《Home | The Originals》Chapter 47: Hope

We were back in the Compound. I was sitting in a chair next to Hayley as she holds her daughter lovingly. I had Angel with me as well as she stares up at me. "Who do you think your daughter will take after?" I asked Hayley without looking at her.
"Hopefully me. The world won't survive another Klaus." She said making us laugh at her joke.
I had finally packed all of my belongings in boxes, so I just have to bring them all to the Compound, but I wanted to be here and sit in the room with Hayley. Elijah and Nik were in the other room not to far from us.
I pull out a test from my back pocket and gave it to Hayley. She stares at it confused before she looks down at it with shock. She stares back at me and was about to make a big scene but I put a finger up to lips telling her to be quiet. I mouthed 'Don't say anything yet' to her and she nodded her head keeping this between us.
I look down at Angel and notice she is reaching out towards Hayley's baby with hers doing the same. We brought our child closer to each other and they grab each other's hands.
"They will grow up to be the best of friends." I said and Hayley nodded her head in agreement.
"They will never stop." We heard Nik say.
"No." Elijah said agreeing with him.
"Nor would I expect the Guerrera wolves to back down. Hayley and the child are wolf royalty, and as such, they are a threat to Francesca's claim to leadership. They will never be safe." Nik said and I looked at Hayley and her baby sadly.
"What was it you said to me earlier, that I've made enemies every day of my miserable life? Well, the worst of them are within three borders, brother. I have brought into the world a weapon they can use against me." Klaus said.

"Then we will arm ourselves. Brother, we've fought every adversary in this town, and we have won, and we'll fight them again, no matter who they are. We'll make this home a fortress." Elijah said.
"I will not have her live her life as a prisoner." Nik said throwing that idea out the window.
"Then we leave here together, all of us." Elijah suggested to him.
"Wherever we go, however far we run, those who seek power and revenge will hunt us, they will hunt her. She has inherited all our enemies with none of our defenses." Nik said.
"So whether we stay or we leave, we condemn her." Elijah said.
Me and Hayley got up to stand in the doorway they was in. "There is a third option." Hayley said putting their attention on her. "I grew up in a war zone. My parents thought they could protect me, but in the end, they were slaughtered, and I spent my childhood alone and unloved." Hayley looks down at her daughter crying to herself. "I made a promise to my baby and to myself... that she would not grow up like I did, that she would grow up safe and loved, and yet here she is in her first day in this world with a grandmother that is bent on sacrificing her and a mother that has to drink the blood of her own baby to survive transitioning into a hybrid, and I'm the one that loves her the most." Hayley said her voice shaking and cracking half way through her rant with tears falling down her face.
Hayley pulls herself together to finish what she needs to say. "I think the only thing to do is send her away while we stay behind and clean up the mess that we've made." Hayley said.

Elijah shakes his head and gets up from his chair. "No. This is insane. You heard Genevieve. So long as she lives, that baby will be hunted."
I turn to face him. "Not if no one knows she is alive." I said and he stares at me.
"What is it that you intend to do, Phoenix?" Elijah asked me.
"Whatever it takes to save our family." I said.
~~~
Klaus and Elijah put up a picture of a baby and placed it on a memorial in the quarter for anyone to see. It was surrounded by many other things that belonged to people that died last night. Everyone has to act like they were mourning for the lost of Klaus and Hayley's baby.
I walked into Nik's room to see him sitting on his bed with his head in his hands. I sit next to him in silence not saying a word so he doesn't get upset.
"We can't be together anymore." I hear him say and I stare at him surprised.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I appreciate you being here for me and the time we have spent with each other, but we can't be together anymore." Nik said more clearly.
"What?" I barely heard myself as I process what he is saying to me.
"I am a man damaged by his demons, and those demons are not dormant. They are hell-bent on killing me and everything I find beautiful..." he said as tears fall down my face, "and you... you are beautiful." He told me as I stare off into space. "Please, please just go."
"Klaus." I said trying to convince him otherwise.
"Go." He said again stopping me from saying anything else.
A sob escaped through my mouth before I quickly went to grab Angel then speed across to my apartment. I broke down against my door once I closed it behind me. I'm alone again.
(I really hate doing this to you guys. I felt bad writing this ending of season 1
I don't feel bad about breaking them up anymore)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Inspired heavily by The Wandering Inn and Beware of the Chicken, as well as cultivation novels in general, this story hopes to take a Westernish approach to the standard Cultivation approach, being more subtle and changing how it approaches the standard tropes of the genre, without abandoning them entirely.
