《The Villainess's Great Revenge》63

Angelina shot a glance at Evelina. Evelina's expression was exactly what she expected.
Evelina looked clueless and worried. Seeing her pretend to be innocent and uninvolved, Angelina clenched her jaw.s
It was definitely her!
There's no denying it! This would explain her past odd behavior!
"Oh no! Who could've done this!?" Evelina gasped and glared at the maids. "How could this have happened!? What did you do!?"
All the maids immediately kneeled and begged for forgiveness.
"Please forgive us, eldest miss! We didn't know what happened!" They said together.
"What is going on!?"
They turned their heads and saw the duke and duchess.
"Oh my Lord!" The duchess widened her eyes in shock. Once she caught sight of the ruined gown, she was terrified.
"What in the world happened!?" The duke was furious. If word got out, his reputation would be ruined!
"Mother, father! What will we do!? Sister's debut is tommorow! Angelina doesn't have a dress anymore...but...we can't just cancel everything!" Evelina cried.
"......." Angelina finally realized her trur intention.
Evelina didn't want to cancel her debut party. She wanted Angelina to wear something else.....
Whatever reason she wanted Angelina to wear a different dress, it definitely wasn't good.
The Duchess's gaze went over to the kneeling servants, "who came here before you all!?"
One of the maids answered, "we don't know your grace! It was only the servants that cleaned and inspected the dress that entered this room! And they told us the dress was okay!"
"Enough!" Tired of everything, the duke shouted. He had a long day of work today and just wanted to rest.
"Eve, why don't you give one of your gowns to Angelina for her to borrow."
"Sniff..sniff.....okay father." Evelina wiped away a few of her crocodile tears.
" Good" the duke sighed. Then he left to go back to bed.
Instead of leaving like the duke, the duchess approached Angelina and hugged her to console her.
"It'll be alright, Lina. Sometimes things don't go as planned. I'll investigate this matter tommorow. Don't be too sad."
"Yes mother" Angelina buried her face in the Duchess's chest. She couldn't do anything for now, so she could only act upset.
Angelina returned to her room alone and angry.
She wasn't disappointed, but she was furious.
She opened her window and looked at the moon in silence to calm herself down.
For some reason, she suddenly thought of that handsome man with sapphire eyes.
He said he would always help her if she wanted him to. Can he help her now?

But what can he do? Her debut was tomorrow and she couldn't wait for him to ask someone to design a new dress for her.
Just as she was thinking this, she heard a knock coming behind the door.
Was it Eric? No, he went to bed already.
It certainly isn't Marie.
Angelina hesitantly walked over there and opened the door quietly.
There was no one.
Angelina turned her head to the left and right. There was no one at all.
Then she lowered her head and saw a big black box. Confused and curious, Angelina picked it up with some difficulty and brought it inside her room.
She carefully opened the box and the first thing she saw was a small white card.
[I know you'll do well. I was going to give this to you later, but it appears you need it now. I hope you'll like it. This is my first gift to you, happy birthday, Lilith.]
The card was written by hand, and Angelina reconized the handwriting immediately. Not to mention, no one else calls her Lily.
'hmm...?' Angelina put away the card and took out what was underneath.
Only after she straightened the fabric and spread it on her bed, did she realize what it is.
It was a beautiful gown. But unlike her previous gown, it was more detailed and luxurious.
You couldn't help but be in awe and gasp when you see the full charm of the gown.
It was a black and dark blue gown. There was a few dark blue roses sown into the gown. Making it look even more enchanting.
The fabric was extremely soft and comfortable.
But the gown wasn't the only thing in the box. There was a smaller box underneath where the gown was.
She took it out and her eyes widened.
Inside the smaller box was a pair of chandelier sapphire earings, and a matching sapphire necklace.
'he really planned this beforehand huh...' Angelina chuckled.
**************
Evelina was looking out of her window, her gaze was directed to the bright and big moon.
A creaking noise was heard behind her.
"Did you get it?" Evelina didn't even cast a glance to the person who has just entered.
"Yes miss" Carol spoke calmly. She closed the door quietly.
"Good. Did anyone see you?" Evelina asked once again.
"No miss" Carol said with confidence.
"Mm" Evelina nodded. She turned her head and stared at her personal maid.
"Give it to me" Evelina stretched out her hand.
"Of course. Be careful miss" Carol handed the small bag that was filled with a grinded certain herb with care. Worrying to accidentally spill it.

"Yeah yeah." Evelina took the bag from Carol's hand and walked over to a gown hanged by a wooden hanger.
Then Carol gave her a long glove to cover her arm with. Evelina put on the glove and used her hand to take out a handful of the powder, and smear it on the gown.
The powder was a grinded herb. This certain herb could cause rashes and itching when contacted with skin...
************
The morning of next day, maids and servants were running around, preparing everything for Angelina's debut.
This time Marie wasn't the only one helping Angelina get ready. There were two other maids.
Those two maids included a girl named Serina and Lia.
Angelina sat in front of her vanity table as she heard the maids footsteps as they walked around, preparing jewelery, perfumes, makeup and more.
The smell of sweet perfume and fruit were in the air.
Marie carefully brushed Angelina's hair and styled it in a half ponytail.
"M'lady, your gown is here" Lia just received the gown Evelina sent over.
"......."
"M'lady?" Lia called out to the silent silver haired lady.
Angelina turned to Marie and whispered something to her ear.
Marie widened her eyes and nodded. She went over to the closet and took out a luxurious and breathtaking gown.
Lia was shocked. She has never seen a gown that grand and beautiful before...
"Miss will not be wearing that. Miss has already made her decision to use this instead." Marie went over to help Angelina put on the gown.
"B-but...then..what about lady Evelina's..."
"Lia, I'll have to bother you with returning it to my sister's room" Angelina said calmly and smiling.
"Um...yes m'lady...?" Lia was still confused. However, Serina looked calm and composed. Her calm expression didn't change at all.
****************
All types of nobles from barons to dukes have gathered in the ballroom of the Skyler's side mansion.
The room was filled with the smell of wine and delicious food.
Sounds of people chattering and toasting to the duke were everywhere.
Today was Angelina's 14th birthday and debut. A table was covered with gifts of congratulations for the lady's debut.
"Hehehe...I heard she runs around at night screaming hysterically..." A noble woman whispered to her friends.
"I heard she's disfigured. It is said that theres a huge burn mark from her left eye to her right cheek..."
"Well I heard her appearence frightened a servant so much, that the poor servant fainted..."
"Oh my...is she really that hideous...!?" Another woman exclaimed with disgust.
"Some say that after that accident, her whole body was covered in burns..."
"They say she looks like a walking corpse ....."
Although it was still early, most of the nobles have already arrived. They couldn't wait to see the rumored 'hideous' youngest lady of the Skyler family in person.
"Hmph! How dare they...!" Alice humped. Standing around her were some young ladies. Including lady Arianna and Rienne.
"Lady Rienne...?" Lady Arianna called out to the red haired lady who was looking at a certain direction. Lady Rienne's eyes were fixed on one group.
Her old friend, Rulias was, again surrounding Evelina and drowning her with complements.
Aside from Rulias, there were many other men surrounding Evelina.
"Lady Evelina, you look absolutely beautiful today!" One of the men stated.
"Is that really..? I-i....my sister will definetly be more beautiful than me..." Evelina's expression became shy and bashful.
"Haha! How could that be? Lady Evelina is the most beautiful woman in the empire! That ugly woman can't compare to m'lady's beauty" Rulias said with tenderness in his eyes.
"Uh-uhm..... brother Rulias is praising me too much..." Evelina said hiding her red face behind her fan. At first glance it would just look like she was embarrassed.
"Tch.." Rienne bit her lip with disdain.
"....." Arianna finally realized what exactly Rienne was staring at.
"I can't believe them....she has a fiancee and yet she's acting so shamelessly with those idiotic men...."
"Lady Rienne...careful of your language...someone might hear you...!" One of the noble ladies whispered.
"Hmph! So what!? They can hear me all they like!" Rienne was stubborn and refused to listen to anyone.
"Lady Rienne does have a point. One would think once lady Evelina is engaged, she would refrain herself from interacting to closely with those men..." Lady Arianna agreed.
"Closely interacting? That's outright flirting!" Rienne exclaimed with disgust in her eyes.
Meanwhile the duke and duchess were surrounded by nobles, congratulating them for their daughter's official debut.
At that moment, the large and heavy doors created a loud creak and they were opened.
Everyone turned their heads and stopped speaking. They all knew that 'she' has arrived.
The room turned silent as only the sound of a male servant's voice, announcing the lady's arrival could be heard.
"Lady Angelina Van Skyler, the youngest daughter of the duke has arrived!"
Evelina smiled smugly behind her fan. She was waiting to see her victory. But her victorious smile immediately dropped when the silver haired lady entered the room.
The sight of the lady entering the room immediately took everyone's breath away...

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/

The Other - a (man) called Ted
A figure, large and present through time in ways most would not understand. Seemingly uncaring about all except his own principles, the one we refer to as the Other (for legitimate reasons, lest some accidentally call upon his old name), finds his way through life. Though refusing to claim the title himself, this (immortal)'s projects have begun to leave him behind, awaiting some accident to move him back into the world. - - - - - - Initially intended to be a novella, then a project to keep me sane in busy times IRL, this will be considered the roughest of drafts. Also, IRL may prevent me from regular updates after the backlog is done. Tags with a grain of salt, items may be mentioned briefly in story so far, or in chapters already written but not published. Content warnings just in case. Some perspective switching in the first several chapters. Legitimately though, in the first chapters an explanation is provided for referencing to the MC as 'the Other.'
