《Home | The Originals》Chapter 36: Damage is Done

It's been a month since Rebekah's departure from New Orleans. A month for me to just stay at home and take care of Angel by myself. A month since Nik has been coming to my home and spending every night with me. "You need to go." I told him as Nik kisses me all the way to the front door.
"I could stay for a while or you can come with me." He said as he pushes me against the door.
"I could." I told him and he smiled at me, leaning down to kiss me again but I suddenly avoid his lips. "But you have duties to your throne that you wanted, do you not?" I asked.
Nik groans as he lays his head against my shoulder. "Fine. I will leave you be." He said and pulled me off the door so he can open it. "But I will miss you." He kisses me deeply as a goodbye then closed the door behind himself.
I smiled to myself as I walk back to my room to get ready with a pep to my step. I was feeling like I was on cloud nine. After I was done getting dress, I grab Angel and headed out to the Bayou to see what's been going on with Hayley.
~~~
I walked into the area where all the crescent wolves were living at. There was a crowd huddled over two werewolves that were fighting. I spot Hayley in the crowd watching the two fight and I make my way over to her. "Hey." I greeted and she pulled me into a hug. "Hey."
"So, how is life in the wilderness like?" I asked as I also watch the werewolves fight.
"It's okay. Everyone I met so far has been really great. I'm getting use to their ways, I guess." Hayley said.
Jackson walks over to us and stands a bit close towards Hayley. I raise my eyebrows at that but Hayley gave me a 'I tell you later' look so I shrugged my shoulders.
"Shouldn't you be out there playing fight club with the rest of the frat boys?" Hayley asked Jackson.
"Nah. That's just for pecking order. They already know who's the Alpha." Jackson said and he smiled wide in victory as he made Hayley chuckle. "Hey, you want to go somewhere?" He asked her and she looks at me.
I sigh with a smile on my face. "Just go already. I wasn't planning on staying for long anyway. No offense, Jackson but this play fighting thing you guys do, it's weird." I said making him laugh at me. I sped to my car and left them heading back to my apartment.
~~~
"So why aren't you at the church with the rest of the factions?" I asked Nik. He invited me to stay the night with him at the compound and since I really have nothing better to do I agreed. Luckily no one was here so I stayed naked with a robe around my shoulders.
"Because I have lost interest in being the king of this city. I wanted to at first because I had my family by my side, but now that is ruin and I just want to do me." Nik said as he paints away at the canvas.
I hummed as I got up from the couch and walked behind him. "When did you start painting me?" I asked as I stare at the unfinished canvas that is starting to resemble me then I look in the corner to see more paintings of me.
"When we first met. You could say you're my muse." Nik said and looked over his shoulder to stare at me again before going back to his canvas.

"I met up with Hayley today. I also technically met the crescent pack but I wouldn't really call it meeting them. I came, I watch, then I left." I said.
"Crescent curse is broken then?" He asked and I hummed in confirmation.
"Do you really believe that there will ever be piece in this city, or are we wasting our time?" I asked Nik.
He turned around to answer me but before he could footsteps was heard coming straight to us and we turned our head to see Cami walking in. "I saw the light from the courtyard and took a chance that—" Cami said then stop herself from continuing as she stares at us but more at me because I was basically naked. I covered myself with the robe.
"Oh, I didn't know you guys were messing around." Cami said as she tries to process what is happening between me and Nik.
I smile at her. "I mean, he is my boyfriend. Right?" I asked then looked at Nik with a questioning stare.
"She's right." Nik said as he puts his paint brush away.
"Anyway, I came here to see if you was here." She said looking directly at me.
I looked at her confused. I'm pretty sure the only time me and Cami have talked was at the masquerade chairity ball or when she was trying to persuade me and Nik to not kill Rebekah. Nik left out the room to get a drink.
"It's my uncle. He's—deteriorating. The pills, the meditation, they're not working. His lucidity's shrinking by the day." Cami told me.
I looked at her even more confuse. "What's wrong with Father Kieran?" I asked her.
"He's been hexed. He's going to go crazy if we don't fix him." She said. "A witch did this, a witch can undo it. So, I thought since you're half witch you would be able to remove the hex from him."
"When was this?" I asked.
"At the reopening of St. Anne's church." Cami answered.
My face fell. He's been hexed for that long. If he would have just came to me the day he was hexed I would have been able to fix him. "You're telling me that neither of you came for my help until the very end?" I asked repeating the situation. Cami nodded her head at me. (See I didn't know he was curable until the Fete Des Benedictions party)
Klaus decided to come back into the room were in already knowing what we're talking about. "It won't do any good." Nik said and Cami looked at him confused.
"What is he talking about?" She asked me.
I sighed and said, "If you guys would have came to me earlier with the hex I would have been able to do something to remove it. These hexes, they start with magic, but as they take root, they alter the very chemistry of the brain. I'm sorry, Cami. The damage is done."
Cami stares at me with disbelief in her eyes. "I refuse to accept that." She said angrily then she storms out the compound. (They started calling it the compound now instead of the Abattoir so)
