《IMMORTAL LOVE | one》15 - Unwanted
Advertisement
Alana didn't know what to feel or how she should be feeling. She should be frightened. She is meant to be terrified by the idea of it. And yet she found herself felling numb.
Alana had an immortal womb. From the conversation she eavesdropped from between Lylas and his supposed friend, Derak, this immortal womb was what Lylas has been searching for.
She was bombarded with shock after shock. It had barely been moments ago that Karla informed her that along with his wife, Lylas had also lost a child.
She couldn't imagine the pain he went through. No wonder he was so devoid of any emotion other than that of glaring at everyone and everything. It made sense. There was nothing left in this world for him to smile for.
Derak's words rang back, "...Ahh the birthing part. Yes it will be quite sad for the mortal to lose her life for your child... "
So it turns out Lylas was planning to seduce her, so she will give birth to the child he lost? But it was bad news for her because she was going to lose her life for this child?
Alana didn't know what to feel. On one hand, she was happy finally that Lylas needed her, so maybe it meant she was staying. On the other hand, if she was to stay, she wasn't going to live for very long.
Did she want to go through with this? Was she willing to sacrifice her life for his child? How was his child even alive for this long?
***
Mena found her an hour later. Alana was sitting under one of the apricot blossom trees, on the path to the Lylas's garden. She had been trying to understand and take in all she had heard from the conversation she eavesdropped earlier.
There was one thing that struck her curiosity the most. What exactly happened fifteen thousand years ago to have caused Lylas to lose both mother and child?
"Miss, Alana." Mena approached her, her eyes and demeanour filled with concern.
Alana snapped her head upwards in a startled motion and relaxed when she recognised Mena in front of her.
"Mena." She acknowledged.
"Whatever is the matter, Miss? You did not come down for breakfast and just now you look like you just heard bad news."
Alana shook her head, attempting to dismiss the concern. "I'm quite fine, thank you."
"Master is preparing to return you back to the mortal world. He told me to tell you you have at least an hour to say goodbye to everyone."
Alana blanched, freezing. "One hour? Goodbye? So I'm not staying?"
"It's not my decision Miss. As much as I enjoyed your company for these past two weeks, you have to return to your normalcy..."
Something akin to panic punctured through Alana. She bit her lips to hide the anxiety. So lylas was not going to seduce her as he had planned?

"Is he going to wipe my memory?" Alana asked. She didn't know where this feeling that he was going to had come from.
Mena nodded to affirm her question.
Alana sighed and refused to stand up. Mena sat next to her, her hands catching the falling blossoms. She chanted a spell and Alana watched as the petals began dancing with the wind around them. They created many shapes and figures. It was beautiful.
"My mistress taught me how to make flowers dance... I thought I'd show you as a farewell gift."
"It's very beautiful. Thank you, Mena, not just for this but for everything." Alana suddenly felt emotional, she had gotten very close to Mena these last two weeks, well discounting the week she was unconscious, she was going to miss Mena very much.
Well by the looks of it, your are not going to know her after today? She reminded herself and felt even more sad.
"You're most welcome, Miss Alana."
"Just Alana, please, as a last farewell." Alana pleaded, although it was an honour for Mena to have called her so formally this way considering their difference in status and species, Alana wanted to be closer to her.
"Alright...Alana." Mena acceded.
Hearing the informally way Mena addresses her made Alana feel very happy.
"Will you tell me about your mistress? I know I won't remember, but how did she die?"
Mena let out a deep sigh. "Mistres was betrayed by those she thought loved her...she was manipulated into taking her life."
Alana gasped. "S-she took her life?"
Mena nodded, her whole expression solemn. "It's so heartbreaking because she never found out in the end just how much Master Lylas truly loved her."
Alana paused suddenly, feeling a shock-like tremor vibrating throughout her body.
"Wait–Your Mistress and Lylas' wife is the same person!?"
"Of course. Mistress Naala is the only wife of Master Lylas," Mena stated as if this was a matter of fact.
Alana was too frozen in shock to respond. How she couldn't make such a connection before was beyond her. But then again, when Mena informed her about her mistress, Alana had let her imagination run amok. She visioned a story completely different from actual reality.
Now the big puzzle she couldn't solve before was finally in place. She now knew Mena's connection to Lylas was through her mistress, Naala whom also had been Lylas's wife.
Alana itched to ask the fully story of how Naala met Lylas and how their love story panned. Most devastatingly, why this phantom woman killed herself.
Mena had mentioned she had been manipulated into killing herself. Alana couldn't wrap her head around this? How weak could one's mental state be to be prone into manipulation. Not to mention, this woman had also been an immortal. Surely it would have taken great lengths to manipulate a being with such high status into killing herself?

No wonder Lylas was unfeeling to everyone and everything. Alana thought suddenly. His love had ended tragically.
***
Later that day, after Alana went back to eat breakfast with everyone. She watched how Karla attended to Lylas as she sat next to him. Her friend constantly filled his plate and cup, her attention sorely on Lylas and Lylas only. Everyone else were just background matter in Karla's eyes.
Mena and Zenos were also in deep discussion on the other side of the table and from the conversation they were having, it sounded like a matter that occurred long before Alana was even born.
And so watching all this, Alana felt left out. Although, Gigi and Fifi were ever fluttering their wings beside her, Alana felt as if she didn't belong with them at all.
This feeling unsettled her. It left a strong impression of loneliness. For as long as she'd known, loneliness and abandonment was one of Alana's greatest fears.
A panic attack was brewing just from the thought of it. The anxiety sat on her lungs, creating a great pressure that made it difficult for her to breathe. The fact that Lylas was going to wipe out her memory and send her back was further proof of how much she didn't belong in this world of theirs.
Alana snuck out unnoticed. What she wanted most was to see the garden Lylas made for his wife one last time before he wiped out her memory. She was slowly making her way toward that path when...
"Where are you going?"
Alana froze in fright. Her heart rate spiked when she recognised that voice. She turned around slowly to face him.
"I-uh—" Alana hesitated nervously.
There wasn't anything different in his expression for her to be worried that he was suspicious. But then again, Alana wasn't sure if she had been truly still invisible earlier when she eavesdropped.
"—I'm just out here for fresh air."
"Why is there remnants of Gigi and Fifi's invisible pollen on you?"
Bloody hell! Alana laughed nervously, backing a step when he charged toward her.
"Alana, what have you been up to?" He questioned. The look on his face was as if he somehow already knew.
To continue to act clueless would be underlying and so Alana admitted to having eavesdropped his and Derak's conversation earlier.
Lylas stood with an unreadable expression on his face. He gazed at her deeply as if looking for any indication of her fear, however Alana stared back stoically.
Although outside she was unfazed, inside, her heart was throbbing incessantly. Then his eyes trailed downward to her lip that were was in between her teeth. The rush of blood clouded her vision and stained her ears red. From that look alone he educed this reaction from her. Just from the mere fact that he was looking at her lips and she was already tethering at the seams.
Suddenly Lylas sighed as he removed his eyes from her lips back to her eyes. "Good thing after today you won't remember any of this."
"Is it really necessary..." She began but trailed when he moved dangerously closer toward her.
"...t-to wipe out my memory?" She stuttered, caught off guard by his sudden movement.
"It's very necessary. More so now after knowing what you know." His voice was firm.
"Aren't you planning to use me then?"
"Were you worried about this?" He counter asked.
"N-no, I—" I want you to use me. She wanted to add, but considering how resolved he was to get rid of her, Alana stopped herself.
"Alana you will die..."
She nodded. I'd rather die if it meant giving you your happiness.
Alana was shocked by her hearts confession. Earlier she had asked herself whether she was willing to sacrifice her life for him. So it turns out she had already decided even before she left his office. It turns out she was willing to do anything for him.
"...My plan has always been to find a mortal with an immortal womb to give birth to my son." He spoke, holding his red vial pendant. "My son has always been my first priority. Now that I've found you...I'll admit I'm at wits ends. Before I had always thought that whoever that mortal to carry and birth my child, I would not care for her meaningless life. I knew it would be easy to not care. And yet I met you, Alana."
Alana tried to process his words. He spoke aberrantly, so it was difficult to understand exactly what he was trying to convey.
Was he saying that he cared for her and that's why he wasn't going to use her as planned? Or am I overanalysing his words.
"Ly—"
She didn't get to finish as he cut her off by his sudden advance. One quickly flick of his finger on her forehead and she was already motionless, her body entering a deep slumber. Whatever spell he'd used, made her feel lethargic. As she slowly lost consciousness, the words she wanted to say to him slowly drifted off into the oblivion that met her.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
