《Home | The Originals》Chapter 44: Business

I was at the Compound with Hayley sitting around waiting for the brothers to come back with Jackson. Hayley was super worried about him when he didn't return with the stones on time.

"Are you every going to tell me what's going on between you and that Jackson guy?" I asked her.

"There's nothing going on between us." Hayley said and I look at her not believing that bs she just told me. Hayley sighs before continuing. "Fine, me and Jackson are suppose to be married."

"An arranged marriage, huh?" I said and she nodded her head. "I always hated those back in the day. Having women get force into a marriage with a guy they don't love. The amount of times I killed my husband because of that crap." I said and stare off into space thinking about every guy I was force to marry before I killed them.

Before Hayley could comment on it a door was heard being closed followed by someone groaning. Me and Hayley walked to see who came in and was relieved to see a roughed up Jackson being carried by Elijah and Nik trailing behind them. "Thank god you're alive." Hayley said looking at Jackson and then they hugged each other.

Hayley looks back at Elijah and mouth thanks to him and he nodded his head in return.

"I'm fine, too. Thanks for asking." Nik said as he goes to stand by me.

I roll my eyes at his comment. "You're a thousand years old. You'll be fine. Physically." I said with an amused smile on my face.

Nik turns me to face him so he can playfully bite me in the neck making me laugh at his actions.

"What about the stones?" Hayley asked them as her and Jackson sit down on the couch.

"Scattered across the bed of the Mississippi, I imagine." Elijah said as he stands by the windows.

"Marcel is no fool. He knows an empowered werewolf army would mean the end of vampires in New Orleans. The explosion is his way of saying he means to prevent that, for all the good it'll do him." Nik said.

"Well, it did him pretty damn well, didn't it?" Hayley commented.

"This is my fault. I will find a way to fix it." Jackson said as he lift himself up to sit in a better position.

"No, Jack. You're hurt, and no one is blaming you." Hayley said rubbing his back comfortingly.

"I'm blaming you." Nik said. I smacked him hard on the back of his head. "Ow." He said then looked down at me but I smiled innocently at him. "Those stones will be hard to replace. Fortunately, I always have a backup plan." Nik said and he left to go execute that plan.

Me, Elijah, and Hayley left to follow after Klaus our to the open area of the Compound. "You can't seriously mean her. She's a gangster." Hayley said talking about Francesca Correa. I look down to her standing in the center of the Compound along with a group of men behind her.

"I see her more as a means to procuring rare items at short notice." Nik said and walked down the stairs. "Greetings, Ms. Correa. I see you've brought company." Nik greeted her and we all were down here standing behind Nik.

"These are my brothers. I always include them in delicate business matters. Fellas, meet Mr. Mikaleson." Francesca introduces.

"Please, call me Klaus. All my friends do." Nik said as hold his hands together behind his back.

"I don't know if I'd call us friends," she turns around to one of her brothers who held up a briefcase and she opens it, "but if you and Marcel are planning on having a little throw down, I'd prefer my family to be on the same side as the inevitable victor." She holds a small black bag in her hands as she turns back to us.

"Then you have what I asked for." Nik said.

"Not enough for an army at such short notice," Francesca hands the bag to Nik, "but it's a start."

"Strange, I wasn't aware that she was familiar with our plan." Elijah said as he walks to stand side by side with his brother.

"My price for doing business is full disclosure. Your brother complied." She told Elijah.

"And what do you benefit out of this?" I asked her as I take at step closer so she can see me.

"I only want to solidify our allegiance to the ruling class. It's good for business." Francesca said.

"If only everyone in the world can share your mindset." I said. I feel someone staring me down and I turn my head in their direction to see one of Francesca's brother is staring at me with lust in their eyes.

"Sadly they don't. Marcel is being especially vindictive. I'm worried he might come after me or my family just for meeting with you. It might be our best interests if we combine our efforts." Francesca said.

"So be it. The more bodies we have to defend the Compound, the better. Let's get started shall we?" Nik said.

Francesca and her brothers leave the Compound but one brother held back a little to blow a kiss at me before he eventually left. I stare at him confused before joining Nik inside a room. "Francesca gonna have a dead brother on her doorstep." I said and this brought the attention of Nik and Hayley.

"What did he do so quickly, you just met him?" Hayley asked me.

"He kept looking at me with lust in his eyes and before he left he blew me a kiss." I said. I hear this very soft growl from inside the room we were in and I glance at Nik who obviously was not happy but he was trying to hid it. I let a sigh slip through my lips, "I got to head home anyway. Finish packing all my things."

Hayley looks at me confuse. "You're leaving?" She asked me.

"Yeah. I mean, I'll keep the apartment because Davina will be living their, but I'll be gone by tonight hopefully." I said.

Hayley grabbed both my arms to stop me from leaving the Compound. "You can't leave." She said.

It was my turn to be confused. What is she talking about? "And why not?" I asked her.

"Phoenix you're like my best friend. The only person that gets me. And now you just want to leave? New Orleans is your home and you need to fight for it. You'll be leaving me behind and you'll be leaving Klaus here as well. I thought he meant something to you?" Hayley ranted.

I started to laugh at her and she just looks at me confused. "Hayley, I'm not leaving New Orleans, I'm moving to the Compound. Nik asked me to move in with him and I agreed." I said and she visibly calmed down.

"Oh..." Hayley said regretting giving me a whole speech on staying in the city.

"But I love your speech." I said very appreciated that she thinks of me as her best friend.
