《Prophesy of the Elven King》Ch. 33 Life After

I threw a giant fireball at the bear before it got close to us. The bear didn't even flinch at the flames. It went straight through it unscorched. Using wind magic, I launched one of Emma knives at it. The knife bounced right off its metallic black fur. So it appears its furs metallic properties makes it both piercing proof and immune to fire.
Fudge! The only way to kill this thing then is to beat it to death literally. I can't even imagine how much force that would take. Once in my last life, I tasted bear meat, and its one of the toughest and densest muscle tissue's any creature has. This monster makes a regular bear look like a small fry by comparison.
As it charged, we moved to make the bear ram trees before reaching us, but the bear's powerful legs made the endeavor pointless. The beast wasn't losing any momentum! The ground shuddered as it got closer and I honestly didn't know what we could do to survive its assault. The bear could fly, but Emma should be faster and maybe if I stay and fight she be able to get away.
I turned to her, "Emma I'll distract it fly away as fast as you can. We both know you can't carry me too quick enough." I could tell Emma wanted to argue, but the bear arrived before she could.
"Hold on I'll be right back," Emma blurted out as she took off like a jet.
My eight-legged foe had made a move to try and snatch her out of the air before she could get away, but I managed to smack it in the nose with the side of one ax. Hitting its snout was a great way to inflict pain on a bear. The downside is that now I was the focus of attention and the steel-bear was enraged. To think I thought blocking the scorpion gators attacks was hard. This bear unleashed a six-armed onslaught of what felt like never ended ocean of strikes.
I heightened my perception to the point where I could have seen hummingbirds wings move in slow motion. Just the level of the strain it was putting on me made my head feel bogged down or heavy. Even in slow motion, the creature left little openings in its attacks for me to dodge. It took both ax's and all my enhanced strength and force to block one hit from it; The result was me being flung several yards thew the air before crashing to the ground.
I didn't know how much longer I could last against this beast. There was no hope; I knew no one that could save me was going to arrive in time. The only comfort I had was that Emma would be safe and that I was going to make this asshat work for his meal. Then I heard a whistle from behind me and then a sonic boom.

I didn't look back because the foe I was fighting didn't give me the luxury of looking away. I saw a gold and green blur blow past me and collide against the beast before me. I replayed the image in my mind and realized Emma had come back. The image of the golden blond haired, green elf zooming past me and smiling at me. She had done a double-fisted punch from high up in the sky. I think they call that the superman punch but I'm not sure. She hit the bear like a wrecking ball, and for a moment the thing was fazed by the impact. In doing so, she had launched herself and the bear into the air. It was now an aerial battle.
Now realizing I was stuck on the ground watching Emma fight an opponent she couldn't possibly beat a sense of panic overcame me. She was in bad shape too. I could she a bone sticking out of one of her arms. What if she dies? I had always assumed that she would stay as a ghost again but having known love maybe she would be fulfilled and leave me forever. There was a feeling similar to butterflies but worse in my belly. It was telling me what I already knew but refused to acknowledge. It was telling me that I'm in love with her and I'd regret it forever if I let her die.
I put so much effort into [Soul Accelerate] that nothing visible moved. It felt like I was on fire, but I was more preoccupied about finding a way to save Emma! She had used most of her trump cards, and The next strike from the bear could be the Grimm reapers scythe. I searched my mind for any potential solutions no matter how impossible.
When I thought something up, I then searched for ways to make it possible. It came down to me having to hit the damned bear with so much power that it not only flings it away but makes it decide were not worth the pain and trouble. Also, I would need to fly to get up there, but I already knew the solution to that. My efficiency with wind magic would allow flight and for me to generate force. The mana supply I had a crazy idea, but I wouldn't know if it would work until I tried. Last, was simply my greatest phobia or what was once my greatest fear. The fact is I was more afraid of losing her.
Once a high school friend of mine who was in the army had told me in a letter about how to overcome my fears. He had said, "That if you fight your fears, then you freeze up but if you accept them and let them flow through you, they will give you strength." A trick they taught soldiers was that if you accept that you are going to die, then there's nothing left to fear. He had taken it a step further and realized its really about accepting yourself and your emotions. One thing I knew about him was that he had honestly been a man of courage. Courage is not being fearless but acting in spite of fear, and he had done that. No one ever forgets the soldier who saved the rest of their unit by jumping on a grenade.

I let my fear flow through me, and my body moved according to my will. I fed my mana to the wind and summoned its torrents. Using [Soul Speak] I called out to all the elementals I could reach, "This is Juran The true elemental I need mana to save the woman I love! Please aid me in my time of need!"
I felt incredible power enter directly into my spell the wind elementals were giving me they're all. Since their magic was already converted into the wind, they could fuse it into mine to boost my power. It had been a last-second crazy idea I had, but it was paying off. Even though only a fragment of a second had passed, I could see some wind elementals manifesting themselves around me. They all had similar appearances to elven females except being made entirely out of wind magic.
Using the small tornado I had formed, I shot myself towards Emma and our Foe. I created a compacted air spiral around my arm. It was technically a small tornado, but its primary purpose was to act as a form of padding for what I was about to do. I appeared before the bear in what would have been almost instantaneous from its perspective and punched it with all the force generated to bring me there that fast. Also, the pressured air compacted around me burst towards it as well adding to the momentum in which it had been thrown. The Bear smashed towards the ground busting through jagged rocks into a ravine. I heard a pitiful yelp from the creature as it limped away after the crash no longer interested in what it had thought was easy prey.
Emma looked at me shocked right before she passed out from blood loss and her adrenaline wearing off. I caught her out of the air in a princess carry. Assessing the damage, I realized it was worse than I thought. The bones in her arm were splintered, and several internal organs were ruptured. The only reason she was still alive was that her dragon heritage had been doing everything it could to save her, it had been keeping the damaged organs functioning long past when they should have been.
With no time to lose I Borrowed a good amount of life force from the land and forest around us. Pulling the life force through my body, I used my mouth to breath it into her. At first, it had been little more than CPR with a bit of magic, but as Emma regained consciousness, it turned into a kiss. A passionate one at that, I had never felt anything like it. It was like I had lived in a world of ice and was feeling a fires warm glow for the first time or like celebrating every holiday simultaneously. I had never felt anything like it before, and it made me ask myself whether we had always been made for each other or if we had made each other fit. Emma opened her eyes, and for a moment we stared at each other. Had her eyes always been so crystal blue? Unable to resist ruining a perfect moment I whispered: "Mmm you taste better than ribs."
She smiled as the wind that kept us afloat made my long silver hair intertwine with hers. Using one hand in a single swift motion to pull her hair away from mine she said, "I think that's the sweetest thing you have ever said to a girl. Which now that I think about it is really sad!"
"Oh, really?" I said as I once again kissed her but this time taking her breath away.
"What was I saying?" Emma joked pretending not to remember.
Still hovering in the air, we finally took notice of the dozens of wind elementals surrounding us. They had been flying around giggling to each other since we first kissed. I had been thinking of making fun at the fact they all appeared to be female and gossiping about romance but then I got a pop-up from the system.
Goddess of Fate says, "You're welcome!"
