《A Glitch In The Matrix》42: The Rebels

Rex searched frantically among the wreckage for any sign of Evie's ship. Ahsoka stayed back, knowing that Rex wouldn't be able to find anything since they had already thoroughly combed through the wreckage to find any clone that needed to be buried. After several minutes of Rex searching, the togruta approached him. She gently rested a hand on his shoulder.

"Rex... She's gone", Ahsoka said. Rex whipped around, eyes ablaze. However, when he saw the grief on Ahsoka's face, the anger faded, and he squeezed his eyes shut. Several tears slipped from them.

"I just got her back, Ahsoka", he whispered. "I can't lose her again."

Ahsoka pulled him into a hug. "I know. I'm sorry." Rex returned the hug, sobs wracking his body. He silently cursed for breaking down in front of his commander, but he also knew that she was there for him as a friend, not just as a commanding officer. Especially in this moment, she was just his friend.

Rex pulled away from Ahsoka and returned his gaze to the ship. He closed his eyes, and relished every moment he and Evie spent together on that ship or any like it. All the laughter, all the fun times they had together. Rex remembered it all, and he regretted ever being mad at her for leaving him behind to find her own path. She had grown so much since leaving the army, and he was proud of her. He only wished he could see her grow even more.

Rex opened his eyes, and walked away from the ship, leaving Ahsoka. When he reached the craft they used to get away from the ship, he tossed the tools he was using to find Evie and to bury his fellow clones into it. He looked back at Ahsoka, and the grave markers, and sighed softly. Evie's helmet should be there with them. He closed his eyes, and said a silent goodbye to everything he knew. To his brothers. To Evie.

Several storm troopers surveyed the area, and the crash site, trying to figure out what happened. One storm trooper had wandered off a bit more than he should have, and his eyes widened when he saw a mostly intact fighter jet. It was only missing a wing, but other than that, it was completely undamaged. He rushed over to it, calling the attention of other storm troopers, and of the dark armored man who was nearby.

"Open the hatch", he commanded, his voice thoroughly different than what it was before. His heavy breathing sounded through the frigid air as the troopers struggled to get it open. When they did, however, the black armored man's eyes widened at the sight of the familiar clone's armor.

"Sir, who is that?" one the storm troopers asked. The dark armored man was quiet for a while.

"Bring her to my ship", he growled. "She could be useful in attracting the remaining Jedi."

The storm troopers hurried to get her out of the ship, and into their leader's ship. They knew if they didn't hurry, they would be under the wrath of Darth Vader, the very scary man who happened to be their commander in chief.

The storm troopers carrying the female clone nearly jumped when she groaned softly. They hurried even faster and got her on the ship, where she settled back into her sleep. They stood guard next to her, and waited as the ship took off into the sky, returning to their cruiser.

Evie jolted up, her eyes searching frantically around. "Rex!" she cried, before realizing that he wasn't there. In fact, no one was there. She furrowed her eyes as she recognized the familiar prison cell. Confusion twisted in her stomach as the last thing she remembered popped up in her head.

'How did I get here?' she thought to herself. She walked over to the door, and started pounding on it.

"Rex, if this is your idea of a practical joke, this isn't-" the door opened, and revealed a dark armored man. "funny... who are you? And where's Rex and Ahsoka?"

Evie crossed her arms, glaring at the man. He didn't say anything, merely walked toward her. Cold radiated off of him, and the female clone's eyes widened as she stumbled back.

"You're sith", she whispered. "What are you doing on a republic cruiser?"

"Quiet", the voice sounded. Evie narrowed her eyes.

"Don't tell me what to do", she snapped. "The only people I take orders from are General Skywalker, Commander Tano, and Captain Rex."

"I killed Skywalker", the man said. "Ahsoka and Rex are dead."

Evie's eyes widened, and she stared at the man. "You're lying", she whispered, but she didn't fully believe her statement. "You have to be. I saw them escape. I held off the clones so they could escape! They can't be dead!"

The man in black armor reached behind him, and pulled out a familiar lightsaber. Evie's eyes filled with tears at the sight. "No... she can't... No... I just got them back... I just got him back... they can't be gone..."

She fell to her knees, and hugged her arms to herself. The man knelt in front of her. "Evie", he said softly. "Join me. Together, we can save the others we love."

Evie glared at him. She quicked grabbed Ahsoka's lightsaber out of his hand and used the force to push him into the wall. She darted out the still open door and took out the two clones standing guard. She navigated through the hallways to the hangar, dodging the clones when possible. At other times, she was forced to engage, but she made sure not to hurt them, just knock them out. She was grateful they had left her armor on her, even if they had taken her weapons.

She made it to the hangar, and glowered when she saw that there were no familiar ships nearby. As she scanned through the crates and ships, she spotted one fighter jet that she faintly recognized. She darted toward it, keeping out of sight the best she could. If she was spotted here, it was game over. Luckily, she made it to the ship undetected, and was able to get into it and get it started before anyone noticed. By the time they sounded the alarm, she was already in space and heading to the hyperspace ring. She attached to it, and quickly set the navicomputer to Dagobah. The pale blue light filled her surroundings, and she jumped into hyperspace. She sighed, and was grateful to let her ship take over on the flying for now.

Her eyes shifted down, and she silently grieved. Rex and Ahsoka were gone. She was the only one left after everything they had been through. A couple tears slipped down her cheeks as she grieved for everyone she had lost. All the clones on the ship that had crashed, and now Rex and Ahsoka. Evie grasped the lightsaber she had taken from the armored man. When she got to Dagobah, she was going to bury it, and go without a lightsaber until she could receive another kyber crystal and create a new lightsaber.

The computer beeped, and Evie looked at. She smiled, realizing that they were approaching Dagobah. She didn't know if Yoda would be there, or if he had fallen with Order 66. She sighed softly, and as the ship came out of hyperspace, she took control again. She approached the swamp planet, making it through the upper atmosphere and was greeted by a blanket of fog. She hesitated, but slowly lowered the ship down into the trees. She narrowly landed on a small peninsula. She opened the hatch, and stood. She jumped out of the ship, and started looking around. The forest was eerily silent, but slowly small sounds started coming from it.

Evie slowly ventured into the forest, not sure what she was looking for. She didn't make it very far when a voice sounded to her left.

"Knew you were coming, I did." Evie smiled at the familiar voice, and turned to see the small, green Jedi. She knelt down in front of him.

"Master Yoda", she greeted. Yoda gave her a toothy smile.

"Come, come", he grunted as he started walking away. "Much for you learn, there is."

Evie straightened, and followed him into the forest, to a small little hut. She had to crouch to enter it, but was able to mostly straighten up once inside. Yoda sat in a small chair, and she followed, sitting on the floor nearby.

"Good for you to be here, it is", Yoda said. "Teach you what I just recently learned, I will."

Evie nodded, and listened intently as Yoda spoke of what the force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn taught him. She knew it would take a lot of patience and time to learn what Yoda was teaching her, but she was willing to stay as long as she needed to. It was what Ahsoka and Rex would have wanted.

~~~14 years later~~~
Evie pulled on her knee length gray cloak over her new outfit. She looked down at herself and smiled. Her top half was covered by a long white tunic that reached the middle of her thighs. A belt was wrapped securely around her waist, keeping the tunic in place. Her new lightsaber was attached to the belt. Her legs were covered by tight blue leggings, and she wore black boots that reached the middle of her shin. Her hair had grown much longer, but the brown color was starting to fade into silver.
Evie turned to see Yoda slowly walking up to her. The past fourteen years had been a bit rough on him, and Evie knew he was approaching the end of his life. She only hope he would live long enough to see the Empire fall.
"Taught you everything, I have", Yoda said. "Time for you to carve your own path, it is."
Evie froze, and she started stumbling over her words. "I- wha- Are you telling me it's time for me to leave Dagobah?"
Yoda hummed in affirmation. "Guide you, the force will. Follow it, you must. In yourself, trust, hmm?"
Evie sighed, and nodded. "I understand, Master Yoda. Thank you for letting me stay here thus far."
Yoda didn't say anything, and instead turned towards his little hut. Evie watched until he disappeared inside, before she turned to where she had left her ship. She hurried to it, and sighed when she saw it overgrown. Using the force she pulled the plants away from it. She quickly clambered inside, and started it up, taking off into space.
"Follow my instincts, huh?" Evie closed her eyes, and began to silently meditate inside the ship. Images flashed across her eyes, a planet with grassy plains. An imperial ship with five crew members and a droid. Two of the crew members held a familiar feeling about them... Evie's eyes shot open, and she instantly started working on the navicomputer. She set the coordinates to the planet she saw. It was called Lothal in her computer. She sighed, and let the auto-pilot take over.
Before long, she was dropping out of hyperspace, and had reached a tan and blue planet. There was a blockade around the planet, and Evie hesitated. She took control of the ship again, and carefully navigates past them. She trusted that the force would keep her signal somewhat shielded. She manages to reach the planet with no trouble, and started looking around for anything unusual. She spotted a small clearing with a ship outside it. Her eyes light up, recognizing the ship from her vision. She lands a bit away, and quickly shuts down her ship. She takes off, running toward the clearing. She pauses behind some equipment, and studied the group.
There was a Lasat, three humans, and a twi'lek. One of the humans was a mandalorian. Evie's eyes widened, as she remembered the last time she had encountered a mandalorian. That was Bo-Katan, 14 years ago. Evie's eyes closed, but she didn't let herself grieve for the friends she lost shortly after the Siege of Mandalore.
She approached the group, not bothering to hide. Instantly, several blasters were aimed at her, and she saw that the two remaining humans were holding lightsabers. She raised her hands above her head.
"Easy", she said gently. "I'm not here to hurt you."
"Who are you?" the older male Jedi said.
"I'm a friend", Evie said. "My name is Evie."
"I'm Ezra Bridger", the blue haired Jedi said as he approached her. The brown haired one followed close behind. "This is my master, Kanan Jarrus."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Jedi Kanan and Ezra. Want to introduce me to your friends?"
The twi-lek spoke first. "I'm Hera Syndulla. This is Zeb."
Evie nodded in greeting while the lasat grumbled. "I can introduce myself..."
The mandalorian spoke up. "I'm Sabine Wren."
"Wren..." Evie hummed thoughtfully. "Where have I heard that name before...?"
"You served alongside my mother during the Siege of Mandalore", Sabine said. "My mother's spoken about you."
Evie nodded. "Ursa. She was Bo-Katan's righthand man." Sabine nodded, and Evie turned to the droid, who was chirping at Hera. Evie chuckled at the sass in his tone. "I don't see why you're asking Hera to introduce you, when you can introduce yourself."
The droid chirped excitedly at Evie. "It's nice to meet you, Chopper. Actually, it's nice to meet all of you. Like I said earlier, I'm Evie."
"I'm surprised I never ran into you at the temple", Kanan said. "I got to know a lot of Jedi there, but I never saw you."
"I wasn't trained in the Jedi temple on Coruscant, Kanan. My past is not one to be said lightly, and now is not the time for it."
"Can you at least tell me who trained you?" he asked. Evie sighed, and looked to the ground.
"Her name was Ahsoka Tano", she whispered. "I've been informed that she died when the republic cruiser we were on crashed."
The group shared confused glances. "Whoever told you that was lying", Hera said gently.
Evie looked up sharply. "Why do you say that?"
Ezra was the one who answered her question. "Because she's been the one giving us targets to attack, under the code name of Fulcrum."
The female clone recognized the code name, and her eyes widened. "She's alive... then that means..."
Evie stumbled, a hand on her head as everything she once thought she knew crumbled to pieces. After she regained her balance, she looked at them. "Are you going to be seeing her anytime soon?"
Kanan nodded. "We're meeting up with her once we get off of Lothal. She's currently with the rebel fleet."
Evie nodded. "Take me with you. Please. She... She's one of my closest friends, and... and she probably knows the whereabouts of my... our other friend."
Kanan and Hera shared a glance, before they both looked back at her. "You can come", Kanan said. The green twi'lek added on to what he said.
"But you have to help us out."
"Deal."
