hill, staring down at Atom. His body was covered in burns, his eyes milky, his chapped lips opening and closing as he gasped desperately for air.
Bellamy reached Charlotte, wrapping an arm around her as he stared down at his friend. Raine appeared next to him, just in time to hear him whisper, "Son of a bitch."
He made his way down the hill, to where Atom lay. Raine stared at the boy in shock; the fog had done this to him. Just this morning, he had been walking around and telling Charlotte that it was dangerous out here. He had been right.
"Atom?" Bellamy spoke as he knelt next to the gasping boy. Atom opened his mouth, but failed to form a coherent sentence. Bellamy leaned closer, "What?"
"K-kill... me." the boy pleaded, his voice shaky. "Kill me..."
Bellamy was still frozen next to Atom when the others got there, Jones' eyes widening. Charlotte walked forward, Raine watching her with narrowed eyes. She didn't like the young girl – hell, she didn't like kids in general. Charlotte stood next to Bellamy, reaching into her pocket to pull out her blade.
Silently, she slipped it into Bellamy's hand, the man glancing back at her with a crestfallen expression. Charlotte whispered, "Don't be afraid."
Bellamy swallowed, glancing at Raine and the others, "Go back to camp. Charlotte, you too." The four teenagers took off but Raine remained rooted firmly to her spot. Bellamy looked at her, "Mist, go back to camp."
She shook her head, "No, Bellamy."
"Please." His voice cracked at the word, and Raine wanted to refuse, but the look on his face silenced her. She stared at him for a few moments, before nodding and walking away.
•••
It was dark when Bellamy returned with Finn, Clarke, Wells and Atom's body. A crowd had gathered around a large fire, but they quickly stood up when they spotted the group entering the camp. Bellamy was carrying the stretcher, and he placed it down, talking briefly to Wells before the boy left.
Octavia erupted from the drop ship, rushing over to Clarke, "It's about time, they were going to kill Jasper! Did you get the medicine?"
"Yeah, but I think we should go inside." Clarke spoke, trying to direct the girl into the ship and away from Atom's body. Octavia refused, shaking her head and holding up her hand. She walked over to find Atom, but Bellamy grabbed her.
"Octavia, just stay here, please." He begged, his sister wriggling in his grip.
"What? Why?"
"Stay back." He spoke, but she shrugged his grip off and stepped around him, her eyes falling on the boy's body. She bent down, pulling the jacket off his face and gasped.
Raine began to make her way over to the younger Blake sibling, to try and console her, but Bellamy spoke up, "There was nothing I could do–"
"Don't." she spat, holding her hand up. Octavia stood up, and Bellamy began to plead.
"O, wait. O." he called, but she pushed past him. A pained look crossed his face, and he sniffed as Murphy walked over. "Did we lose anyone here?"
"None."
"Jasper?"
"Still breathing, barely. I tried to take him out, but your psycho little sister–"
Bellamy latched onto Murphy's jacket, shoving him back roughly. Getting up in his face, he screamed, "My what? My what?"
"Bellamy!" Raine snapped, "Stop it!"
She was ignored as Murphy hissed, "You're little sister."
"Yeah, that's right. My little sister. Got anything else you want to say about her?" Bellamy seethed.
"Bellamy, stop." Raine stepped up, grabbing his arm, but he shoved her away angrily. She fell to the ground, staring up at him with wide eyes. He had just shoved her.
Bellamy blinked a few times, his eyes landing on Raine and they widened slightly, before he gestured to Atom. "Get him out of here." He spoke, turning and walking away, leaving Raine on the ground.
It was Clarke who offered her a hand, but Raine refused and stood up. Clarke grabbed her wrist tightly, "You took off your bracelet?"
Her tone was condescending, and made Raine sneer, "Yes, Clarke. Last time I checked, you weren't my mother. So back the hell off."
Then, Raine turned and walked away. In the opposite direction of Bellamy.
