《Home | The Originals》Chapter 4: Being a Parent 101

"What do you need, Katie?" I asked her as I check my shelves to make sure they were fully stocked and hold onto Angel as she sucks on her pacifier.
"Do you mind if I borrow something? I'm helping a friend out." She asked me with a very obvious fake smile on her face.
I stare at her suspiciously and then nodded my head. She immediately went to grab the wolfsbane. "Last time I checked, all the werewolves were cursed and forced into the bayou. What werewolf friend could she possibly have?" I thought as I watch her exit my store and then it clicked for me. "Hayley." I used my vampire hearing to eavesdrop into their conversation. "Wanna earn some points? Tell Marcel there's a werewolf in the quarter." Katie said.
~~~
I found Hayley after I closed my shop, sitting on the bench about to drink from this cup. "Hayley!" I yelled out stopping her from drinking the poison. "Why are you trying to kill your child?" I asked her.
"I don't think I'll be a good mother. My real one gave me up, so what does that say about me?" She said looking down inside her cup.
I sigh before joining her on the bench. "Just because your mom gave you up doesn't mean it will define who you are as a person. Maybe they didn't want you, maybe they were trying to protect you from their world, we will never know. What I do know is that you are a good person who is caught in a bad situation. You got me to help you if you want." I said pulling her into a side hug and she hugs me back.
We were interrupted by a noise that was nearby. We looked around till me and Hayley turned around to see one of Marcel's vampire standing in front of us with his face all vamped out. "Dumb move, coming into the quarter. You're coming with me, wolf." He said.
"I have had it up to here with vampires telling me what to do!" Hayley said then threw her hot tea mixed with wolfsbane into his face. He screamed in pain holding his face in his hands as two more showed up. Rebekah then speeds behind them and rips both their hearts out. "Now that is no way to treat a pregnant lady and her friend. I do hate bad manners." Rebekah said then throws the heart to the ground.
"Thank you for saving us." I said and she smiled at me. I look around at the two dead bodies and a still breathing vampire. "Welp, we can't let them sit here. It'll be too suspicious. And since my hands are full," I held Angel up more gesturing to her, "I'll just drag the still breathing vampire back to the mansion with my magic." I told the two of them before turning around to walk back to said house.
~~~
I was in my room staring at Angel as she just looks at her surrounding smiling at everything when I felt a presence behind me. I turned around to see Klaus standing there, watching Angel as she puts her foot in her mouth. "Do you think I'll be good?" He asked me breaking the silence.
"To me, no one can be good." I told him as I picked Angel up and sat on the bed. "I believe everyone has a dark side." I said. After a few minutes of silence he walked into my room and sat next to me with our knees touching. "I'm going to tell you the same thing I told Hayley when I found her tonight. Your parents action should not define who you are. If you guys learn from their mistakes then your child will grow up happy." I said

He didn't say anything. I'm assuming he is talking my words to heart. "Can I hold her?" He asked me and I immediately let a smile form on my face then nodded my head. I gently put her in his arms. "Support her head." I told him and he shifted his arms so Angel's head will stay straight. She looks up at Klaus and starts reaching out for him. My eyes grew wide as I stare at my daughter. Klaus puts a finger in her hand and she starts to softly pull on it while he smiles down on her. "Well, this is a first. She usually hates being separated from me. What did you do to my daughter?" I joked. He laughed making Angel coo up at him. She yawns and her eyes start to close.
"Looks like the little princess is tired now" Klaus said and he handed Angel back to me. "See you tomorrow, love." He said. We just stare into each other's eyes not breaking the connection between. I'm not sure what's going on between us and I'm not sure if I like it yet. Klaus breaks eye contact with me and gets up off the bed and walked out my room.

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.

The Downward Spiral
Blood? My wrist was covered in it. It wasn't dried up or reeked of the combination of that black gunk from all those other freaks. It was fresh and warm too. Where was it coming from? I checked my body. My t-shirt was splattered in everyone else's blood but my own. Turning over my hand, my eyes lowered to where Ray was holding onto me. I gasped and released him, covering my mouth to stop from screaming. "Holy shit dude! What happened to your-?!" Tears were forming in his eyes but he looked down and hid his hand from me. "Please d-don't worry about it. Let's just go find a real hospital already." He said while shaking. "I...I don't want to think about it right now O-okay? It's no big deal..It's just...it's a finger..." My mind went blank. I pulled him into a tight hug. I wanted to do nothing much but to cry right now. I got him into this mess. This was all my fault.
